  1. Peterparker, I'm wearing size 31 1001's. I'm 5'8 140 and my thighs are 21 inches. I have plenty of room, but I bike a lot so I might have stretched them more than other people would. My fit is pretty close to the pictures you posted too.

  2. hey all,

i'm thinking of getting a pair of the FH 1001's, can anyone tell me if these jeans are really hot to wear in warm weather? (16oz denim + tight weave)

i have a pair of 21oz IH's and the weave is so loose that they aren't too bad in the heat.

    thanks!

Well "hot" is subjective, but yea they're warm. I rode my bike in 95+ weather with them on. You don't really feel it until you stop though. Then the only thing you want to do is get them off. Direct exposure to the sun will also warm you up very quick.

Then again, any jean is going to be hot in hot weather. But in comparison to my cheap-o 501 stf's the 1001's are warmer. The 1001's are also a slimmer cut leaving less room for your legs to breathe so that may also be a reason. And yet another reason is that the 1001's were much darker so they absorbed more heat. And comparing them to IH... I can't help you there.

  3. Nice ^ They''re great jeans, here are my 1001's....

5 months, 1 pre-soak, debating whether to wash or soak them this weekend. I biked an average of 8 miles a day. I was going to start a new pair after a year because of all the great stuff out there, but I'll probably stick with these for another year or more.

    Actual color between this:

    and this:

Here is the denim below the knee. It's still pretty dark and a little hairy

Here is the denim on the thigh, which is significantly lighter

Hopefully you can see the continuum from dark to light here, in person it's much more pronounced.

  4. If I'm looking for a slim fit, but not body hugging fit on the heavy winter flannels, should I size up one? I've read some previous posts that would indicate the cut is extremely slim.

  5. My girlfriend has to do a paper on an American icon/artifact. Naturally I suggested that she do her report on jeans. I know there are quite a few knowledgeable people here, so I was wondering if anyone had some good books she could look at to start her research. Right now she's going to be looking at "Jeans, a Cultural History of an American Icon" by James Sullivan..

Anyone know some more books along these lines? Thanks in advance.

  6. Has anyone heard of Renew Denim?

    http://renewdenim.com/

They have a storefront in Davis, CA that's supposed to be opening sometime this month. They're advertising on Craigslist for sales associates. The sign on their window said they would have denim and vintage clothes.

Does anyone know if they have their own line or if they are strictly retailers? Or what brands they will be carrying?

  7. is the only difference between 1001 and 3001 that the 1001 is just thicker?

and are these super slim? and should i get true to size or size up or down?

From the self edge website about the 1001:

The famous 3001 cut by Flat Head, does it even need an explanation? The 3001 has been updated with a heavier weight 16oz denim and now comes with a button fly.

No they aren't super slim and they aren't tapered.

I would size down. I did a little less than true to size (Got a 31 and I'm in between 31 and 32), as they stretch quite a bit after an initial soak.

  8. anything good or interesting that i can fade in my back left pocket 4 my flathead jeans?? i hav a wallet in the right back pocket

    thanks

brass knuckles, but only if you smash people's faces in on a daily basis.

And I agree, there can never be too many pictures of these jeans. 1001's after 1 and a half months of wear (8-10 miles of cycling to and from class everyday), and the blue is just breaking through. But it's beautiful. Teaser. More pictures in a couple months
