  1. Had the same feeling a year and a half ago when I bought a one way ticket to San Francisco from Dallas. I know it isn't that far but it is a world of difference. I figure I'll spend another 4 or 5 years here before I check out another country.

Just do it. I thought on it for 6 months after spending 5 hours in SF and one day just got on xpedia and was a little surprised at myself when I purchased a ticket for a flight that was set to depart in 2 weeks.

I lived out of a duffle bag for the first 3 months but I'm on my feet now. Have a few grand in the bank before you do anything, and then go wherever.

  2. Girlfriend and I are going to new york feb 9 - 14.

    Never been.

    What do I do?

    Where do I stay?

    What do I eat?

Really looking for hotel recommendations, I've got to book something ASAP, looking for a decent room for under $200/night.

    Thanks.

  3. A friend was telling me about a sci-fi series based on the Canterbury Tales, it's called the Hyperion Cantos, by Dan Simmons. I haven't read it myself, but I was told it's some of the best sci-fi written, and takes on some pretty deep philosophical concepts.

    reading dan simmons now

First read The Terror, which is more historical fiction. Then I realized he'd written a shit load of science fiction, which I'd never really read, so I picked up Ilium and then it's sequel Olympos. Those were really cool. Now I'm on the Hyperion series, 3rd book in. It's cool stuff, never thought I'd read science fiction but I've since been told not to get my hopes up, Dan Simmons is an exceptional writer that happens to write sci fi.
