  1. yeah, positive.

Kunk you know about the Alife dunk knock offs right? They look good sometimes too. Friend of mine tells me they have much better construction quality than dunks though I don't have much experience with either.

  2. I saw someone waiting for Q at 42nd once wearing dunk highs with swooshes removed. Looked great.

I didn't slow down to ask him about it though. No apparent structural issues due to swoosh removal.

  3. A guy I know can never understand people with accents.

chinese, japanese, hispanic, even black people.... Am I supposed to step in and translate for him or something?

I am not sure if this bothers me so much because I dislike him or if I dislike him because he can barely understand people.

  4. New soho Jil Sander store is great. Designed by Raf Simons, apparently not even with collaboration with any architecture firm. He really shows the type of mind which can be used to be a great designer/artist. Taking an Industrial Design degree through various media.

Store is a prism to relate Simons's visions to the consumer. Changes the way I see design and art. Combination of visiting at the perfect time in my life and great execution, absolutely must see interior.

Other great NYC stores have been mentioned already, but I will add a couple comments.

CDG- a little gimmicky, but still great.

45rpm- both soho and UES locations are extremely good. UES feels like more of a facade on a normal store than soho location, yet overall I prefer the UES one since it is larger, airier, feels more diverse.

Nom de Guerre- Favorite in New York from what I have seen. Very well executed. Could have been gimmicky yet comes off effortlessly.

  5. radiohead greater than TAAS?

These Arms Are Snakes live have been the best concerts I have seen. Opening for International Noise Conspiracy on December 10th 2005 at Slim's SF, March 28th 2006 opening for Isis at Great American Music Hall SF, October 19th at headlining at Grog Shop Cleveland were all great. Opening on the Mastadon tour was not too great due to 6pm set time and dumb audience.

GAMH show was best. First time hearing most of the Easter stuff and Snere had the biggest emotional breakdown at that show from what I've seen +++

Yelle at Knitting Factory NYC last February was also surprisingly great. Boris at Knitting Factory NYC last March was good too... truly terrifying how loud it was.

Best party show ever has to be Girl Talk's late show at Bowery Ballroom September 19th 2007.

Really want to see Isolee or DJ Koze someday but I don't know when the last time either came to the US was.

  6. oh my god shit was SO GOOD.

first off GHB.tv some how got GUEST DJ TIGER WOODS. I had no idea he was up on his music game like this

    tigerwoodsguestdjdv5.jpg

Then fucking Danger destroyed everything of course and vanquished most (not all too bad...) sleazy high school prom looking dudes from the venue

Thank you ROYALEFATALE for reminding me I owe you. Seriously I got your back from now on.

EDIT: also got into his dressing room post show and touched Danger's sweaty back and shook his french hand yessssss.

  7. No, you guys are wrong. :D Row House at Sumiyoshi is my favorite work of his.

I really like this. A small residence, upstairs and downstairs with open air atrium in center. In order to move from one side of the house to the other you must walk through the "outdoors."

Some people I know write it off as contrived and tacky... I really do not feel that way at all. I think it is a great utilization of small space. Almost of the opposite of traditional japanese interior design; instead of having multi purpose rooms which can easily be transformed from sleeping on futons to entertaining guests to dining the transformation goes on during the commute/journey between rooms. This journey is emphasized by crossing thresholds from indoors to out.

    I love it.

Wish I could make this lecture.

anyone been to his restaurant in NYC? is it worth checking out? Morimoto I believe it is called in Chealsea.

  8. kind of funny reading some of these posts to me, comes off as slightly hypocritical at times...

Bottom line for me- be humble, appreciate what you have, respectful of others. my grandfather paid for my father's school and now I am really honored my father is working hard to pay for mine. One day I want to help my own children get through school and enable them to put (academic) education first before worrying about loans.

Yeah, holier than though rich kids bother the hell out of me (not as much as rich kids who say they are poor though fuck them) but people always talking as though paying/working/loaning their way through school is more authentic and legit than anyone else gets irritating fast as well...

Like Inaya was saying I bet there are a decent amount of young people on here spending 20-30 dollars a week on groceries like myself in order to justify minor expenses in entertainment/clothing.

for the record it's not like I am spending hundreds on clothes each month or anything... a few people on here know how I dress and it's nothing extreme at all in my opinion.

