Pity about Jim Shoulders , I would think he had an interesting life regardless and I am sure would have been seen as an icon by many millions of people over his lifetime .

Interesting read . Great to see someone like Jiom Shoulders is still alive and able to contribute to articles like this .
As for Wranglers , I have a couple of pairs of 13MWZ Pro Rodeo . One from about 1998 I have never worn , still with tags and a worn pair that are probably the most comfortable jeans I own .

Cool jacket !!!
Tried a Levi Europe , i think late 90s version , of this on Friday . Faded finish with tags stating Levi Frontier Jacket Type 1 , card patch stating 70501 . The over faded finish put me off though . Even so I never realised how short these jackets are and being a stocky build it looked shite on me !!! Would have been a decent pickup for someone who it fitted at £5 (chartiy shop)

As i mentioned earler I was in my mates retro shop in Belfast today when i got the 201s and ironicallly he was playing the Yardbirds live from mid 60s ? on cd(lot of chuck/blues etc.. i am more of a rockabilly / punk fan myself) still it kicked ass in a diluted way .
As for the mod connection ??? has he been on the junk again

Modernlover ,
Firstly the waist stretched as expected from raw so I stuck them on a 60 degree fast wash (no detergent) and the waist came back to size but the legs came down to 32 1/2 . The leg length suits me but if this was a problem I reckon they could be stretched out .

Paul , is that because of the historical inaccuarcy or Eric Claptons' patronage ? (he was ok in the Yardbirds but thats it for me !!!)

I have a pair of raw with tags1955 501xx with a 554 stamp stashed , but i will hold onto these . Will probably stash the 201s away also , dont want to hem them . Might wait and see what the new LVC collection looks like and get something new . But seem to have bought so much in the last year , although I have sold also .
Pity about you maybe selling yours .

Mr B .
I would assume 1937 as they have a big E tab , internal back pocket rivets only , Not sure of the differences in other features with the 1920s but the do have a leather patch also .

Thanks Paul , appreciate the reply .
A really cool adddition to my Levi collection , which now seems to contain more full cut jeans . Sold a pair of 1890s last year which I now wish I had kept .

Called into my mates retro clothes shop this morning to pickup the jeans i sell for him on ebay (usually 516s !!!) and lo and behold what was waiting for me but a pair of 201xx leather patch with 555 stamped waist button . Leather tag is W36 L40 but they were more like W32 L37 , just soaked the waist and stretched them (dried with hair dryer) and they now are w34 and fit me like a dream (apart from the legs !!!) The person who previously had these must have cold shrunk them and decided they were too small . They are still very dark , my hand are stained with indigo after soaking the waist . Will I hem them or store them ? dont know yet but still reallly stoked !!!
Question for those in the know , on the wash tag under wpl423 is the no 1097 , does this date them to Oct 97 ?
If i can reduce the file size I will post pics .

Nightdeposit , some serious shit .... I like the field jackets too . I wear daily either an Alpha Industries modern M65 or a British Army 1960 patttern olive combat jacket (This one is dated to 1967 , i got it unworn of ebay last year for £22 !!! fantastic style and quality)
The 1966 101z is a slim cut , not unlike the Levi 501xx 1947 . You can view it at the link below alongwith a pic of the Beatles from 1966 in a Lee advert !!!
www.triads.co.uk/designer-clothing/mens/casual/denim/lee-riders-101-z-denim-jeans.htm
Although Aeroleather has them at £120 !!

ditto for 1950/early 60s Lee 101z
An original late 1940/early 50s Wrangler Bluebell 11MJ jacket .

I'm not hating but wtf ..... $612 for a pair of jeans !!!!!
Kudos to you for having the swingers to spend that type of money on a pair of jeans , I honestly hope you enjoy wearing them .

Not in Belfast today , it's pissing down..... time for another walk in my raw 101zs .
Last week it was sweltering (Belfast term for very hot !!!) A game of football in the sun helpS wear the raw denim just as good as the rain in my opinion .

Depends on your cicrcumstances , how many pairs can you afford etc.... ? As someone who would turnover / retire usually two pairs a year , I generally rotate two at any given time . Usually a regular straight cut (eg 47's) and a fuller cut (eg 55s) this caters for matching with different style jackets/tops etc...
My 0.02c worth anyway .

Buttons are cool but zippers = less chance of pissing oneself when attempting a slash when drunk .
Scovill on LVC 505s and Universal zips on 101z just give them that extra authentic touch that just mikes them worth it for me !!!!

1 . Levi LVC 1955 - cut alone does it for me .
2 . Lee Euro generic 101z (late 90s) - my first selvage denim jeans and faded really nice .
3 . Lee 101z 1952 (Japan) - quality and authenticity of detailing plus great denim
4 . Levi LVC 1890 - beautiful detailing and lighter weight denim .
5 . Lee 101b cowboy 1928 (Japan) - fantastic quality and detailing but never wore them . Bought them for peanuts on ebay and sold for a bundle more which allowed me to buy some 101z's !!!!
On the sub bench - Lee Euro 101z 1966 , Levi LVC1947 .

Thats it for me for this year !!!!
My LVC47s are up on ebay , sold of worn Lee Euro 101z , LVC 1890s and 55s in the last 4-5mths . Have bought in the last 2mths Lee 101z 1966 & 1952 and just this week on impulse a 1990s pair of deadstock Levi1955 repros of ebay . Along with these that leaves me with an emergency pair of raw Wrangler 13mwz pro rodeo and a pair of Fall 06 (6mth old) Levi 1955s which I am trying to wear to death !!!!
Enough is enough .

Came across this several months ago but never thought of posting the link until now . The site sends out regular newsletter on most topics associated with ..... denim . It is a bit fashionista in parts but throws up the odd article of interest (for me anyway)
You can subscribe , for free , might be of interest to some people here .

I would guess that any variation in the denim would be due to the dyeing process at the mill . I would guess either at Cone (USA) or Kaihara (Jap) . In the last 18mths I have bought thee pairs of LVC and all have differed slightly in colour but not quality .
1955 - 06 - very , very dark dark indigo
1955 - fall 06 - still dark but a lighter shade of blue
1947 - fall 06 - slightly darker than fall 06 1955
I suspect that this was probably always the case with mills and will continue .

They wouldnt mean anything to him or any of his friends , there isnt that type of scene in Belfast . Infact I have yet to see a pair of Nudies in Belfast nevermind Samurai ....

Excellent finds and congratulations , hope you got them at a good price too !!!
I have just bought of ebay some 10yr old (supposedly) deadstock 55's with tags , 554 waist button which I think I will hold on to as well , once they arrive .

So for those interested , I tried the Valencia St 1997 repro Levi 201xx on ebay but no takers , no biggy as these cost next to nothing (these were talked on the forum last weekend) However i just sold a pair of second hand Levi 516s bootcuts for £80 , what is it with these jeans . Whilst I had the 201xx at a start price that was for seriously interested people only (£75) I thought they would have sold but a pair of Levi standard bootcut jeans , that never really sold in Europe , going for more than these classics , wtf !!!
Thats the bay for you , always full of surprises !!!
