All these great engineer's boots are making me want a pair! :o

Do you find them as comfortable as lace-up boots? I always worried that there would be too much slippage...

  2. An enterprising farmer had a cools display to attract potential pumpkin buyers!

I was more interested in whether the mannequins clothes were vintage, but no luck!

We spent another day climbing. It was only a couple of pitches, but fun nonetheless!

Riff - this one is for you: we found a hawk watching area. Sure wish I had a big telephoto lens *- they were still awesome to watch.

All in all, a super relaxing weekend. A few more images to leave you with the sights of fall! :)

  3. Obbi, you are multiple-talented! Love that tool pouch! :)

So my long weekend update - we did indeed get up to our friends cottage, and the timing couldn't have been better! The fall foliage is in full bloom, and that lovely crisp autumn smell is in the air. I tried to capture the spectacle but my photo skills don't do it justice!

We spent the first day just lazing about. The only bad part about fall is all the wasps! *I got a couple of stings on the arm, which wasn't too bad. But then one of the little suckers got me on the back of the neck - and that HURT! I did the whole running around, flailing my arms wildly, and screaming like…. *Well, like a girl! :P

Thankfully, no one was cruel enough to take photos! *I got quite the swelling - I'm just happy that I'm in no way sensitive to the stings!

After that little episode, we decided to venture a little further afield & explore.

  5. Robbie, those photos of yours are lovely! The portrait has this vintage feel because of the tones. And that sunset - wow! *Must have been quite a rainstorm - it has that somewhat eerie lighting that usually precedes a real humdinger! :)

  6. ^Nice Vibergs Mike!

Hi everyone, as promised, a boot update…

I got these Duluth Trading "contractor" boots after seeing Ranon's pair! Really nice value, made in the US, and incredibly comfortable!

    oJrlr.jpg

    1SNes.jpg

They have some very nice details, like the welts

    Vtlxv.jpg

And what looks like pigskin around the top of the boot

    oIBJn.jpg

They come fitted with a cushy, removable insole, brass hooks/eyes, and a Vibram Christy sole.

I don't have Red Wings, so I can't compare, but I would certainly recommend these!

I was going to post my blunnies as well, but then had a change of heart when I realized that they are truly, incredibly.... Ugly! :P

  7. Almostnice, your quips always crack me up!! Looking very corporate Dkatz - good luck!!!

This thread always delivers! From insane jeans to fantastic photos, to rolling on the floor humour!!

Sorry for the lack of updates - I've had a good week of wearing my RxC, and I'm loving every minute of it!

I spent the weekend doing work (that "40 hour" wrk week is such a joke) and gardening, and while I was outside, I took a few snaps of the Roys! Bear with me - I know this is all old hat to you, but it's new & exciting for me!

This next picture reminds me that I should empty my pockets one day & show you what I carry with me! Here is my much-loved Emerson folder - which I purchased last year after spending waaaay too much time on the EDC thread! :D Thanks Branespode!

My gardening boots - (ugly) blunnies! The Relativity has such a sleek & elegant pair, not adjectives that can be applied to mine unfortunately! I promised Mikecch that I would update his shoe thread, but I think I'll leave these guys out! :P

My "gardening" work consisted of damage control…. I present exhibit A & exhibit B:

These lovely additions to my backyard were created by my neighbour's puppy, who manages to dig under the fence that separates us, regardless of how we shore it up! He is a SUPERDIGGER!

But on the bright side, he is unbearably cute, and very attached to me - which is lovely, because we can't have a dog just yet, what with all the traveling & long work hours.

Look at this photo Roy6 - would you forgive him too, if he violated one of your gardens?!?!

In other news, my family & I are hoping to head up to our friends' cottage for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada. The leaves are already turning here in Ottawa, so I'm hoping that I can come back to you with some fabulous autumn photos (and RxC adventures of course)!

  8. Eltopo - you & Mike look great! The photos are out off this world! :)

Rnrswitch - you really did a wonderful job on the collar! Did your jacket shrink a lot? My finger has been hovering over the "buy" button, but I'm torn between the S & XS...

Shubha - thanks for posting your ducks - superb!

  9. Thanks for all the suggestions! Grooveholmes, those utility pants do look good - I really like the sepia ones!

Im pretty sure I could find the N&F locally - if nothing else, I could try any weird guy model on to see if it works for me. After a few ( ok, many!) Internet- purchasing sizing disasters, I've become leery of buying before trying!

  10. Mr Black, if they were smaller you would be hearing from me :)

Shubha, let's see your ducks!! I'm in the market for a pair, but my wallet cant bear some of those prices! I tried on some carhartts at the local work store, but even in the right size it looked like I was borrowing my dad's pants :P

    Need something slimmer, sigh.

  11. Echoing the others riff, they look great!

Dkatz thanks for posting! I've been trying to find a slim pair that won't break the bank and these look really nice!

Mr Black, nice find! Does it fit you?

  12. ^Pure gorgeousness DJ! :) And great purchase Tyler - beautiful colour on those 1000 milers!

and after seeing swepea's service boots, I guess I'll buy the WWII impresssion ones before the MASH ones ;)

Thanks b_F! :) I can take some detail shots for you, but the WWII ones are definitely not as nicely finished (visually) as the Japan repros. But they're only a fraction of the cost, and are still really well made.

I will say that they are extremely uncomfortable without an insole. I sized up on mine, and it took a lot of trial & error before I found an insole that worked perfectly.
