  1. Ah... Damn, thats steep. But TBH, i like the idea of the cut out that you placed there. I felt the juxtaposition of the synthetic and natural material was pretty interesting.

Just a reminder about the card holder tho. It'd be nice if the cards still worked without having to remove the card from the slot. Cause it would be good if it caters to those smart cards that taps in and out of the metro and such.

  2. Newest project- the wallet has a layer of stainless steel mesh sandwiched in between the two layers of the shell. This material provides complete RFID protection from scanners. The goal was to be able to carry a normal looking and feeling wallet instead of an aluminum box. The leather itself was tanned for two days (in March, not very effective) and oiled with mink oil.

Damn Cortor.! I had this exact idea for my Final Year Project.! I called it Techno-security.! But i couldn't follow through. Lecturers felt that it was too simple for a FYP.... But damn glad you did it.! You should totally do a Tron-ish inlay with the mesh peeking through dude.!

And also i've got an idea you could try out.! I had an idea for a tote bag with the same concept in mind. Its for the ladies who keeps their purses in their bags cause their jeans pockets are mostly aesthetics. =X

All you need to do is make a tote bag with an area/pocket designated for their purses. I wouldn't suggest doing a bag totally lined with metal mesh because firstly, cost. And also, it tends to get in the way of the handphone's reception. Not to mention, the weight increment.

  3. ^ i dare not say that im proficient in it, but in comparison with a head knife, this makes more sense to me. Cause its two very distinct ways of cutting, pushing vs pulling. Pulling just feels natural to me. I feel like i have more control over the blade.

Whereelse, in comparison to a 30 degree penknife blade... When tackling on curves, you have a lesser tendency to do an "undercut".

  4. Good job Lazybum. Had to rep twice. Haha.!

Is the stitching on the strap ornamental or is it two plys of leather.? It looks like a nice burnish btw.

And whats the oz of the body..? Did you have to wet it to turn it inside out. (recently i made a bag like that out of 6-7 oz and i had to wet it before i could even turn it inside out and it got pretty crumpled.)

  5. Scotch grain Chromexcel! I'm ridiculously excited to play with this stuff.

Stuff looks great dude.! Would love to see an inlay of that...!

itsjustnc - that wallet is amazing. I'd love to see how the weave wears over time - it must be really nice.

Thanks.! Was done on commission. Hope the guy wouldn't mind updating me with some picture few months down the road too.! Kinda psyched.!

Thanks guys! They're being made in Georgia by Scovill, all metal. The lettering will be raised, plated brass to prevent rust, and there won't be a clear coat on the copper so it'll patina all nice unlike the copper rivets a lot of companies sell.

Dude, you might wanna try getting some silica gel and making a simple dry box. Once i had a batch of order in my previous company with 600 tarnished hardwares. And they were needed to be sent out the very next day. Nearly fused with the couch trying to brasso all 600 damn snaps.

That will keep your raw copper and silver pristine till you decided to use it. After all you are buying in bulk. Gonna take you awhile till you exhust your supply and a dry box should help in the long run.

  6. I do use CAD softwares to get lineworks out from time to time, it is great for getting symmetry right for organic designs. But the thing is, it still is essentially the same as using a pencil on a high grammage board. Only more convienant. Because you can easily get a 90 degree cut with the right drawing tools.

Oh, the other advantage is that you can export your CAD file as an EPS file and have them laser cut on acrylics.

  7. ^ Go get Delrin stamps. Its way cheaper than steel ones. (Delrin is a new age plastic that is hard like steel.)

I got mine from Grey Ghost Graphics (Jeff Mosby). It's among the more expensive Delrin Stamp makers, but i decided that since i'm already getting a cheaper deal by using Delrin instead of steel, i'm gonna splurge a little on workmenship.

  8. I've been working on doing my own key hook for some time now, and it's finally sent off to get 3d modeled and cast! I'm doing it in steel (stainless), copper plated. Steel for strength as brass would be ok but not as strong as steel when used to open bottles. Here's the first computer rendering that I've sent off, it's being made in California. Very excited, would love some input as I get moving with the renderings!

Corter, Question tho. Doesn't the small U shape metal piece on the inside of the hook at the top act like a blunt blade and slowly wears the belt loop on your jeans.?

  9. Yea, i would believe the problem lies in the amount of wax used. Cause a little goes a long way. I'm using a 100% pure beeswax chunk for my burnish and i buff the edges off with a cloth. No problems here.

Haha.! Wouldnt know about how it behaves in winter since im from singapore.!
