So would you suggest someone who wears Small American Apparel hoodies to buy Small H&M, or go one size down to XS H&M?

I wear a small AA hoodie and I like the XS H&M hoodies because they are a little tighter in the chest. However I also have some S H&M hoodies that still fit OK. Either way the fit is pretty similar so you should be fine.

I can take some measurements for comparison later if you would like.

never had AA tee before, so i hae some sizing question. i looked up the size chart but they didnt tell the length of the shirt...

so are they all the same?

No. The length scales with the size of the shirt but I am not sure by how much.

^ H&M XS hoodies are going to be just slightly smaller than an AA Small hoodie so they may be a tad big on you but not too much.

They carry XS but only in some hoodies. For example their solid color hoodies go down to XS but their striped hoodies (that are in high demand this season) only go down to small AFAIK.

Also their XS corresponds to a 36" chest so should be a perfect fit for you.

The cut is definitely slimmer and I would say the construction is better but it depends on the model they have some really light ones and some heavy ones too.

They size by chest. I have seen 36,38,40,42 and 44.

I will take a striped pocket shirt as well.

I went to H&M two weeks ago and it looked like there were 3-4 different M65s there. I wonder which one you liked? I picked up a black one that has some sort of pen holder or something on the sleeve.

I can't help you exactly for what you are looking for but H&M carries sleeveless zip up hoodies with the stomach pocket for $30 I think (or maybe it was $20 I can't remember). They are in solid colors.
