  1. just got my new grifters in the mail. for those of you considering buying, i ordered them on the 6th of jan, got confirmation that they were shipped a little more than a week later and got them today. pretty good turnaround time considering they went halfway around the world (miami, any sufuers here or do i have the nicest jawnz in town?). i measured up as he suggests and got 31 where my old jeans sat. they are a little loose at my true waist, but saggin' 'em a lil fixes this. as you all know, the details are insane and the denim looks great with all sorts of character.

wutup erkel high waist pics. pretty tight in the thighs, but this was desired. also, left plenty of room for stack. this is my first pair of non-peasant jeans (had 501STFs and still have lw indigo n&f weird guys). i think they are pretty standard, but any thoughts on fit/care are appreciated.

  2. @farmer - i wanna be a farmer. i'm a professional student (gonna be a doctah some day) and being all about the knowledge economy just makes me want to get my hands dirty sometimes. you think it's possible to keep a 'working farm' workin' on a 1/3 or 1/4 work week?

  3. some guy in a department store told me he was the "denim expert" if i needed anything. i wanted to quiz him, but he woulda given up at selvedge, if not denim weight or chain-stitched hems, i'm sure.

  4. Some good options might be the current year's GoLite Badlands Trinity pants and last year's Reed Pants if you can find them (good thing about these is they are packable -- I've seen these myself and can attest to their waterproofness, even after several washes, with no retreatment). Patagonia Rain Shadow is the same kidna deal, but more substantial than the Reed, less so than the Trinity. None are Gore brand fabric, but all are suitable copies, I believe. Lemme know if any of these work for you. Oh yeah, all of them are breathable, too.

  5. you can't change the lens on an LX-3

e: also that's my everyday/only camera what of it

+1, same here. i got a cheap asian tube, uv filter, cap, hood, joby and a invisible shield and that is pretty much all that is necessary for my day to day. maybe if i really wanted to get into the photo game, i'd have to upgrade to dslr, but i mostly use it for touristy/memories shite, not art or commercial purposes.

  6. if you wear them with a suit just make sure they're not beat up at all... You'll have to decide if they're dress boots or jean boots.

You can wear dress shoes/boots with jeans, but not work boots/shoes with suits...

i disagree, sir. a nicely worn pair of boots can go both ways as long as they are properly cared for.

  7. I think the Van Dessel has a derailler hanger. So in that case, yes.

Or you could use an internal geared hub on whatever frame you wish.

I raced for a team that was fairly heavily 'sponsored' by Van Dessel (I think we got better pro deal prices than any other amateur unit that rode for them) and own quite a few. If you are talking about the Drag Strip Courage, their track specific bike, it DOES NOT have a der. hanger. The All Systems Go, their TT frame, has horizontal dropouts ("fixie" friendly) but, I wouldn't use that frame as a beat around (doing ill "fixie" tricks and such) unless you were riding gingerly on it. Only one side of the dropouts has a reinforced sleeve. The ballin' Country Road Bob, on the other hand, can be set up fixed, free, geared with a der. or with a Rohloff or other internall geared hub. This is because it has what is called an eccentric bottom bracket. Chain tension, an important "fixie" and singlespeed parameter, is set by a combination of chain length and distance from the center of the BB to the center of the rear hub. I don't really think that an eccentric BB is ideal for fixsters because it requires a little more finagling to dial in chain tension. If you go with a Van Dessel, all of them are dope in their own way.

  8. damn, ya'll, didn't know carrying things e'rday was such a phenomenon. here is the stuff i lug in pockets on a regular basis. tough in miami where we have no outerwear with extra pockets. sometimes some of it goes into a backpack if i'm going to school or whatnot.

contents include: paul smith pos fall-apart wallet (notables include: card magnifying glass, metropass, id, moneys, discount cards, lucky $2 bill), htc touch diamond, kiehl's balm, endura 4 wave, access to top secret buildings, keys and more easy access, planner, cheap old school wannabe casio, ipod, moleskin, folding wayfarers (w/ optional pink croakies), cheap fountain pen. novis: lumix lx-3 with taiwanese adaptor tube, UV filter, hood and cap, invisibleshield, joby and OE strap.

gonna upgrade some of this edc stuff with the bling on this thread. torch seems like a great touch as do the stainless or ti tool/self defense nuggets. also, haiti deal got me thinking about preparedness and i am prob. gonna cop a firearm/cc permit and some general survival stuff soon, too. never can be too prepared.
