  1. Welcome to the Standard of The World club my friend. Blue plaid is looking sick. [edit] Wow, I just checked out the ebay pics and the blue plaid is amazing!

Great find, at a reasonable price. That's the type of shit I would definitely hang onto even if it doesn't fit. If you don't want it, I might scoop it off you, but you should for sure keep it.

    CLASS 5!

  2. Damn Vamks. Nice haul there. Particularly the Gregory lumbar pack. I always think about bringing my 90's face one out again, but I'm not sure where it's gone. Racked from T&T or EMS backwhen. Was great for holding 3 or 4 tall cans too...

    Good stuff.

In regards to that vest from UO, I just passed on a blue "made in USA" vest by Cannondale (related to the bike company? didn't look like it) in navy blue with a similar pocket arrangement. Had some stains I wasn't feeeling though...

INSTEAD...I got another weird piece: It's an non-branded "made in USA" wading coat/rain jacket. One side is salmon colored rubber, the other is as tightly woven olive cotton twill. Fully reversible, two regular snap pocketss and a chest pocket on the left hand side only. The fit is crazy, but I really like it. Olive side out, with the salmon peeking out from the hood iss pretty nasty.

    Best part: 6 dollars.

  3. Good points made by heflys, hebays, and heShoreman1782s!

Maybe I just should have said that I don't like it, and don't think it is worth the money. Or maybe I should have just said that I never liked anything they produced before this. Or maybe this whole discussion is retarded.

I think it is the latter mostly.

I'm getting too old to care about authenticity. I just like what I like, and that's that. And yeah, I aint bringin a 60/40 to Alaska either. But maybe my Filson Alaskan shirt. Ha.

  4. Really impressed with this collection.

While not trying to disrespect your taste, i have to say that from where I'm standing, this appears to be some of the most recycled, unoriginal looking stuff I have seen in a while.

It honestly looks like they pulled a couple flicks off anoutcommunemeta (or shit, even this thread for that matter) and sent them straight off to the pattern maker. I actively encourage the support of USA based purveyors of quality 70's/80's influenced outdoors wear (see my endorsements of CDW and Altadena Works as proof) but what we don't need is people jacking tasteful japanese interpretations of said garments wholesale, and trying to foist them on the street wear market.

This is more of a rant than I meant it to be, but put simply, it doesn't look like their design team put in the work on either the research or production ends.

A bit of quilted barbour+Obligatory mounntain parka+BoOish shirts does not=that new hot fire, it equals hot garbage.

(On the plus side, glad this thread is moving again)

  5. oh wow - no comparison between tan and blue sides, that tan is just too ill.

like how you're pimping out that black fleece hangar too. you gotta post up some of your collection one day, i'm sure there's some crazy shit lined up.

That's Shoreman coming through with the black fleece jawn actually. These are his flicks from the sale.

Both sides are ill, but in real life, the blue pops off pretty hard without being overkill. I have got numerous comments on both this and my new fracap's from people who don't care about mountains or clothes so someone's doing something right.

Sadly, there is not that much "crazy shit lined up" in my collection, but one day, when i get a digital camera I will begin to catalogue it. Some of the more interesting pieces are not clothes, but rather chouinard big wall hammers, telescopic tin cups, OG Sierra Cups, Colorful Slings, etc....

    Oh. My. Word.

That's incredible, the exact aesthetic I believe Mountain Research tried to get, cept theirs is $400 and I'm damned sure yours wasn't. Great find my man.

Yeah, you know how those dudes (RESEARCH GROUP), Workers, S2W8, etc... gather old garments as inspiration for current collections? I feel like this would be right up their alley, mostly because I haven't seen anything quite like it, plus it's fit and pocket/zipper detailing is strangely modern.

You guys shouldn't have slept on my auction! RBW got a pretty good deal, I think--I hope he gets more use out of it than I did. Class 5 gear generally still slips under the radar.

Fifty bones BIN I believe! I really appreciate you not trying to rape fools with the Buy it Now price. I been using it a lot lately, actually. It's a little thicker/softer than 60/40 or nylon shells, so it has some warmth to it.

The only problem is it;s a bit of a bitch to get on and off. A qaurter side zip would be helpful and dope looking, but that's a small price to pay for it's great fit and handsome looks.

  6. Sierra Designs have produced a number of tags and variations on tags over the years. I would say (though maybe with some hesitation given the current climate on ebay) that we don't yet need to fear bootleg vintage SD parka's on ebay.

I feel like that triangular logo tag below the standard 60/40 cloth label came about in the mid 80's and continued on into the early 90's as I have seen in on a number of ugly malaysia made track top looking things that can be found in thrift stores.

  7. GNAR-

I've been adresssing that issue by searching for kind of "off-brand" packs from the same era. The term off-brand is a little misleading, but you know what I mean: Wilderness experience, Class 5, Kelty, etc...

Sommetimes you get lucky with those guys, but with SD...forget about it. The market has spoken and those packs are headed towards Chouinard heights soon if people keep paying the big bucks.

I'm gonna wait for the black/oak rucksack restock at Altadena, and then make up my mind.

  8. I actually really dislike the new White Mountaineering offerings. Not down with this whole sub trend of "mountain Dandies". Also interesting to see that anoutcommunemeta stopped stocking them.

I'm pretty much in love with the Altadena Works packs. Plan on scooping one within the next month or so i think. If the quality is as good as it looks, these beat most any of the Japan-issue packs of recent years. It's nice to see (and support) folks in the USA who are putting out a quality product inspired by the clean lines and functionality of 1970's outdoor gear.

Sometimes I wish i could just turn this thread into a store. Would be great with everyone's contributions.

I been absent as of late, but now that the temp is headed sub-70's, I should be around the way on the interwebs a bit more.

    Carry on!

  9. That Chouinard Piece went for 787!!!!!! Bananas.

Even the Wilderness Experience joints are getting crazy. I got beat for two of em when the bidder/sniper I was against took it past the hundred mark, then I fucked around and lost one I could have won due to internet hiccup.

Any of you fucks win them?
