  1. Yeah, I read in the dry denim thread that it was for half an hour so that's where I got it from. Thanks for the help obsessis. I think I'm going to have to shrink them at least little since the size I bought just won't fit right. Oh well, I don't mind if the whiskers and honeycombs are faint as long as they're not non-existant.

  2. If I lose a lot of indigo, wouldn't it be harder for whiskers and honeycombs to show up? btw... thanks for the quick responses. Also, since warm water seems to be more appropriate, how warm should it be and how long should I soak it? I've read it should be about 40 degrees and soaked between 10-30 minutes. I know regular STF's don't turn out that great, this is just my practice pair until I'm ready to cough up more money.

  3. I just bought a pair of STF Levi's 501xx and bought them about two sizes too big with the intention of shrinking them a little before wearing them. Anyways, I've seen people talk about shrinking them with warm water and cold water so I was wondering which way people prefered.

From what I can tell, warm water will shrink them faster, more drastically and lose more indigo and shine, while cold water will take longer, shrink them less and keep more indigo. I'm leaning toward using cold water but I do intend on washing them again by the end of summer and I wouldn't want the whiskers and honeycombs to shift significantly from where they should be. Anyways, gimme your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

  4. Haha yeah, I'm a pretty short guy... I'm only about 5'4 so my inseam should actually be about 25"-27" depending on how I want it to look. I cuff one of my jeans that are 30x30 with a pretty large cuff and a pair I tailored were 25" but that's when it's completely straight-legged and doesn't break much if at all around the ankles. Yeah... super short but what can I say? Less is more? *grin* But yeah, is it bad if they shrink considerably or completely before you finish wearing them in?

I'm looking forward to getting other kinds eventually, heh. Thanks for the help.

  5. I've just recently grown an obsession with denim but have yet to buy a pair of raw denim. I'm thinking of starting out w/ 30/30 Levi's STF's to start out with so I can get a feel of raw denim and not cry my eyes out if I ruin them somehow. Anyways, my question is if rain will harm my jeans significantly seeing as I go to school in San Francisco and though it hasn't been raining much this season, when it does, it usually gets you good (I should really be investing in an umbrella, heh). I know a lot of people soak them in cold water first to shrink them a little so I was wondering if rain would have the same effect especially if it'll get soak quite a bit. Thanks for any replies.
