  1. Got my 5000bk's today! I ordered them direct from samurai-j.com, and everything is still intact (arcuate, tab) - i've never felt anything like them before, my only other pair of raw denim are 501xx 37's and they were nowhere near as stiff, these things feel like cardboard! They are drying now after their soak (3 hours).. they shrank quite a bit (2.5"), although only really in the leg as the waist is pretty much the same. Can't wait to start wearing them...

What size are you if you don't mind me asking?

  2. rainmaker: in example, if you were a size 33, go for a size 31/32 depending on how you like it, hot soak them for 3 hours, wear them, they'll be unbearable but they stretch. Thats what i did, fits nice.

Thanks BTT. I'd answer your question if I could lol.

What/wear is my true size? All my jeans are in between 30-32..none tight in the waist, but that's probably from stretching. Judging from measurements, my height-weight.. I'm guessing I am about a 29.5 in S5000VXs. Was thinking that the right thing to do would be to buy 29s and wear them while they're wet/damp and get them to stretch.

  3. Buying S5000VXs.

Question: given their reputation for stretching, even for a raw jean, am I right to go with the smaller size if I'm pretty sure I'm in between two sizes?

My reasoning is to buy the smaller size is because I can always control my soaking-- either don't soak if they come way too tight (unlikely) or soak and wear to dry to make sure they can at least go on to my body, and then if they're too tight, wear around the house for awhile.

  4. I'm willing to pay retail+shipping+fee to you for the H&M peacoat worn so well by poly800rock in the WAYW thread:

The size I'm still working out-- around 20 inches pit to pit, plus a bit maybe.

I would be interested in any interesting peacoats in general though, so even if you can't track down this one, if you _do have something you think I'd be interested in please don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.

  5. Thanks for all the great advice from everyone.

I would say the 5000VX or 5000BK might be what you're looking for.

I first thought I wanted the S5000VX, but it ended up sounding fuller cut than I first thought. DJ Flame, can you briefly compare it to the SSDS/RRDS?

these are the measurements the guy gave me that i bought them off of. they are actually sitting in my mailbox in houston so when i get them i'll measure them again and see what they are.

SD-103's in size 33 after soaking

Waist... 32" (they are going to be tight but i'm expecting them to stretch, however long it may be -- i actually think its give or take an inch bc i'm not sure how he measured them)

    Inseam... 35"

    Thigh... 12"

    Knee... 9"

    Leg opening... 8.5"

i gather from reading other sd-103 measurements that the front rise is between 10-10.5 inches and the back rise is between 14-15 inches -- which is pretty damn close to an SSDS

It sounds like a 30w or.. 29w worn wet to dry might very well be in my very near future.

I may be wrong but comparing measurements, Samurai S0500XX seem similar to SSDS. Except for a higher rise and slight taper from knee to hem.

I'm definitely not looking for a higher rise, thanks though.

In the same size, SDA 103s fit fuller through the thighs and hips. Also, both the front and back rise are about a 1/2" lower on the SSDS, a sighificant difference, especially at smaller sizes. Also, there is a slight taper to the hem from the knee to the hem on the SDAs, while the SSDS are a true straightleg from the knee. Moreover, the back pockets of the SDA 103s are placed considerably higher, and the front pockets do not have the dropped design of Nudies, so the visual effects of the two models are considerably different.

Wow, thanks for the detailed info. While I do like the dropped back pockets of Nudies, SDA 103's are sounding pretty sweet. I've never done a taper before though, not sure if it works for my body type. But if it's a slight taper..
