  1. Hi all,

Can anyone advise how I'd go about getting additional rivets in a pair of jeans? I have a pair of Albam classic slims that i'd like to customise by perhaps sticking in a crotch rivet, or something on a back pocket perhaps.

Is this easily done? I'm based in London so if anyone could suggest a supplier for getting this done....?

    Hi Mr. Black,

You can use a rivet hole punch tool and hammer - I found a photo of one on this Bridle making page(!) to put the rivets in.

There used to be a really good haberdashery/ironmonger on Earlam St, just off Seven Dials in Covent Garden - I imagine you could get one there.

    Hope that helps

  7. This is a great idea for a thread Cotton.

These are a few photographs from the exhibition 'Denim; the fabric of our lives'.

'The prevalence of denim in military clothing had become so pervasive by the mid C20 that it featured in popular terminology. Beale's Dictionary of Slang states that the Durham Light Infantry fighting in Tunisia in 1943 was known as the 'Denim Light Infantry'.

Newly introduced uniforms were often made of denim as an economic expedient, such as the first British Home Guard Air Raid Precautions uniforms that consisted of overalls made from 'Bluette No.T.500, a denim fabric that repelled dirt and oil...

...The Danish army replaced their woolen uniforms with denim - as evidence of Danish modernity perhaps?...'

Ladies Civil Air Guard Overall, 1930, similar to the 'Bluette No.T500' worn by Air Raid Precautions Guard (ARP) in WW11.

I've taken a few photos of my Evis Lee Riders. I got these in the mid 90s and just unpacked them to take a few photos if anyone is interested.

They've been in retirement for a while along with a lot of other denim from that period which I'm planning to supermarket soon.

The red painted arcuates have disappeared due to some harsh treatment and a boil wash (!)

The detailing on these jeans is really nice and the denim has a very soft, smooth feel.

  9. 45 canes are looking good, but just thought id throw out warehouse duckdiggers for the hell of it, really intereseting denim and nice cut, although of course price would be higher (220-250?)

I like the Duckdiggers too, Hysteric. I also got my eye on the Real McCoy S600 Bronco Buster. They're look interesting too ;I'm hooked on cinchbacks. Also, they just got them in at superdenim.co.uk which makes them easier for me to get hold of.

  10. Hi Sympathy,

I'm no expert but I remember seeing them for the first time around the end of '86, in London. In a 501 style.

Around then a whole lot of companies started bringing out black jeans. Flip had been doing some black jeans in the early 80s.

Like I said, that just a personal memory and black jeans were certainly around in the seventies but I don't remember them being Levis.

Hope that helps or a least prompts a more informed reply :)

  11. Does anyone know where i can get 1966 501 rigid in a 32/34 preferably in the uk ? I've searched online and eveywhere is sold out

modual, I have a pair of 66s I bought from American Classics 2 or 3 yrs ago. Theyre limited edition, a run of 1210, labeled as 34' but actually 32'. I tried wearing them a couple of times but they've always been too tight. Still raw. I'd be interested in selling.

  12. Currently really liking LVC 1880s ( and searching for some raw 90s) and some Kato...

...this is the story of an obsession: dating from early 90s:

semi-retired: Edwin, very well worn, Evis Big Paint jeans, extra pockets on front, very worn, no paint left, Holmes ( pre Silas, much loved, nice fade) 2 x Denime, rotated, nice fades, Lee 101Bs, worn to nothing...

must get around to selling so I can buy more jeans

...Evis Lee copies - never seen many of these around,

Japan Blue, Full Count, great fade but too small now, some Blue Blood,...2 pairs of skinny Japanese Levis... LVC 66 (optimistically downsized and really too small!), SugarCane 47s...

  13. There's a big 'Denim;the fabric of our lives' exhibition at 'the hub' , the National Design Centre in Sleaford, England starting 28th June 2008. (thehubcentre.org) I have a list of questions which will form part of the show and I'd appreciate if anyone would like to contribute. Please mail them to me at [email protected]. Thanks!

List six words you associate with denim.

What made you fall in love with denim and what is it about it

    that fascinates you?

Name your favourite piece of denim, or brand/designer that

works with denim, and explain why this is so.

Why is denim the most widely used and popular clothing

fabric in current use across the world?

Why is indigo the most popular dye for denim?

What’s your favourite song title or lyric that refers directly to

denim (e.g. Venus in Blue Jeans)?

Which movie best sums up what denims are in popular :)

    culture?

What do you consider a denim crime?
