  1. Has anyone ever Amish "friendship bread"? My sister brought some of the batter home the other day and to be honest, I'm pretty intimidated. You're supposed to wait 10 days after activating the yeast or some shit. Every day of those 10, you have to mush the bag and leave it out in room temperature...

you feelin' lucky? haha, nah, actually sounds pretty cool. i'd be game if i ate starches or grains.

  2. dubcbadass - What's your height/weight?

    i'm like 145-150lbs. and 5'5.5" (every .5" counts).

edit: freshdave, i had totally subscribed to your blog (before I killed all my RSS feeds a few days ago due to too much procrastination). can't wait to see those shoes when you're done with your project. very kewl idea and sick shoes. i would def kop some natural leather boots like that if i wasn't a grad student (= poor).

  3. Anyone ever tried steak tartare? Is it as gross as it looks?

only gross if you are ve-gay. like sushi, except with herbs/spices added. bo tai chan, vietnamese (i think, azns correct me if i'm wrong) raw beef appetizer thing, is one great variation.

  4. yeah, my lw indigo weird guys are tagged 30 (a size down from my AW grifters) and the waistband measures 17 across laid flat and aligned. that would be 4 inches of stretch if the waistband began @ 30 (might very well have as it lost about 3 inches after a handwash and machine dry on hot once).

  5. You can also get the Solis166 which is essentially rebadged into a Starbucks Barista. Works well for cafetiere. You can mod it to grind fine for espresso.

    It's quite cheap.

i have one of those starbucks poss sitting around after an upgrade to a rancilio rocky. it would make a nice companion to a pressurized portafilter machine with unpressurized basket 'mod,' so you could put together a whole setup for less than like $125. will ship it to the first taker for like usd 7.50 + shipping. (7.50 basically free, just to make it worth my time). full disclosure: i 'modded' it, which means i just set it to grind finer by spinning the burr inside the case. it takes a little finagling to get it working tip top, too as the grind knob broke and i had to gorrila glue it back together.

  6. yeah, i already got neg repped for that comment. troof is, some sources say yea, lots say nay. although, to be honest, i haven't gone to the original literature myself to check it out. i was just trying to make a joke.

pics of these little peppers (i think datil peppers... as in "datil do it"). legit hotness. throw one of these in one of those huge stockpots full of chili or whatever and the whole thing will burn like a mo. in fact, i accidentally just touched my face after opening the bag and my lower eyelid is burning.

  8. Im a barista at what's probably the busiest little coffee shop in town (tiny little place, authentic italian style cappuccinos/lattes etc.) so I'm mid rush, head down tamping away and this dude walks in wearing what looked to be some LVC's, RW's, tucked in chambray and an ALD belt... caught myself staring, forgot about the shots I had just pulled, ruined them...had to play it off like I didn't just fuck up my whole order because I was staring at some dude

(and to top it off, I live in Kamloops BC, population 80,000, closest denim pick ups are at least 4 hours away, most people are either snowboarders who rock skate shop brand stuff, rednecks or typical quicksliver/billabong heads...needless to say it was a pretty big deal)

well, did ya talk to him? get his numba?

  9. it ain't that bad. should/could be cheaper, tho. i guess, all in all, good they are upping the denim game for the masses. didn't someone here guess levi's would be doing selvedge again by "next year" (posted in 2009)?

  10. well hello medical school interview.

oh hi tums and stress and all that shit.

don't stress too much about the app process. i am a first year now. you get plenty of time to stress once you get in. if you get a year off b/w college and med school, think of it as gravy and get a job so you aren't so strapped for cash during.

  11. in the interest of it being the end of january, me being in miami where it is no weather for cross and me not having trained on the bike at all since about last april, here is a pic of me jumping some barriers in a cross race last year (first ever, i won b/c i was sand-baggin'). bike is a van dessel hole shot. with full '09 rival and some cheapo cantis. pedals are OG SPDs, wheels are stock FSAs. cross is tight if you have never done it and want a fun intro to racing a bike. carry on after pic.
