It's actually based on a Will Eisner comic. Frank Miller is the director and wrote the screenplay.

I actually don't like that Miller is SinCity-izing it, seems kind of gimmicky.

the great thing about fake bags is that they're quite often real bags. apparently the only difference with a lot of knockoffs is the distribution.

That's true but not completely. The knockoffs are often made in the same factories, using the same patterns, etc. But they'll probably use cheaper material and not work on it as hard as they would otherwise.

Your friend is actually right, it's kind of an old unwritten rule not to wear a striped tie with a striped shirt because "it looks like a fcuking optical illusion".
