  1. Go to Grateful Head. I can't gives those guys and gals enough praise. They do an awesome job, create a great atmosphere, there is always good music on... just go and see for yourself. It's on Dundas just on the north side of Trinity-Bellwoods park.

Can they do a barber-style cut? I went to Blood & Bandages but the dude did kind of a sloppy job. Can anybody recommend a better barber?

  2. does anybody know where a person can get some of the dark grey petit standards? they have them at Tres Bien, but their smallest size is 30 and I need a 28. they're not for sale in the apc online store, for some reason.

and as to the sizing, I used to go down three, and they did stretch out after a couple weeks, but after the first wash, they shrink back down and never really give back out after that. I've switched to sizing down two instead (I wear 28 and my real waist is 30) and my jeans are much more comfortable and I daresay they look better this way, even if they aren't as leg-huggingly skinny.

  3. man, I have been having a similar boot dilemma for months now. I had a good look at the Grenson Fred, but couldn't pull the trigger. Trickers are obviously badass, but the price makes me queasy. Oliver Spencer and Rachel Comey are both making winter boots that are really nice-looking this year. If you want a traditional look, though, Pediwear has the best prices that I've seen on Grenson, Tickers, and the like. The Sharp model would be my pick. I've been looking at Aldens a lot, too. The custom stuff they have at Leather Soul Hawaii is nuts if you're already thinking about spending four bills or so.

  4. I'm thinking about getting a vest in a workwear-type style, considering a few options.

    Filson wool mackinaw:

In either grey or charcoal, not sure which is better. If anybody can comment on the fit, that would be nice. Seems like maybe the best value for a vest of this type.

    Creep by Hiroshi Awai:

A little more fancy (it has a tuxedo-style striped shirt-fabric back), almost too precious, but I rather like it (especially the wooden buttons) and it's not terribly expensive.

    Shades of Greige:

Not as nice and kinda overpriced, but it has the advantage of a quilted lining.

    Our Legacy:

I really liked how this one looked in the lookbook, but on the model in this shot it looks kinda cheap (and is kinda pricey).

I like this one a lot but the price is fairly ridiculous.

Sorry about all the large pics.

  5. Looking for a boot for the upcoming winter

    yay or nay?

any recommendations for slim silhuette lace up boot?, would like to get a leather sole, but no use for this in winter

    Thanks

I was looking at these brown ones myself, but 'd say nay. They're just not quite steezy enough. But I still haven't found steezy enough boots that I can afford that will hold up over a Canadian winter.

  6. just started grad school at York and I'm definitely not seeing a lot of ladies in my program or out, but classes haven't started yet, so no need to hold my breath, I guess. campus ain't the prettiest thing either. oh well.

  7. ^ Context's measurements are wack.

Indeed they are. I bought a pair of Petit Standards based on their measurements compared to the New Cures I already have and they turned out to be a bit roomier than I was led to believe. All the same, I'm still pretty happy with them. It's a good cut.

  8. I love those Inverallan cardigans. I'm waiting to see what the J. Crew and h(y)r collabs look like/cost, but I might just custom-order one straight from Inverallan. It's actually pretty cheap, compared to what they cost on the japanese market.

  9. yeah, not feelin' the cow-print vibe on those APCs.

    Boots. Alden 405's:

or Red Wing Beckman moc toes:

I like the Aldens a bit better, but I will actually be trudging through snow in these in a few months, so the more rugged sole and lower price of the Red Wings are appealing.

  10. ^^^when i hear of deals like that, i always get rejealous of those living in/near the nyc

No kidding. I read the Choosy Beggar to occasionally hear about online sales, but if I lived in NYC, I'd never pay retail for anything.

  11. hey thanks, guys, that's helpful. i think i'm going to get a wool coat and just wear some layers and big huge cardigans under it and see if i can pick up a good parka vintage or on ebay.

  12. hey guys, I'm starting to look at fall purchases, but being from the west coast, I have no idea what a person actually needs to survive the winter here. will a pair of red wings cut it for footwear? what kind of coat and boots do i really need if i don't want to freeze?

  13. I just got a pair of shoes from Gravity Pope today. Definitely nicer to deal with them in-store if you're in Vancouver (great staff!), but their mail order was also very easy to deal with. Quick shipping, too.

  14. Bought these last week, but after a day's wear, it was obvious they were a half size too small for me. Hurts my feet. They're in all but new condition (just some dirt on the soles), but since they have clearly been worn, I can't return them. Just trying to get most of my money back. $48 shipped in the US or Canada, paypal only, local (Toronto) pickups welcome.

Not my pic, but these are the exact shoes. My camera's broke, but I can use my gf's if you want to see my exact pair. Any questions, ask away.
