  5. can anyone comment on the quality of calf leather used by Tricker's?

I have two pair's of Alden boots that seem very prone to cuts (Alden Indy and kiddskin cap toe boots); Not sure what I seem to be doing wrong but both pair's have sustained some (although small) nasty cuts. I wonder if this is a problem with the calf leather used by Alden or a general weak point of this leather. For example my Alden Roy (CXL leather) and Red Wings 875 just get scuffed so the leather seems a lot more robust. I'm eyeing a pair of espresso calf burford Trickers boots but worry they might end up same as my Alden calf boots

    Slab,

i hear you, on your comments about Aldens Calf being just more prow to getting scuffed up. Yes, i felt a very same way, and to be honest for my shoe type selection on Aldens, i don't really want that sensitivity in my boot personally, so i went ahead and sold off most of my Calf pairs, and have avoided purchasing any more. I must say that Aldens have been some of the most comfortable pairs of shoes i have owned, and currently I still have two pairs of Cordovan and one Chromexel, they are fine.

But onto the other side of the pond, Im perfectly happy with my two pairs of MTO Trickers (from the Shoehealer) that i have worn now, and i can say that the English calf leather seems to scruff up but polish down much nicer then an Alden calf, in my opinion. some will disagree. and allot has to be said about your lifestyle, how you wear and treat your goods.

Now i'm not saying that Trickers are going to be bulletproof in any way.... and we have all seen two-week-old trashed boots (regardless of brand) on this forum, from those Users who like that kind of hyper-trashed-look is ascetically pleasing.

I don't and so i do prefer my English made shoes over Aldens for many reasons, although my only problem with them in the beginning of appreciation of them was getting into understanding how different English Lasts are from American lasts.

Im sure we can agree that users on these boards (SuFu and Styleforum) have gone about with their mojo and shared info of Alden sizing in combination lasts, and over the years i think have provided a wealth of shared real life knowledge helping many with finding a good way into a Barrie or Trubalance and other more obscure last.

But stepping into English shoes and boots from an Alden specific experience and reference will def strike your foot differently, so just be prepared to know that, even when you are sized correctly, they will def have a different fit to them. It will either work for your foot, or you will be put off unfortunately.

i would highly suggest you head over to the Trickers thread on SF for a great resource.

I had a good conversation with an Englishmen living here in NY a few weeks ago who grew up wearing only UK produced; Trickers, Doc Martens, Royals, C&J, ect... and once he became into his early 30's he switched over to wearing US shoe companies; Red Wing, Aldens, Whites, ect..

We both shared our mutual interest, allure and somewhat simalar experience of crossing over into each others national shoe brands. An Englishmen obsessed with American shoes, and myself being a NY'er really into English shoes....

to try to sum up our conversation, what we came down to, was that Shoemarkers, have lasts built for a overall average foot type based off of cultural demographics and social fittings in their marketing, and add when in time those last were created.

sometimes it works, and other times it just never will.

Genetics give us different structures to the types of traits we posses,

our feet are different for many reason, but heredity is a main part of it.

so my opinion is to hopefully be able to try on a pair, to get a good fit first, and then explore what last might serve your foot best from English or any other shoe brand before burning throughout time and money..

i'm a fan of having a lil' "Uptown and Downtown" in my boot rotation.

    for those into English boots...

who says these English ladies wont age beautifully? :P

here is a brief simple side-by-side of my:

    - MTO Tricker Herman cap-toes (left) (about a year old) Thanks again Shoehealer!

    - Dr. Marten MiE 1460 (right) (about 6 months)

I personally like to have boots for both work and play...

  7. ok, i need some advice please,

i got a new Samurai S0553XX denim jacket, and have been wearing it pretty hard for daily for three weeks straight here in the early summer weather of NYC.

im a guy that breaks a sweat pretty easy, and the jacket has a bit of underarm funk going on already that i and the wife find not attractive.

    without washing,

what would be the best advice to air the funk out?

from advice, i tried throwing it in the freezer for an few hours, but it didn't seem to get it out?

    thanks in advance..

  8. Hi All,

Looking for some assistance in my hunt for slim fitting leather A2 jacket in Japan.

I will be in japan for 9 days travelling between tokyo, kyoto and hiroshima and hoping to finally buy my first A2.

I feel in love with the a-2 ever since brand Visvim released their version of it in the form of 'elmendorf' (link to fit pic below)

    http://www.musinsa.com/files/_old/ol...69a6861615.jpg

    my requirements are:

    1. slim/slender fit (no excess leather material above waist ribbing)

    2. colours preferred are black, burgundy, maybe some browns tones.

    3. hand warmer side pockets preferred but not necessary (as shown in picture)

I am 175cm tall (5ft9). I'm not completely skinny but more lean/athletic with a 38/40 chest. most of my current Jackets measure 21" across the chest pit to pit. Jean size is 31"

I have searched the threads and recommendations have been Toys Mccoy, real mccoy, rainbow country & buzz rickson. I am assuming all these are japanese manufactures and as such, I assume they tailor the jackets to local clientele. I would purchase the visvim A2 but unfortunately the produce only a handful every winter, available only in their japan stores and they sell out instantly. Therefore my questions are:

    1. Assuming budget/price is a non issue, which japanese repo maker offer the slimmest designs?

    2. Which japanese company offer best quality?

    3. Are there other brands worth considering which I may have missed out? e.g non-repo makers such as fashion brands?

    4. I can find store locations & stockists based on the responses above, but could anyone recommend any good 2nd hand/vintage

stores that stock these jackets? Whilst price is a non-issue, i'll never pass on a bargain smile.png

    5. Are there any non-japanese manufactures that offer a slim A-2? I have considered eastman slender a2 jacket, but unfortunately it is available in 1 type of leather & colour only. I have asked eastman if they would consider making the jacket for me a different leather & colour but they were not willing to do so.

Looking forward to your feedback and thanks in advance for the help.

    hello RBN,

i have done the same quest as you.. :)

and I am much smaller and slimmer frame then you,

    5'4" and 125lbs

    34-36 chest

I have owned the Visvim Elmendorf horsehide jacket in smallest size, and it was by far the slimmest most modern fitting in any of the japanese A-2 off the rack that i tried on in my quest a few years ago in Tokyo. It was so beautiful, and made with so much love... i wore it hard for two years but i sold it this year because the arm and back length were just about 2 inches too long still for my taste...

it was really hard to part with..

I'm now rocking a super slim Real McCoys Buco j-21 horsehide in 34, it is all that..

I really obsess over the japanese brands, because of their craft, and my size needs for ultra slim fits.

Buzz and Real McCoys are fantastic at making repro's, but they go for a more traditional old fashioned boxier cut,

and I think is not what your gonna be as happy with.

you should still head to the McCoys shop and try them on, it might work for your frame.

also The William Gibson x Buzz Rickson stuff sometimes is cut with a slimmer frame, as in their Black MA-1 model.

that might be worth searching out as well, but is hard, and japan is very seasonal about their stock, so hope your trip in during fall/winter for best chance of leather jacket options.

I would suggest, go to the Visvim shop in the first city you arrive in Japan, day 1, and talk with them about finding you any available stock in their jackets for this season, and see if they can lock one down for you.

they can then have them shipped between city stores for you, and you might just get lucky to nab one,

but be prepared to pay premium price point.

if not, then i would suggest join the long list of smart folks that get accustom made Aero jacket made to your measurements.

wishing you best of luck with your hunt..
