  1. Thanks to both of you guys :)

Well I gotta say the second one isn't my favorite, I just like the overall atmosphere of the image. I have many others to post, but am still picking out the ones I really want to post vs. the ones I don't.

Tsxer - man I'm terribly sorry I never came through for the shoot! Next time your up here let me know and for sure I'll be there to help out :). When you say lose detail in the colors, are you talking about her jeans? Or is it because they are too dark? I see the lifestyle in the second image though, a lot of the ones that I'm having a hard time choosing between are definitely fashion oriented images. I really only tend to put watermarks up on FB though, I try not to and if I do I try to make it fit in at least, but I have a love/hate relationship with watermarks cause one day I'll wanna and the next I'll be like why the hell did I watermark that photo?

Sometimes I see fashion photographers watermark their photos, othertimes I just don't, I'd definitely say a majority of the time I don't see that happening though.

No problem brotha, Ill be out there in May for like 2-3weeks.

Yeah you lose detail in her jeans.

Watermarking is always a debate between photographers, but in the end, it does you no good. If someone steals your image,. more power to them. Reason I say that, is it should be seen as a form of flattery. The person who stole the image is not going to make any profit on it unless they try to slap it on a t-shirt or some BS, but it doesnt happen that often, If you shot like alt-models with their tits out and shit, then yeah I can see the possibility of someone trying to print that, more.

Only other thing I will say, DONT POST PREVIEWS!!! Dont post any images until the whole set is done. Ive made that mistake so many times, and its always biting me in the ass. I say this because when you finally finish the set, and youve processed the very same image you posted a preview of-differently, that old "preview" image is still floating on the net.

Either way, you're definitely progressing, just keep at it man. I see you working new angles and pushing yourself, DO IT TO IT! I tend to blurt out advice only because I really didnt have anyone to offer the same for me. My way isnt necessarily the best approach, but take it with a grain of salt.

  2. Lax,

Loving the new work since you made the push to working with agency broads. If Ill say anything, watch your colors, you can lose detail in them. Also figure out how you can make your locations work to your benefit, the 2nd image with her leaning back looks awkward, starts to go back to that "lifestyle" look youre trying to avoid.

Last thing, DONT watermark your photos. It looks very un-professional. It draws attention and has no real use. No one is going to make a profit off your image, aside from you, the model, and agency.

  3. Completely fair. I am just not a fan of how Vans finishes their vulcanized soles. The uneven overlap of the sole on the heel with a tab on top of that is an ugly finish to what is otherwise a nice enough shoe. Plus I am almost guaranteed that I will see no one else in my area wearing these, and its a different silhouette from Vans.

Yeah I see it your way as well, and actually just noticed the variance of sole height. I do like them, guess I just can't justify cost.

I am astounded at how fast these moved. I saw the notification on the Tres Bien Faceook page, went there, and they were sold out. Ended up getting them from Opening Ceremony after checking the stockists, and they are starting to sell out there as well.

I guess I just don't get it, a better built Vans for 100 bux more?

  5. Question for those who own or know about FBTs:

How is the sizing? I wear a 10.5 in most shoes but rarely find FBTs in that sizing. Do they run slightly large or small? Wondering if I should purchase them in a 10 or a 11 since they are more common.

    Thanks

  6. lax loving your fashion stuff.

getting more into that too, like lookbooks and stuff.

anyways for some inspiration you should look here, this chick is mindblowing.

in her bio she said shes inspired by femininity, thats something I've been thinking about. Not sure how well i understand feminitiy as a guy.

Haha fuckin Tamara, she lives just south of me like 3 hrs. Pretty rad chick, shot a bunch of her more popular stuff on a Contax T2, good stuff.

  7. Thanks a bunch for the reply! Yeah, right now I'm still in 'the scattered place" with my portfolio. Individually I like the images I've put into it, but together it just doesn't express what I want it to. The problem for me is that I don't have the models that fashion kinda needs if that makes sense. I do my best directing the models and what poses to do, but I'm not very good in that aspect since I haven't been fortunate enough to work with more fashion models it could also just be my lack of knowledge on fashion though.

xcoalesce takes some seriously incredible photos though, but you both have different styles. Not that I don't like his style, but I prefer your style more as it's almost more minimalist and doesn't look as photoshopped (not that that's a bad thing). It's also kinda more 'street' the way you take yours since it's using different angles, crops, etc.. I tend to work a lot in photoshop with curves, levels, and the like, but I hope I'll eventually develop the style I love and stick to it.

Dont you live in NYC? Just hit up agencies.. Dont be afraid to do so either. Granted the worst they can say is "No" but theyre genrally pretty polite. They always want clean images for their new faces, I think you could easily offer that.

As minimalist as my work may be perceived, alot of post work goes into it as well. You have to learn when to draw the line though, and that can be hard. I notice you have a lengthy gear list, and I think its also best to learn to not be so focused on gear, but to be focused on being "creative," and becoming more "hands on."

btw, really dig the last set.
