  1. Diors are a hype merchandise.

Quite possibly true. But there is no getting around the fact that if you have the body type that works well with straight, thin jeans then Diors are one of the better cuts. Nothing fits me as well as my 19cm jeans, and I have quite a few pairs of different jeans. To me, Nudie and all the popular Japanese brands are just as hype as Dior Homme jeans.

I like to think of it this way. If a bunch of popular jeans were laid out in front of you, all without brand names, and all the same price, which would you pick? I will always pick the ones that are a) the best fit and, B) well made with quality materials. Right now, the 19cm's are those for me. Im sure I will find something better one day and will wear those instead.

There is an interesting example in the DH jeans thread. fade to black2 asks whether there is a market for 2nd hand Diors even if the "Dior" logo has worn off. For some people this may be an issue....these are status buyers. For me, all that would matter is how much the jeans themselves have worn. I could quite easily cut the tags off my jeans and still be happy. I am sure there are others here that are the same? A true test is whether these jeans sell in supermarket i guess!

  2. Nice thread.

Personally speaking, I would never buy a single article of clothing to wear just because it is " X " brand/ label if it did not fit me in a way that I was happy with or I felt suited my body. I truely think the majority of people that post here feel the same way. In my opinion, the people that are the best dressed in WAYWT often have one designer label on, and the rest may be American Apparel and a pair of basic Vans or Converse shoes. They are not decked out in haute fashion but they are still fashionable and look great.

Case in point, Dior Homme jeans. These are a very simplistic design, no exterior markings, patches or anything that would scream status to the untrained eye. But they are still very popular. What gives? This proves that the majority of people that wear these jeans wear them beacause the fit and cut is impeccable, and they havent decided to wear them just because they are a trendy, upmarket brand. The exact opposite of the equation are LV logograph bags. People choose these to be seen, and to show off, functionality plays a very small role.

There is a fine line when it comes to commenting on fit though. I wanted to try to avoid using specific names but I dont think I will be able to. Who? and Diamonds are a couple of the guys here that I consider to be best dressed, because in my opinion they choose items that fit them well. They wear great clothes too, but it is not the defining factor. They can make cheap brands look great because they incorporate them in nicely with the rest of their ensemble.

Streetwear to me is much more about exclusivity and brand names. I dont mean to offend anyone, its purely a matter of taste that I prefer a pair of plain white Chucks to a pair of artist collab nikes that are limited to 500 pieces world wide. All the guys I see wear streetwear all always decked out in respectable brand name expensive gear. Now this is where things get complicated. When compared to one of the guys listed above, I think people like termite_zee and 78 dont have clothes that are as appropriately fitted. But the thing is, when it comes to this kind of aesthetic, the fits that these guys display is probably perfect to people that are into street fashion. So its not even really an arguement.

I guess personal taste plays a large factor and that streetwear vs. the "sufu look" should always be looked at separately. The point I am trying to raise is that certain cheap clothing can be made just as fashionable as hi-fashion lines when the fit is the priority. To me fit and style is much more important than fashion.

  3. but honestly, i think if at this ponit people have acquired a decent amount of Dior denim there's no need to continue following the line...with KVA on board, i think its safe to say R.I.P DH. shit i havent even looked at a pair of my diors in weeks.

Thats pretty stupid logic. KVA may do good things with dior. But at this stage until you see his line, its pointless to start assuming the worst just beacuse Hedi has left.

  4. Best tee's Ive found are Fruit of the loom v-necks from GP. Plain shirts are pretty scarce there though.

Bonds regular white t-shirts are ok. Size down though. I just buy a heap of them and throw them out after a wash or two when they start stretching. You can get 10 for about $100 at best and less.

  5. 1. cheap faded industrial wash denim bootcuts, too tight t-shirt or polo with sewn on patches or numbers with exposed threads and seams and cheap leatherette square-toed shoes. I dissaprove when guys wear a combination of the above. In Australia its usually the young european/ middle eastern guys.

    2. Backpacks for the sake of it...ie nothing inside and deflated looking

    3. Wrap-around Dior mainline sunglasses or copies of, usually in colour tinted lenses. Annoys me both on men and women.

    4. Happy emos. Young girls that travel in packs and dress like goth/ punk/ emo but and jumping around smiling watching things like shrek at the movies. If you are dressed with tear-faded black mascara, you better damn well be carrying a copy of nietzsche.

    5. Superfuture and people who dress well. Annoying as fuck because it makes my hard earned (used loosely) money evaporate. Its a love hate relationship.

  6. Baggy jeans from the mid-90's era skater looked pretty cool. But most guys then kept it simple with slim/long plain t-shirts or plain hoodies. The thing that looks most ridiculous to me in terms of street wear and the baggy pants look are the shirts that are about 3 sizes too big.

Other than that, what type of jeans guys wear is none of my concern.

  7. A DH 21cm cut is perfect. Like others have said its versatile by sizing up or down and hemming (starting from a 36"). Those that say it is they are too tight, or 'ball huggers' are making assumptions.

I like the idea of a somewhat slubby dark indigo denim. Save the green for pocket liners and tabs rather than stiching.

What about straight line horizontal actuates across both back pockets? I havent seen this done often.

I think a plain patch would be cool, with "superfuture" embossed. Im thinking of the SOMET patches. An open ended patch would be cool, like on Lee jeans where a belt can pass between it and the denim.

Im very interested but im not going to commit until I see a sample, or some kind of solid evidence that this will definately happen.

  8. Oroton, the watch shop in the QVB, Messini (? near Mooks), and the suit store outside DJs in Skygarden are all on sale. Seems like most of the CBD is.

That suit store is pretty dodgy. I asked about slim fitting jackets/ suits and they stuff they showed me was far, far from slim cuts.

  9. I like Brad Pitt's ideas.

I like places that are really spacious, so they can have a lot of product but have it displayed in a simple way that makes veiwing each piece easy. I hate cluttered, crowded stores (think General Pants Co. in QBV) where you have to shuffle between racks of clothing when carrying bags or passing other customers.

In terms of sales staff, Id much prefer a dorky guy that knows about his products and what he is talking about than some hot bimbo that is just there to look pretty. Ideally there should be more trained tailers working at mens fashion stores to give sound advise on fit and construction of their garments.

Id like to shop in a store that has jazz or blues music playing at a low level rather than Electro pop that you have to yell over.

  10. Happy B'day pogi!

Where would I start looking for a nice one-button blazer in sydney? A guy I know recommended some of the places in Paddington but I forget their names right now. I want something high quality, in a similar style to the Dior or Filippa K ones.

Id actually buy one if those brands if I could find them in Sydney.
