Has anyone done the Levi's 1917 501 JEAN RIGID? I just got mine in the mail and I am on the fence. i may send mine back and go with the 47. I got my normal waist size knowing i was going to shrink them down but should i have gotten a size down?
does anyone have measurements of before and after soak/shrink?
why do you wanna switch to the 47? everyones got a pair of 47s(they are great though), and I dont think anyone has the 1917s (on this forum).
I say if you think theyre gonna fit you, keep them. but that may just be because I wanna see some fit pics and some sweet wear.
if you're going to send them back, take pictures first.

I have 2 pairs.
one is fall 07 and one is spring 08.
fall 07: 1year of wear
Spring 08: 6 months wear
i'd take some new pictures of the older ones but i'm out of town and wont be back til march 24th.

It's odd that the 201 doesn't seem to get much play time on these denim forums as, say the '47 or 501 in general. I mean they're (in my opinion) the most complex and intersting lvc denim out there. I can only imagine what it looks and feels like in hand, if I can only find my size, I'll get myself a pair and find out.
they are really interesting : denim, suspender buttons, cinch back, cool patch etc...but I think the reason they dont get much play on the forum is because of the cut itself. they're always described as being so wide legged. i believe that turns a lot of people off. I know thats what happened when I was looking for a new pair of LVCs, so I opted for the 1937 501.
I've still never seen a fit pic of the 1920s 201...

needy users wouldn't need to ask silly questions if they would read the thread. or just use common sense.

does anyone here have any experience with william lennon & co limited? they're a UK shoe maker and have some sort of association with Solovair.
I was lookin at their site for a friend who wants to replace his doc martens and I found some real cool lookin shoes on their website.
these are my favorite : http://www.williamlennon.co.uk/footwear/78ptc-mens-traditional-leather-derby-boot.html

I cant really tell if it is embossed or not. if i had to give you an answer i'd say its not embossed. but it is very difficult to capture the embossing, which I learned the other day when I was trying to photograph my leather patches to post in this forum.
nice original price tag on those. $3.98
also, does anyone have a fit comparison or a description of the color of the denim for the 1927 501? I'm lookin for something a little more tapered than the 37 and really dark denim, but has a cinch back and belt loops. the 501 guide says these are similar to the 1901, is that in fit and color?

are these the cone 1917s from japan that were mentioned recently on this thread?
they have redline selvage unlike the european 1917s made with kurabo denim. it says made in japan, but would they use cone denim?

they look great so far. you should definitely cross post this in the LVC thread.

loomstate is a much less vague term then raw. to me raw encompasses all denims that have not been treated (as in distressed) ,washed or rinsed.
this discussion is getting silly and I would like it to go back to being about LVC.

then sanforized denim can't be considered raw either because it has come into contact with water.
i think thats what paul t said...

i thought they were supposed to shrink from tagged size...

I just got my new '47's from Cultizm. Great service ordered them and two days later they're in Connecticut from Germany. The odd thing is they are marked 36w - 34L and Cultizm says they should measure 35w - 34L but out of the box but they measure 38w. If they shrink down to a 35w that would be great. Anybody had a similar experience? What do you think?
that is really weird...and goes against everything i've ever heard in regards to sizing 47s. thats really annoying to hear. I hope they work out. is it not possible to have dejan send you the measurements of the actual pair he will mail you?

Definitely, and I don't think anyone is freaking out that you upped the exposure, but I think the better option is always just to take photos in broad daylight.
but the best option is to use diffused light from a window and use a gray card to measure exposure. actually a lighting studio is best but who has access to one of those, and who wants to be caught photographing their jeans in it.

i dont think that is a stress point or anything and probably wont get any bigger. but if you wanna fix it, just put some denim on the inside of it and sew it up either by hand or with a sewing machine.

INdigo by the way is not water soluble.
yeah, you're right. I looked that up today on wikipedia and I was definitely wrong. the wikipedia entry on indigo is pretty interesting though.
I dont know where I read that it is water soluble, but i was definitely wrong.

^^ thats what I was referring to. were those never released in europe?

They're not distributed by LVC, I believe they go thru a different distribution channel.
Not straight repros, cuts are adjusted slightly, more of an emphasis on the washes, don't think they're made in US, they looked good to me, washes and distressing looked very close to some of my old orange tabs.
could he be referring to the 517s and others the tailor toggs did for Levi's? I always thought those were LVC. they do have that new series called "reissued" or something. Those are definitely not LVC.

Whats the deal with the embossing on the leather patches?
my 1947s from F/W 2007 USA Line have an embossed patch
my 1947s from s/s 2008 Euro Line do not have an embossed patch
my 1937s from s/s 2008 Euro Line do not have an embossed patch
now I remember there being some discussion about embossing vs. no embossing but it doesnt seem to have anything to do with authenticity...
anyone have an answer?
nobody knows whats up with the patch embossing? paul? airfrog?

i think indigo is water soluble so, yes it should be that easy. but its way easier with a cleaner, like if you sat in the tub with your jeans on to control the waist. when i did that i got a large spot of blue the size of my ass on the tub and I couldnt scrub it out. so the 409 got it out easy.

just use 409 or any other house hold cleaner, its not hard.

are those ultimate indies in the back right? they look awesome. you should post some details of all those.
