  1. I've been hanging out and going to university and doing a lot of sitting. I have been sitting with friends, as shown here. One of my friends was wearing a decently faded pair of APC New Standards and the almost not-pictured pair is a pair of Levi's 501 Shrink-to-Fit. I didn't realize my friends had such excellent denim!

And sometimes you have to lift electric pianos into trucks with friends.

  2. So I gave them the soaking that they deserve. This was the soaking method (I know I got that chub. Please don't remind me!) There's not much better than sitting in a tub with some sweet denim on drinking a cold one, right?

My secret to breaking in jeans: teach Children in your jeans. It's really all I've got.

And here's a tag that was missing.

I've been giving em' hell, but I'll try to find some more.

  4. My friend, 501cult, and I had been searching for a pair of jeans to share and send across the Atlantic ocean every month or three. We plan to share these and give them all we've got and we'd like to keep it updated here.

The search was tedious for a pair of jeans that fit both of our descriptions: a size 30 tight fitting 501-like (as far as details are concerned) indigo-dyed pair of dungarees that were special, but not flashy. After many things being shot down by one of us and a couple of failed attempt to find another pair we agreed upon, we went with the Studio D'Artisan D1336. It's a lower-rise, slim 16oz. left-hand twill jean with very subtle branding including a "branded" suede leather patch. The only information I could find about these jeans anywhere was when Blue in Green was selling them (now mostly sold out): http://blueingreensoho.com/site/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=5103&category_id=&manufacturer_id=12&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=28

We got them from another superfuture member rather slightly used at a discount. These jeans have a predetermined life set our for them living in Germany and the united States and travelling across the Atlantic Ocean many times. The first chapter is in the United States.

This is them upon arrival yesterday in their unshrunken state:

  5. The line on the selvedge of the contest s0500xx was a gray with silver pieces woven into it. Although the color of the line on the selvedge is different, this doesn't outright proclaim different denim but I would be skeptical.

  6. Did you take pics of your jins?

Yeah, here is one showing the damage. I guess the knee took a lot of the damage too, but you can also see the damage at the ankle on the right leg.

  7. I don't know of a thread that basically discusses motorcycle wrecks and their effects on the jeans, but it doesn't really matter. A few months ago I took a spill and dragged for a little bit and I was wearing some 17oz Samurai Jins and they have slight abrasion on the ankle on one side but were pretty much unscathed. My skin underneath was fine, but on my elbow where I was also dragging (and I was wearing a padded motorcycle jacket) there was a lot of blood and scratches into the skin.

  8. I got a box of that stuff and opened it up and it was full of sawdust! What a crock. I figured that Samurai wanted me to just use the sawdust to cause abrasion the dungarees in the wash so I gave it a go. To my surprise the water became cloudy and smelled like sawdust but it was a beautiful experieince.

But just use it like any soap, man. Use more if you feel like it, but a spoonful for a pair of jeans isn't going to hurt the cotton or anything. I usually end up using two or three spoonfuls in the bathtub when I'm washing one pair.

  9. So I recently bought a brand new "Lee 101J 1946 sample" from an ebay seller in Japan. It was a steal for the price and was exactly what I was looking for. I do know that Edwin and Real McCoy's both make stuff for Lee Japan and it is labeled as Lee on the garments. I didn't know what to expect as it was a sample. Anyways, the jacket came with this tag:

Since the tag labeled it as Edwin, I was a little bit dismayed. Personally, I just believe that Edwin is in the lower end of the denim quality spectrum (especially when considering Japanese denim!) But a couple days of wearing later I took a peek into the right rocket of the coat and I saw the Lee-esque label so I chose to investigate it a little bit and I was very surprised:

So I guess it was actually made by Real McCoy's? Does anyone know any more information on the Lee/Edwin/R. McCoy's deal that is/was/has been happening? It seems pretty interesting.