  9. really feeling new Girl Talk.

using way more samples I recognize and love than previously; not just radio stuff more old school rap and rock.

Ice Cube x3 (and I am only on 9th track) that is what I am talking about.

not sure if anything will get better than BIGxElton John on Night Ripper though. As hyped as that section is I straight up love it.

cannot wait for the tour on this record. Please late-night Bowery show again.

by the way..... get it here

  10. I just downloaded it. Seems ok... reminds me of IE more than the previous version. The screen seems much larger now which I like.

One thing I don't like so far is the way it tries to remind me of what page to visit.... I usually type "go" then press down arrow to go to google.com, gm then down arrow to go to gmail, "broo" to go to brooklynvegan stuff like that but now it takes me to a supertalk page which has "goto=132431341" in the address instead... maybe I should start using real bookmarks.

Also: I once downloaded AOL instant messaging to video chat with someone and regret it.

ever since then instead of automatically searching google when I type an incomplete URL into the browsing text entry area it searches through AOL instead... this bothers me.

anyone know how to fix it? it is still AOL searching even though I upgraded to Firefox 3. Uninstall then reinstall? Thank you.

  11. same here, i thought he was a chick.

and that shirt looks extremely gay. flamboyantly gay.

(not that that theres anything wrong with being gay if you are, that shit just takes it too far though. and if you're not you're sending a message that i doubt you want to send)

    doodoo-1.jpg

dude thats dope i like it how the shoes color matches the shirt.

EDIT: damn i just noticed the hat!

  12. I have been thinking about this more.

and I have calmed down after my initial anger at feeling "tricked" into seeing a movie with Jude Law, Norah Jones and Natalie Portman. Fortunately only two of them were ever in one scene at a time.

The thing that really strikes me is that this feels like a film made in America by a foreigner.

As an american viewer I have trouble not getting caught up in my expectations and prejudice; Jude Law bothers me since he plays the same border-line sleazy guy in a lot of movies and has personal life tabloid issues, Norah Jones is an ok musician who is really not my type, Natalie Portman I actually like but know a ton of people who cannot stand her, Cat Power is too obnoxiously mainstream indie and border-line sellout.

In one way I hate that I cannot let myself get over these types of things. This is why I usually enjoy foreign music and film. I haven't been forced to see media overexposure of the actors' personal lives, don't have to deal with connotations from people I hate liking an actor/musician or people I like hating an actor/musician. Additionally I really enjoy not understanding lyrics, or even better listening to Japanese lyrics where I might understand 2-15 words per song.

It is refreshing though to see these people I would normally dismiss framed with the perspective of WKW who almost with an innocent, child-like viewpoint can judge the actors for who they are.

Another level of simplicity in film is that pretty much only two "real" characters with emotional depth are interacting on screen at a time. Allows emotions to be examined with fewer distractions. Almost more like chess.

and the gambling scences I wasn't really into. I wrote an essay about gambling and living in Masahiro Shinoda's Pale Flower this past semester and really learned a lot while writing it so I was almost too burnt out still to enjoy another gambling scene so soon.

It sort of bothers me how much I let personal connotations get in the way of experiencing and analyzing art sometimes, but at the same time that is a major part of life and artists take that stuff into account.

Glad I saw My Blueberry Nights. It is art. Recommended.

  13. WHAT THE FUCK

    this shit is in ENGLISH

god damn I just saw this. I try to stay pretty clueless about films since I hate most contemporary stuff and rarely go to non-MOMA theatres. pretty dissappointed when I realized all the actor's names in the opening credits were white pretty much.

regardless it was good though. too much Cat Power. Should have substituted Jana Hunter for any cat power song and the whole thing would have been better.

  14. I basically sized down. My waist measures 33 or 34 but I got w32 since I have only ever worn w32 pants. After stretching a bit though the waist on my pair is perfect. Right after buying I wished I had gotten the w33 but aftter a month or so I was glad I got the w32.

I think I gained weight though... in the past couple weeks for the first time ever the thighs are skin tight when I sit down. 6' 3" 155 lbs time to go on a diet? :):(:mad::D:P

Seriously though these jeans are slim. Size up or stay true to size unless your legs are tiny.

