  1. can anyone recommend a decent literary review website?

i just need something with reliable and decent reviews of new and varying types of writing (fiction, non fiction, poetry, travel, etc etc).

edit: basically something like sputnik, but for books rather than albums.

    Bookslut.com?

  2. does anyone have online coupons for luckyscent or other similar sites?

also interested in oud wood scents...

also want a bottle of cdg kyoto for cheap, what site/store has it for less <$70 ?

for free shipping at luckyscent: mua

EDIT: I have way too much time on my hands...

Tobi.com, coupon code: 090915, free shipping, total is $66

  3. What are some of the good bars in san fran? I'll be staying in the pacific heights/japan town area in a couple weeks, but any recommendations for good bars throughout the city would be appreciated.

Also is there anything uncommonly interesting happening on (Aug) 20-25?

    Thanks.

  4. The only US stockist I am aware of is Henri Bendel. They do not sell the ELDO frags on their web site (except for Bendelirious); not sure if they would ship, but you could call them and ask.

Just got an e-mail that Luckyscent is carrying Etat Libre D'Orange line. Gonna pick up Jasmin et Cigarette.

  5. Gimme, I have a question.

Where do you put a line between a gay scent and a woman scent or a man scent??

For example, if I put on DK Gold, to me I do not see anything musculine in it at all, so will this imply that I am gay?? Or something like easy to wear like Mure et Musc.

Yo K, thems lines is tight 'tween when yall'shit's smell aight 'n when niggas be faggin, but if you implyuating that it's easy o'summin to distingerentiate gender, ya'll's is mistaken.

  6. what is the raunchiest scent there is? i tried musc ravageur and didnt find it as panty dropping as people claim

edit: has anyone smelled ajne fragrances? im tempted to get a sample set for $25

Musc Ravageur may possibly be the worst fragrance I've ever sampled. Very strong. I put some on one evening before going out and almost threw up in my car it was that god-awful. The mix of vanilla and clove with musk does not jive well, at all.

    MKK just smells like gramps.

Have you tried Rose Poivree by TDC? It's pretty raunchy but all the notes work perfect with each other and it comes off as refined yet dirty. I'd try that if you're looking for panty-dropping raunch.

  7. Does anyone have any idea how L'Artisan's Tea for Two holds up in warmer weather? I'm thinking of purchasing a bottle, but for the price I'd like a scent I could pull off in any season. Is Timbuktu wearable in the summer/spring, even?

  8. I've since changed my mind about Blenheim Bouquet upon actually wearing it on the skin. Comes out much too much like old man musk on the skin - not so on the blotter paper, mainly the lemons, etc. even after the drydown.

On the plus side, I wore Dzongkha today and that's fabulous.

Hey! I wore Dzongkha today! I got a sample last week. I have to say I was pretty disappointed. The opening is amazing and has the most literal leather smell, I've never smelled such an accurate leather scent, but then it just dries down and the leather is basically gone and all that's left is a florally and powdery smell. At least that's what my nose/skin got, we'll see how Timbuktu fairs and the some other L'Artisan's I've got coming my way this week.

  9. As jack mentioned, M&G is a great musk, so if you can get it cheap, go for it. Kiehl's is very similar, and usually cheaper, but if I had a choice, I'd go with M&G (their rum tonic is great too...although it doesn't smell of rum).

Thanks for the insight, I'll give it a shot.

I did order some musk samples - Musc Ravageur (although I read on your blog it doesn't smell much of musk, unfortunately) and the egregious Muscs Koublai Khan. Both are overpriced and probably wouldn't purchase a bottle, but I'm just curious to see what they're like.

Also ordered samples of L'Artisan's Dzongkha and Timbuktu that I always wanted to try.

  10. the answer is in the signature right above you

Thanks, I sometimes forget there are other blogs out there. Very helpful. I read the review (surprised there'd be one for that particular brand/fragrance, but there are quite a bit on that page!) and it seems promising and positive.

I wish you could order samples (or rather get free ones), I steadfastly disabuse myself of the idea of purchasing whole bottles blind, but am conflicted with the relatively low price point.

  11. Anyone have any experience with Malin + Goetz fragrances? I'm always a little weary of skin/hair care lines that put out fragrances... They're pretty cheap and I was looking at ordering the Synthesized Musk. Would the low price point be worth it just as a simple type of musk scent?

Monsieur gimme, what would you recommend in the lines of musk?

  12. sizing advice? Blackbird says they run two sizes large, and I'm about a 34.5 now, so would I get a 33 for a slim yet not-painted-on look?

    http://www.blackbirdballard.com/April_77_Dictator_-_Heart_Attack_11149.html

    Anyone have measurements/experience with Dictators?

whoa they have an online store now? When did this happen? badass!

Smaller sizes tend to run more true to size. I just ordered a pair from blackbird and I only sized down one (27) and it fits great. In bigger sizes I would imagine it would run ... bigger ... uh, I'd go with a 32, sir, since the waist in larger sizes would be much bigger than tagged size.

These jeans (the ones you linked) are slim/straight, so I wouldn't expect much of a "painted on look" - that's usually with the Joey cuts
