  1. Milsurp everything. On top of being generally super durable and comfortable a lot of field gear has some good trading value in militaria/collectible circles.

I got some Vietnam era wool socks($10 - 12/5pr) recently, and it's nasty but as kind of field test I found that I could wear a single pair for at least 2 weeks without any real stench(leather footwear only). Even then I only washed them to be safe.

And I've been wearing that same pair since early October.

Same with a lot of service shirts, although the more modern cotton and cotton blend shirts aren't really spectacular, just cheap and durable.

  2. You could look into milsurp.

Besides the US I know a few of the Warsaw Pact countries issued them for while during the Cold War not sure if they still do though.

A lot of the German and Czech surplus I've seen is in unissued condition and around $20 - 30 apiece.

And of course the dozens of eBay/Craiglist whatever listings.

**edit the last one has a roller buckle but has the edge creased like issued belts so you could change the buckle with little difference.

  3. sounds pretty cool, do you know what the silver is for?

my guess would be its anti-bacterial effect so for example blisters won't become infected

Yeah probably to prevent cheesefoot like in running socks.

  4. I tossed my name in the hat for the Ebbetts group buy in supershopper and just measured for my fitted size.

Apparently their smallest size is still too big for my head. Don't know if I want to get one if the wind will just blow it off my head every few minutes.

    :(

  5. Awaiting highly publicized injuries due to heavy denim and subsequent banning of denim over 10oz in Britain.

edit: a couple of other groups have this stuff now too right.

I know Eight G has their 30 and I remember Edwin being involved somehow.

  6. I was under the impression that even the 2008+ 501 still uses some type of Cone, but I also heard a while ago that they use locally produced denim, ie Mexican factory uses Mexican, Indian factory uses Indian.

I saw a video tour of an Indian mill's dyeing process, I remember them claiming some association to Levi's but maybe I'm remembering wrong and it was Lee.
