  1. Hm... what would you suggest for the D-Rings? I wanted to put them at the ends of the bag but I don't think that would've worked because of the zipper. Always looking for suggestions on improvements. Andrew

Well personally, i would have liked it more at the sides too. But hypotetically, lets just say a customer insists on having it at the handles on opposing sides maybe because he/she prefers the ergonomics that way.

This is what you've got now. The "inverted Mac Ds" looks kind off odd IMO. Which is a pity seeing as the bag in general looks really prim and proper. Very old school classic English style bag to me.

This is what i was thinking. Just slip it in along with the handle and rivet them together as per normal. So whilst you save time and materials, it looks less out of place too.

Was talking about it with my girl. And she still found my idea too... Distracting.? So she was thinking of a more subtle version. Basically having the strap and the D ring placed behind the handle. Yet at the same time, above the piping so its easier to hook on the clasp.

And at the same time, when it isn't being used, you could just flip it downwards and tuck it behind the handle. Which i thought was pretty smart. This is coming from a girl who doesn't fancy D rings. Haha.!

  2. Here's a bag I just finished. Lots of mistakes but better than the previous few (even worse) bags I made:

If you could pull off the D rings even more sleekly, it'd be perfect. Great job on the piping and the structure of the bag.! Looks mint.!

  3. Damn guys... MIA-ed for just a week and stuff are pouring in like mad here..!

Dang Hollows - I'm drooling over that bag.

itsjustnc - Here's that wallet after some use. First image is brand new with a light tan and oil, the others are after about 6 months of daily use.

Thanks for the effort dude.! You've given me a hell lot to think about. Am using 4-5 oz now but am considering to switch over to 3-4 oz. Torn between shaving off a few mm or the suppleness...

Hollows, ive thought about that before too. You could get a piece of steel and drill a hole, and then use a rapid rivet setter to peen with. I share a shop with a couple metal fab dudes, i could see if they have some scrap and see how it works out. Ill post an update when i run into them. Would anyone else be interested?

Sounds good.! Would love to hear some updates.!

Here are some Wheat pennies I collected while being a cashier in a local store. Not worth much on their own but i think they'll make unique conchos... i domed them at school in my sculpture class...going to solder them in a few days.

Damn...! Always wanted to get in on some concho making but shipping that block of steel is gonna suck.

hey guys. here is a reproduction style wallet. It is based of a WWII discharge paper holder. When guys did their time in the service they were honorably discharged some men must have got these leather holders. Long story short I shrunk the scale of the wallet a little to make for every day use. This wallet could be unisex...possible better for women.

I hope you dont mind me asking but is the shell on this wallet 3-4 oz.? Cause it looks like its ageing well.

  7. I've used 3/4 for a long wallet for a friend of mind. He's had it for a few months, I'll try to get a photo.

Just finished these 2 slim bilfolds. Chromexel outside, veg tan inside. The same friend who I made the above mentioned long wallet wanted a slim billfold for his father in law, so I knocked out 2 - one for myself.

    Friday_and_River_Classic_Slim_Bilfold_Chromexel.jpg

    Thanks man. Appreciate it.!

  8. To anyone making wallets. Are you splitting your own leather down to 3-4oz or buying it at that size? Almost done a learning batch on some real low grade 2-3oz but I seldomly come across anything high grade in that range.

You should buy if you know what you're looking for. Often manual splitters dont yeild that good results.

Yea, I know what you mean, its hard to find leather that thin with good tannage. Maybe they find it a waste to split it that much.
