  1. is it also because when you worry too much about your monthly rentals and utility bills, you can't concentrate on your business? There are other factors to consider, I'm sure, but I just can't help seeing these 2 as a major eyesore to any business here ..... Funny thing is that rentals in Hong Kong, Taipei & Japan are high too. My S$4.00 fish porridge here has more porridge whereas my HK$20.00 fish porridge has more fish! WTF?

  2. Ive never had a problem with variety in Singapore. I think we stock quite a good range of clothing labels. But the consumer market for these is so much smaller than say, hong kong, of course you're going to have to pay higher prices. I find the Club 21 sales to be quite good when theres 50% off. And if youre looking for rarer stuff, Shipping to Singapore from Japan is cheaper than to America. If you keep comparing yourself to Hong kong or Japan, youre never going to be satisfied. But we're alot better off than many other places.

If the consumer market is small, it's because people are not buying, because stuff are expensive. By expensive, I mean if you consider the money you pay for the quality of an item. Food included. I don't believe that having lesser people means a smaller market.

We know business must make profits, but haven't you notice, over the years, the increasing number of them capable of giving you 50, or 70% discount? It simply means they have been over-charging, my dear. If they can still profit from a 50% discount, what does it tell you?

Yes, I must agree, that our postal service is pretty good and reliable, though the price is also rising. Buy more from overseas and observe. Yes, it's still cheaper, but that doesn't mean just because the US and Japan are more expensive, Singapore has to follow.

If you are going to become better, to compete, to be (one of) THE shopping paradise 'in the region' ('in the world' can wait), you cannot improve by comparing yourself to the worse. You got to look at the better, and try to beat them. Cost, Price & QUALITY, product, services, knowledge, etc. Don't be contented, even as a consumer. To ask for a better product, at a better price and enjoy a better service is also your consumer rights.

But I must say that I've had the recent privilege, blessing and lobang these couple of years, to have the chance of cheaper (and good) travel to HKG, Japan, and even Taiwan and the US (I haven't tried the US, though).

Favourite at the moment is HKG. About 5 times this past year. Only problem is I've got not enough money !!!!

  3. lek! stop worsening my hatred towards singapore. we even have to be conscripted for 2 damn years. nothing to buy here, nothing to see here.

hahahahaaa .... oops, sorry test ..... :P ... You know, I only miss the people I know when I'm away from Singapore, other than that, no. Sorry, I guess it's just me. I'm a shopper, so the retail market just bore the bloody hell out of me ....

  4. I may have to agree with beast. Just because you have to factor in your travelling cost doesn't make it reasonable for retailers here to mark up their prices like no tomorrow. And please don't tell me about exchange rates, because it doesn't work that way. Prices are about the same between Singapore and Hong Kong, from lower-end stuff to high end shit. The differences? SG is always (or mostly) behind time. Take Espirit, for example, the sale in HKG is 'New Arrival' in SG. You're still paying S$89 for a fucking casual shirt (depending on where you are, HKG or SG, at a given time), which, if we're fortunate, is almost 2 months late! A season, in weather terms, is 3 months, baby! Then I saw the Nike A/W 2007 Zoom collection in HKG about 1 month before it hit our shores ....

Anyone tried Joyce, I.T. & Lane Crawford in HKG? Probably, just the labels these 3 carry are more than the whole of SG put together! And for a lot of the labels, they come in full collection in HKG. Even J.M. Weston almost sent me to orgasm. Then I saw John Lobb ......

I remember vividly about 6 Sisley shirts I saw in Paris in 2004. I only saw 3 of them at the then Paragon boutique. Checked with the guys there and confirmed that Sisley here only carried 3 of the 6 designs. Shame. I shall not go into the price.

What I'm trying to say is that, here in SG, things are frequently over-priced. Variety limited, and stocks arrive slower. Yet, consumers are not paying anywhere cheaper. Finding quality stuff at reasonable prices in SG, is, to me, quite a challenge as well. You've tried Uniqlo, so I'm sure you know.

Anyone buys from Gap here? Or Banana Republic? Where's H&M? Do you know that F.I.L. in HKG is really pretty cool? CDG White House, MMM, Take5 & even The North Face, to name a few more ......

Want to know some of the places my kid sister brought me to, where she normally shops (girls' stuff)? I almost fainted, and I believe it's only the tip of the iceberg ......

SG, Shopping Paradise? You're on the wrong island, boy .......

  5. Yup, he sells at great prices, maybe when I'm a rich, washed-up, old fogey 10 years later I'll buy his Edward Greens...

But I think you can get away with wearing G2000 shirts and cheap shoes to work in Singapore, as long as the fit's good and no squared-toed/loafer monstrosities. Unless you're in a managerial position, flossing isn't encouraged in the office, from what I've seen. Besides, I don't want coffee stains on my nice tops heh.

