  1. yo edmond ... u still got con nect at take 5?

lets not talk politics here ... this is a politic and religion free board ...

Rofl, sorry, but I guess it was unavoidable since we're talking about a corrupt catholic country in Asia. Bah?

Anyone tried riding fixed around Manila? It's such a trip, almost dying I mean.

  2. i read somewhere from a singapore statistics company..

that the only way to erradicate the problem in the philippines ( take note: the philippines) is genocide

Something about the distribution of wealth right? I remember my Professor explaing to us before about how the majority Philippines' wealth is concentrated amongst a select amount of people.

Anyways, I didn't need a statistics company to figure that out. It was either kill all the poor folks, or murder all the corrupt politicians. Take your pick.

  3. Effing tried to ride my bike to work the other day aswell in an effort to erm.. lessen my carbon footprint, avoid parking, and gas expenses. It just didn't work, ontop of being abit of a mess when I got there, the guards didn't allow me to park my bike anywhere.

Our country has some really bad, deep rooted problems. The only way to fix that is drastic change and sacrifice, something no-one is willing to take.

If we could only think of solutions as well as we could complain.

  4. That's another thing I noticed here in the Philippines. Working in a streetwear store, who do we cater to since there's no real street culture here?

I haven't been around the equator much, but maybe it's because of the weather? I figure that it doesn't lend too well to walking in general. Imho, it's just too polluted and hot most of the time.

I guess you can also say that zoning is at fault as well. Aside from malls, there is no real place where people can walk around casually.

That being said, walking around is probably one of the things I miss the most from everywhere else because you just can't do it back home.

  5. Not to be judgemental, or close minded or anything.

Another thing that bothers me is there aren't alot of people making wearable menswear. It's all these too metro/gay designers making all this avant garde, homo shxt that no right minded person would wear.

  6. Sango! FTW

Funny enough, I was there the day before it made it's way into this thread. I didn't get a chance to try out the food though. Judging by all the trash and mess my friends made, it must be good.

On the topic of local designers, is it because of the quality of textiles we have available here? Or does it come down to the plain construction of the garments?

  7. japanese food meetup!

Seconded, that sounds like a great idea. Nowhere too overly pricey though. I can't cope with SuFu food prices.

How about local designers? There any that churn out anything worth taking a look at? Im sure there's a few, but it's just abit hard to find.

  8. haha american/canadaian wages are shite..

    so are manilla..

I know 18 year old co-worker that works with me at a retail store here in Manila. We had a trip the other day and calculated that his years salary is just 2 months of what his significant other would make in Best Buy.

Life's a trip. Good thing cost of living is there to even everything out.

  9. Ooohh, thanks.

Well another place i've got quite abit of experience with is Defacto. It's this place along Mile Long that makes custom tailored denims. It takes a bit of trial and error from both you and them, but I have a couple that fit just amazing.

You can get more info about them at their Multiply site, which address escapes me at the moment.

  10. This threads been picking up. I didn't think that there'd be a decent amount of Filipino SuFU members, I guess this proves that we're everywhere.

So, is there anything good to get over here in Manila? Good deals and whatnot?

I know of one place that is alright, still slightly overpriced, but I'm sure you've heard of it. Homme Et Femme, over in Shangrila Mall along EDSA is pretty decent I suppose. They stock a couple APCs and some other brands. Definitely worth a browse.

  11. Yeah, haven't been up to Filthy Grommet myself, i've heard they're reselling a couple nice shoes, and the hoodies, I think, are designed by one of the owners I hate going up north from Makati though, I end up spending my time driving in circles, and getting wrong directions. Not the best thing to do in snail paced traffic aswell. :(

  12. Yeah, Theodore's has a pretty good selection, and a mean overcharge. How it stays in business, and who shops there, is beyond me. They are the only place though that carries Common Projects in the Philippines I think. It's worth a peak if your having some trouble deciding what size to order.

It's a great place though, if your looking for Stringray leather wallets.. :o

  13. I work over in Greyone Social in Rockwell. It's alright, I mean, nothing really SuFu approved, but for street wear, we've got a pretty broad collection of brands, 3sixteen, 10Deep, Stussy, that sort of stuff.

Another store that is pretty good is Bunker, it's over in The Fort, in the Carport compound. That's Borgy Manotoc's store. Im not exactly sure what they stock, from what I remember, just a lot of "collabo" items. They love their "brand x brand" stuff over there.

Crate is a good place if your looking for sneakers. It might be a bit hard to find if you aren't familiar with Makati though. They carry a pretty decent collection of sneakers. (Nike SB, Visvim, Ubiq, NB).

I've got to be honest though about one thing, most of the stuff you'll find in the Philippines is overpriced, ranging from a tad bit over, to rape prices. It be better buying elsewhere if you had the option to, because most stores in the Philippines just resell.

Based from experience, the only place you might get a better deal at is our store, Greyone Social. I don't know how it works and it don't mean to be biased, but due to how we ship it, the items do ends up to be a bit cheaper than it would normally be in the U.S.

  14. In terms of streetwear, there's a lot of stores, just scattered all over Manila. It's the "in" thing over here for the moment, and people can't seem to get enough of it. Idk.

    P.S.

Stuntastic, I think I saw that face in your avatar a couple months back. All SuFu'ed out with Evisu jeans and alot of leather shenanigans hanging from his waist. I lolled inside.

  15. I was going to post an un-educated, "I don't understand the appeal of those Spring Courts" rants, but then after a bit of google, a bit of reading, I kind of want them now. ....Strange.

I've seen them personally and they don't look too chunky. It looks like it'd fit similar to the way your average Chuck Taylor high top would. I'll definately give them a try the next time I get a chance to swing by the city.

  16. Was able to check out the Ksubi sale today. Stuff they had inside probably didn't warrant the 30 minutes you'd have to fall inline for. I didn't expect that the brand following would be so huge.

Washing dishes for luxury fashion items, that should be good.

  17. I've maxed out my internet limit aswell. It's on a morphine drip like pace of 5 kbps, terrible for lurking, specially on SuFu.

Speaking of jobs aswell, what's a good place to look for casual work? I've got around 3 weeks left in my Melbourne stint, and cash flow is getting quite dry. :(
