  1. I agree with Jet. There are stil a few great pieces each year, so I don't care if not everything is perfect.

Also, funny that you would try to discredit an entire line just because you are very skinny and their stuff has gotten less so. That's just the way they cut it. I'm not that skinny, I like it better now. who cares. RO makes long sleeves, Japanese brands are cut small, etc. You just learn how stuff fits and roll with it.

I'm not saying APC is always the perfect fit for everyone or that everything's great, but just trying to give an unbiased opinion

  2. I am friends with one of the owners of NDG and I can assure you this is not the reason for their pricing. It simply has to do with the resources they have available (read: funding) and the quantities/materials they are using. Their prices were so high before because they simply didn't have the proper funding to turn out such high quality clothing in large quantities and cheaply, so instead they chose to keep the same level of quality but do small batches and keep the prices high to cover costs.

Now they are more successful, sold in barneys, etc, and so they can afford to do things larger and more efficiently, thus lowering prices.

In fact, unlike most brands, I have respect for what they do- they take it seriously and want to produce quality, whatever the cost. nice that the cost is going down though...

  3. Amlai, Calden, LeatherSOUL, familyman, jskidder,

Good points, I had to ask the S.A.'s repeatedly because I also was sure it couldn't be shell cordovan. I assumed I was just naive- I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about shell cordovan as most on this thread. They explained that while many shoes are just horse hide, these shoes are actually the shell cordovan from several (as someone here suggested).

Then again, they did have a retail price of 1750. that's why I felt compelled to say that I think Augustas are beautiful shoes (in fact everyone I know who is into handmade boots from the carpe family thinks augustas are the best), but only on a big sale, as thats just an outrageous amount to pay for a pair of boots. I was lucky enough to get them for about the price of a new pair of alden's- otherwise I would have felt compelled to hide my head in shame for making such an outrageous purchase.

I think they will age very will given the quality of the cordovan and the sturdiness of the boot, and as soon as I get pictures I will post- both before and after some time has passed.

  4. crossposted from the "black laceups" thread-

I just got a pair of Augusta Shell Cordovan black laceups. So far I really like them. Its interesting, there is another thread (shoes that look better with age) where everyone is really geeked over Alden Shell Cordovan, and those type of boots, but this thread doesn't seem into the Alden/White's old school style, preferring more fashion forward stuff.

I like both, and I could see what Chris meant when he said he was looking for an alternative to CDiem. Augusta seems like that, if you can find them on sale, at least.

    Posting pics of Augsta's soon

By the way I really like Chris's Ann D boots in supermarket now, sadly I'm probably too big for them, but they are a good option for anyone looking for nice black ankle boots with laces.

  6. I was at Stuart and Wright but didn't get anything. They had something like 20-30% on stuff, and had some W+H hoodies left, a few APC Coats that I didn't like, etc. Very nice people and good place but other than W+H I wasn't that impressed with their buy.

  7. Just went to the Oak sample sale. This was the first sample sale I have ever left having bought nothing. It made me think to myself "oh, so this is all the crap no one else wanted."

They had some decent brands, but seem to have either sold out or never bought anything good. I tried a pr of Nudie, an awful pair of Corpus "stick acid" jeans and their one Filippa K item which seemed inferior in quality to something from Urban Outfitters.

Anyway, not so great, but they do have a cpl pairs of Acne jeans for 100 and a lot of Neal Sperling, so if you like either of those things its worth going. Otherwise might as well save your afternoon.
