  1. I'm looking to pick up a new tv. I was wondering if anyone had any recomendations or warnings about any particular brands or models in the $600-1000 range. Definately looking for a flatscreen, HD.

    Good or bad experiences?

    Thanks futurists

That's a low budget, are you looking to get like a 26"? I think Westinghouse if your best bet. If you really want to do your own research, go to http://www.avsforum.com Anything you buy, make sure it has an HDMI input, otherwise don't buy it.

<edit> didn't see herpsky's HDMI advice at first. Thumbs up.

  2. In NYC:

    For a quick bite

    Pret-a-Mange for sandwiches and salads

    Sunrise Market for bento

    Grey Dog's Coffee for coffee/sandwiches

    Republic for noodles

    Spice for Thai Food

Mamoon's Falafel for the best damn gyro ever

    For dinner:

L'Ecole for amazing French food that doesn't break the bank

Markt for Beligan beer, mussles, and burgers

Bar89 for simple but great food and awesome drinks

    For brunch:

Tartine for $12 pri-fix and eggs benedict out of this world

The Odeon, the only McNelly place where you don't have to wait on line and still get great food.

  3. Giving someone a present with the tags on? Thats fucking retarded.

If you're giving someone a present shouldn't they at least trust you enough to know that what you're giving them is either real and/or new?

Do you give someone a present with the pricetag on to show them how much you payed for the item?

Im sorry, this is just boggling my mind.

Not with the pricetag, numbnuts. With the tags that come with the garment that indicate that it's brand new and make it presentable. Trust has nothing to do with it - it's about making your present presentable

  4. Thanks for the welcome. In truth I'm not much of a cutting edge streetwear guy. I'm just a 30 year old stay at home dad for three very young kids. I don't believe that I have to look like crap in jeans an a tee or khakis and a polo like every other 30 year old dad who has let himself go that I see around me. I'm a pretty simple dresser but I find a lot of information and inspiration about fit and quality here. This place is great.

Very well made boots are becoming a bit of a thing for me. I have a pair of Russells that I hade made for me in the spring and I love them. A pair of Aldens is on the list for what to get next. As soon as I don't have babies spitting semi digested food on me I'll start into the denim. Thank you for all the great information on the site.

Dude, could you talk to my wife? I want to be a 30-yr old stay at home dad for one young kid.

  5. USPS, Airborne Express, UPS, Fedex, DHL... no fees, ever.

Recently, Fedex called me (re: Dior jeans from Luisaviaroma) because the package was marked at over $200, but they did not say I would have to pay fees, there would just be addditional paperwork required. (In the end, they skipped it since I "convinced" them that they intended to put $180 ... not 180 euro. Haha.)

Hmmm, really strange. I wonder if that's why you moved to Canada (picks up the phone to call FCC ;-)).

  6. Naw. That's never happened to me. At least not in California. I've had thousands of dollars of foreign goods mailed to my California address, usually with full declaration (including a pair of $1200 headphones marked as such), and I have never paid a dime in duty fees.

Now, living in Canada, on the other hand... they'll charge you duty absolutely whenever they can... and even sometimes when they can't.

Did you get it all through USPS?

  7. well i had already paid for it,,then i asked if i could keep that tag and he said no..

would have just made selling it on in a few months time that little bit easier..;)

They did that to me in the New York CDG shop. I personally think that's dumb. What if you are buying a present for someone? How would you like to get a present without tags? Go prove that it's brand new...

  8. I can't imagine APC producing something like that. Also, because it has been done by others since the release of Pulp Fiction. Are you guys sure it was really by APC?

On its own, maybe - but given the iconic status it got from Pulp Fiction, I don't see what's wrong with it. Yes, it was done by APC. It actually said BAD MTHRFCKR or something like that. I think it was a fun piece.

  9. im asking for help.

im looking for an a.p.c wallet from a couple season ago that has "bad motherfucker" embossed on the outside. please shine the light my way.

    thank you

Hah! Everybody wants that! It was sold out in a flash as far as I remember.

  10. Did a search of the forum but couldn't find anything specific so I'm asking here.. I'm ordering something worth $270 USD from Germany and having it shipped to New Jersey, do you think I'll have to pay any customs charges? Anybody here have to pay any US customs when ordering from Europe?

It all depends on the value the store will put on the package. If they put $270, you will be responsible for 10% customs duty. It also depends on how they ship it. If it's FedEx, they will bill you after you get your package.

  11. Hmm, I don't feel comfortable in any kind of jewelry, bracelets included. I do like the leather cuffs on some people, but not really on me. I don't know, I can't shake off the feeling that I'm trying to hard - just my personal feeling.

I did have the Helmut Lang handcuff bracelet for a while - it's a real collector's items. But I needed some cash, and I wasn't wearing it much, and so I sold it. I'll post a pic later - it's on my desktop, and I'm using my wife's laptop at this moment.

I also absolutely love Shaun Leane's work. He is an amazing jeweler out of London.

  12. Nice pickups, darkanimial. That N(N) collection is by far the strongest ever. Did they have those multibutton blazers and coats yet?

And, nice wishlist Crillz. I was at that Cloak show, and it looked very good on the runway.

  13. the coat was 1465 and really doesn't fit like i thought it would from the runway pictures is has plenty of sleeve length, it's a size 48. i would say it fits me very similar to the luisaviaroma website picture

darkanimal: yeah i really lucked out that the jacket was my size, there's always a load of things i'd love to have they're just not in my size. oh and maybe you can expain this i was bored friday so i made the trek over to number nine and of course fucking CLOSED

And of course they reopened today :-)

  14. Quality is above average but certainly not Jil Sander top notch quality. Construction, stitching haves issues and can be sporatic. A button fell off a trench of mine but it came with replacements. My advice is reinforce all your buttons yourself with extra thread. Cloak is all about the details and fit, so I wasn't too concerned but hopefully future collections will see improvement.

2nd. I don't have a problem with my button down, but I do with every other Cloak piece I own. I swore off Cloak for quality reasons, especially since the prices went up drastically in the past year.

  15. sex is good... most of the time.

"Sex is like pizza, even if it's bad, it's still pretty good." Stephen Baldwin in Threesome.

  16. dries says: "It's not that i make showpieces. I don't like the whole system of making like, a collection for selling and besides that also one collection for the fashion show and all the extravaganza...that's why maybe i'm visually a little bit slow with the modern design but i think it's a kind of honesty towards the customer."

    love the man's intellect.

I have the book from Dries's 50th shows anniversary that has all 50 shows in it - they are the most fantastic presentations I've ever seen. He really puts his soul into those shows.