I actually bought a pair of C&J Savile from Plal recently. Great price and the service is fantastic. The shoes? "No Horse Run" .....

Loake is at Robinson's. Easy to reach, but over-priced. Not very highly regarded over at Styleforum, but at that level, Loake is, imo, one of the best at a "reasonable" price you can buy in SG. Artioli the damn expensive. Maybe Hermes has JL Paris (I don't know), but all these cost x times more ..... By online, boys.

  6. Hi boyz, anyone ordered online from Uniqlo Japan successfully before? I'm trying to order a couple pairs of pants, but I'm having problem with my credit card name. Seems that they only accept Japanese names? ...... sianzation .....

  7. Robinson's didn't have any Loakes on 25% during my hunt, only 15%. They were selling the Mitchum for SGD389 !!! They didn't have the Hickstead, which I preferred. So when I saw the Mitchum, which is in the same range and cross-checked pediwear, I concluded that Robinson's trying to rip us off, even with a 15% discount.

So yeah, IF Robinson's has the Hickstead, I figure they will also cost S$389 (or more). After a 15%, I'd still pay abt S$330.

With Pediwear, I saved S$60. What a joke!

If you are lucky, or/and don't mind seconds, trying http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/ and you may save more.

Sale in SG? C'mon guys ......

  8. er ..... not firm yet. Jeans? Of course man! I'm thinking of a S$30 - S$40 on top of the price of the item. That's all. If successful, you don't have to wait longer than VPJ. I'm betting on this advantage. I'm going to try it on myself first, then see if it's worth the trouble ...... :) Or, do you want to be my genea pig? :D

  9. hey lek, where do u pick up those kick ass wallets?

hope everyone here has been in gd health and rockinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

    cheers`

Sorry for the late reply dude, my modem was down ...... :(

Got my wildswan in Ueno, Tokyo. Bought my Redmoon off Rakuten/Earthmarket. Redmoon has 4 tatoo models at the moment, you might want to check them out. :)

    http://www.rakuten.co.jp/earthmarket/463305/806394/

    http://www.rakuten.co.jp/earthmarket/463305/807143/

Got some 'lobang' to buy things from Japan. If they're workable, I may just be able to hlep you guys pick some items ......

  10. yeah the only thing about the wings is they are abit thin.

i think thats why they are cheaper.

but like you said that would make it suitable for office wear.

but unfortunately thin = poorer wallet fades? (correct me if i am wrong)

i think you are refering to LV right? haha

$250 is a good price for the kind of leather they are offering.

by the way how did you get your wings?

cos the only online site that i can find that supplies WILD SWANS is http://www.goodleather.co.jp/004_wildswans01.html

I bought it from this shop as well, but in the shop, not online on my first trip to Japan. I knew it's in Ueno, but didn't know the location. Saw it by chance, and bought the one I can afford. :D

I don't think thin leather = poor fade, but I won't know since my WINGS is the dark tan version ..... :) black black red red one ..... can't see anything ..... hahahhahaa ....

  11. wow SPANKER II is beautiful, but like you said its expensive.

maybe a little too expensive for a poor man to use. haha

    i am looking at WINGS.

if i remember correctly from many posts before.. you have bought them right?

if so, how are the WINGS doing?

WINGS is great as well, actually. The leather feels a bit thin, but the wallet looks very sophisticated. Great for office wear, and at about S$250, it great value, imo, compare to other mainstream designer brands. Especially the one that never go on sale but the price keep increasing ......

Another thing, though not important at all, is that you know that not many people are carrying the same wallet as you :D . hahahhaaa ....

Oh, and I just love the leather smell ...... mmmm ..... :)

  12. lek nice RM! look at your profile picture keeps reminding me of when i should get my hands on a wildswans. they are beauitful man.

SPANKER II man !!! Expensive, but even from pictures, you can see that the leather is much better and the construction more solid and rugged. :D

Worth every penny, and so much more .....

  13. not really, if you ask me ..... :( From my observation, the thing that stalls, if not moving in reverse here, is what I value a lot ..... QUALITY of the stuff I buy ..... :(

by the way, could resist the temptation ........

  14. sorry, a bit late ....

there's a 12% discount on your vpost shipping charges if you pay by UOB credit cards.

promo code = 051F7DW (valid until end of Apr or May, not sure).

for both vpost japan and usa ..... :)

  15. Bought a pair during my last trip to HK. Compared the Japanese made ones and the Chinese made in the shop. Texture and construction, Japan. The Chinese's workmanship is a bit of a let down, but it's not that bad. For the price, the denim is better than a lot of other labels on the market now. Plus, you can choose your own back pocket designs and colours (cost a some extra $). Not to everyone's tastes but it's fun and interesting. :)

Overall, I think it's very worth it.
