  1. Cheers Crash and fur,

I'll do some fit pics when I get chance - that'll be a first for me...

I really like the green caste denim - I'm looking forward to them getting a bit more worn and draping a bit more- yours look like they're getting there.

Yeah, you're right about the narrow leg- there's a real chance of rockin' a Max Wall look with these..

  2. Inspired your enthusiasm Crash, and the photo of you and Kanji, I got myself a pair of the green caste Evisu. I went for the Hotel Fans. I've only been wearing them a month or so - I'll post pics when they're bedded in.

(calvinc - mine are tagged 33 but are about W36" - I like them sized up)

Meanwhile, heres more pics of my ancient Evis - the Big Paints and the 2101.

Thanks for the encouragement Crash and selaviso.

  3. Great find Crash. They're just what I've been looking for - just a couple of inches too small on the waist these days!

Thought I'd post a couple of shots of my old Evis Big Paints. Not great shots -will try some more in natural light.

  4. Hi zissou,

like Opie, I've got a pair of the bucklebacks. The 34"W are, as he says, a very generous cut. Mine are more like a 35/36 W.

I did try a 32" but they were just too small in the waist - measuring, BIG style, about 31".

The denim is really fine quality and the hand finishing and attention to detail is really great.

  5. I just received the samples too - some really nice looking fabrics.

Also, (maybe people already have this), some of the weights:

No.14 unsanforized right hand twill Selvage denim 13.5-14oz red line

No.15 unsanforized right hand twill Selvage denim 13.5oz red line

No.16 unsanforized right hand twill Selvage denim 13.5oz red(black) line

No.17 unsanforized left hand twill Selvage denim 13-13.5oz red line(side yarn: brown)

No.18 unsanforized right hand twill Selvage denim 12oz red line

    so many to choose!

  6. Nice...would have been interesting to see what they looked like when you first got them... :)

thanks CTB, one thing that was there when I first got them was a painted diacock...now only traces left on the back pockets...

and yeah, coleslawyum's jeans look great, but like him, I'm not sure I can rock the braces - makes my gut look bigger too!

  7. I e-mailed ooe yofukuten the other day in english asking about their shipping/payment options for international buyers, I'll post up their response if it's relevant!

    thanks aho, I'd appreciate that.

  8. Kato rising!

Glad to see the Kato interest is growing - I'm wearing my bucklebacks ( kindly given by Lewis at superdenim after I loaned my other pair to a Denim exhibition!)

The sizing is a bit on the big side but the denim is amazing and I really like the unfinishedness of the hanging threads...i've been wearing these since the end of the summer - no sign of any fading - the dye is so deep in the denim.

...I really like the collection shown on repeattofade - would love to get some shirts and a jacket....

  9. Yeah, it's a nice jacket and a good fit...I keep trawling ebay now!

... I'm thinking of going for Lot 2000 (though I'd like the 2001 too) ...ordering them from BIG when they have someone in to paint individual kanji...that's the idea...

  10. .

Incidentally, can anyone tell me when Evisu changed their name from Evis? Is the Evis still used on some tabs?

I'm trying to work out if the jacket's an older piece or not...

I'm no expert regards the name change CTB, and l've certainly seen it stated in articles that it changed in '91, as Lenn says.

Personally, I bought Evis jeans (and a jacket) in the mid 90s in London and remember the name change taking place in about '97, when Evisu appeared and started to be more widely available. Just my ten cents, mate.

btw, thanks for all the posts - you've helped get me interested in Evis/u again and I'm saving for some No1s

  11. this is pretty cool. are those epaulettes or a collar? this would probably be worn under a coat which would tell rank.

Hi tweeds...I took the photos and made notes from the info at the exhibition; in the display cards the denim details were described as 'epaulettes' though, I agree, they form part of the collar. I do remember this particular piece was a keep-sake loaned by the wife of the serviceman who'd worn it... I'll check back and see if I have any other info on it, like his rank...

Edit: Finally sourced the original info from the exhibition (which will be on display in Portsmouth, UK. in January), here it is:

'Title: Royal Navy Jersey Tunic, regulation issue, dark blue oiled wool with pale blue denim epaulettes

    Date: Probably mid 20th century

Caption: Standard issue for naval rating; although the denim tags occupy a small area of this tunic, they flag the associations between denim and masculine ideals of courage and the adventurous spirit. Worn by Reginald Woodward who saw active service in WWII, his uniform was carefully preserved by his widow.'
