  1. Even though you're asking for how what we dress regardless of situation, I think that's a pretty big oversight. Environment (both cultural and physical) is the biggest determinant in how people dress and ignoring that would be a mistake.

I generally think of clothing as a mode of communication: what does will my outfit tell other people about me? How will other people interpret the relationship of signs made up by individual items as they're styled together? In this sense, I try to always "dress the part", I'm not going to be dressed the same for a night of barhopping as I am going to school.

As far as my tastes go, I favor simplicity. Fit and construction factor in the most, I'm not interested in crazy details or wearing something that I can be sure no one else will be wearing(although that does have appeal).

  2. hey, whats a good spot to get a banh mi. i went to lee sandwich today to get one and while it was good and hella cheap. ill assume there to be some hidden gem that i dont know of.

If you're down with veggie food, tofoo com chay on 9th and santa clara has some of the best i've had. The banh mi there is fucking awesome!

  3. I imagine LA has a lot of small print shops (not copy shops, big difference. fuck kinkos). Dealing with a printer face to face is much better than going through an online service, since they'll be able to show you proofs in person, talk about problems immediately, etc.

  4. 2. Zenii got me thinking about the whole emotional connection thing. I only just realized that the movie failed to create a sense of care in the audience. Which is fine imo, cause it was still a great movie and already pretty long. An emotional connection woud have made it even better, but it definetely was not a necessity.

My mom cried at several points in the movie, and I definitely cared about Cobb resolving his guilt issues. Just sayin!

  5. Couldn't help thinking about philosophy the whole time I saw the movie, it's wonderfully open ended and leaves a lot of room for questioning that can't be answered - which is it's greatest strength, conceptually.

What I took away from it, on a personal level, was its exploration of subjective reality: in a world where we constantly search for meaning, and answers are never given, the creation of one's own meaning becomes crucial. For me, the ending scene, as well as Mal's whole existential crisis(resolved in suicide), represented the affirmation that an objective reality is not as important as the individual's personal reality.

And I could go on, but I'll spare you from my opinions and leave you to decide for yourself (since I think that was the whole point of the movie)!

  6. A friend asked me to start contributing to a music and photo blog, and we're starting to pick up some steam. It covers a huge variety of music that falls under the umbrella of DIY music: punk, pop punk, twee, indie, grunge, etc. Lots of stuff from the 90's, but also plenty of current music too. Check it out if it sounds like it's your cup of tea!

  7. Why can't I figure out how to embed video on this? Feeling retarded here!

Big Business - ex members of KARP and murder city devils, and both these dudes play with the melvins now (at least they did on (a) senile animal and nude with boots, and live during that time). Video's not that great, I just love watching the drummer!!