Also soak and wash these jeans liberally. I didn't wash until 10.5 months and sort of regret it. The color and fading will look much nicer I think with early exposure to water and if you do what I did (not wash) you will get lots of cracking and holes behind the knees. undersireable in my opinion

if you do have larger thighs perhaps a different cut of jeans would be more flattering? All depends on the look you are going for of course.

  15. i think they were cords...

    Yeah, they were cords.

Very thin cord lines if you know what I mean... The ridges were not too deep but they still had nice heft. 5 pocket construction with arcs. I didn't try them on or anything so I am not sure about the cut.

  16. I love Neckface. I can understand respecting an artist and just not feeling his/her style but you really think he is garbage?

I was actually talking to Dino about this last week while he was in NYC but I feel there is something very human about Neckface's work. I haven't met the guy myself but apparently he is just out there doing his thing and doesn't try to explain/justify/intellectualize his work much. I feel as though there is a cultural and societal filter in the way for every creative process I perform but that Neckface is some how able to remove this filter from his work.

One of the first pieces of his I saw is the hairy arm on top of a building which is 40 feet long or something... I think he has put this up in a few different places. When I see it there is something which captures me about it. The way that I wish I thought of these things myself, I relate to his work on a personal level. I have heard it said about Steve Jobs and other really great public speakers that they are so good because just as the audience is thinking "ok.. that is good but there must be another way to look at it, something else to do-" then before they can finish the though Jobs is one step ahead and flips to the next slide and the entire audience is thinking "exactly! that is what I would have thought." Neckface is doing the same thing to me on an artistic visual level.

Count me out if you want since I have to admit I first heard about Neckface from his New Yorker talk of the town write up. Additionally I have to admit I don't really like any of the stuff I have seen from him in the past year or more, and that his tags when he is just scrawling stuff doesn't do much for me. I respect that he has gone corporate though, he is making some money no doubt and I have to let him.

In terms of innovation, I haven't seen much recently. I am getting pretty sick of "street art" graf murals but also sick of dumb tags and names everywhere. Someone will come along though.

  17. awaiting Habia to expand upon his tastes as they seem so magical

Ha, here I am. "magical" not too sure about that... I do consider myself a pretty hardcore music fan and underground head in lifestyle though.

I honestly am not too deep into the minimal scene, especially not techno or trance since I don't even like much of what I hear.

That being said, two artists- Isolée and DJ Koze- have really changed my life.

It started out summer after 11th grade when I was chilling in Tokyo. Read about Shibuya's Cisco Records in some guidebook and while I was going through DJ Krush records the Isolee song My Hi-Matic came on in the store. I was like "This is fresh," bought the We Are Monster LP then bought the CD a couple months later when I realized my CD player sounded a lot better than my record player.

Then I read about Kosi Comes Around by DJ Koze in The New Yorker's year end best music list. Bought it, was absolutely not into the record at all for months until I was in the back of a van on that one huge downhill section of road going into Death Valley at 11 or 12pm after 14 hours on the road. Since getting Kosi Comes Around the past January I had been primarily listening on my Stax SR-404 (which I got in Tokyo the same summer as the Isolee album.. just trying to establish some narrative continuity) but in the van I was using Etymotic ER-4P/S which really brought out the detail and aural textures Koze creates.

After that I started looking into more Playhouse and Kompakt artists.. got some Total compulations, started listening to Villalobos through the Koze compilation All People is my Friends. Over and over though I keep coming back to We Are Monster and Rest by Isolee and Kosi Comes Around by DJ Koze. Check these albums out they are straight up art.

A lot of Isolee's stuff actually isn't even minimal if you go by the musical definition of minimalism... grabbed this phrase off the wikipedia page it is pretty close to my understanding of the movement "steady pulse (if not immobile drones), stasis and slow transformation, and often reiteration of musical phrases or smaller units such as figures, motifs and cells."

One artists who really caught my attention on the Total 6 compilation is Rex the Dog. Anyone listen to him much? Recommendations?

And I know Stefan Kozalla AKA DJ Koze has had some other musical projects goine on, mainly Adolf Noise. Anyone listen to those? How are they?

  18. I have learned the error of my ways. Let us be sensitive in this moment of mourned youth and naivity I am going through a rough time right now.

you don't want to see the cracking behind the knees...
