Looks like the Delraisers lit up and I grabbed one.  You weren't kidding with a small batch.  Hopefully the sizes were consistent and accurate on the site.

We got a pretty good run of them at all of our stores and they just landed Thursday morning.  The measurements are all correct so you should be good!

could you give me sizing advice on the Iron Heart micro fleece shirt? I normally wear a size XL UHF — would I take the same size for the micro fleece? It would appear that some people are sizing down in this one which is why I’m asking. I’d want to wear it like my UHF’s with just a tshirt underneath, as opposed to wearing it like a shacket.

The micro-fleece shirts fit almost a full size larger than other IH flannels, but it's sort of supposed to be worn slightly oversized as opposed to the slim fit of their flannel shirts.  If you want a slim fit as you normally would wear in their flannels I would go a size down.

@kiya The sizing on the new shirts are very different between models. Any insight as to why? I assume order according to size charts, and not actual size label?

If you're referring to the new Flat Head shirts it's because there are three completely different models we just received.  The flannel workshirt style in 3 colors, the vintage Pendleton style in one color, and the indigo dobby shirts in short sleeve and long sleeve versions. Each style is made with a completely different pattern.

  4. Flat Head Winter Flannels and Indigo Dobby Shirts!

    FLAT HEAD IS BACK!!!!

Fuck we’re really excited about this one. After a year long hiatus while restructuring the company Nagano’s finest is back and we’re excited to have their flannels back in stock. They’ve made this new run of flannels exclusively for us without chin-straps because who really wants that stupid thing dangling off the end of a collar? We have two styles of flannels across four different colors in limited numbers as is the case with all Flat Head releases.

We also have a fresh run of their indigo rope-dyed dobby shirts in both short and long sleeve versions which come with custom painted metal Flat Head buttons.

All these items are available now at all stores and as usual with Flat Head, there will be no restocks.

Interesting stuff. I was curious how Denimio operates. It sounds like they're essentially a gray market dealer, no? Similar to a gray market watch dealer like Jomashop?

They're a unique store because it's a combination of a gray market dealer and a legit dealer (because they actually have some legit accounts with Oni, Momotari, etc..).  I don't know of a single other store in the world where they're an authorized dealer of brands plus they're selling back-doored product alongside those other brands.

^ I’ve seen that alleged a number of times in the past, and I’ve never really been sure how it fits in with their liberal return / exchange policy and their extremely fast shipping. Without keeping a decent amount of stock on hand, how is it that they can so consistently ship within hours of orders being placed? What do they do with returned goods from brands that they allegedly don’t keep in stock in the first place? How does it benefit them to buy from a middle man rather than direct from official distributors, given that their retail prices are generally in line with domestic RRP?

I don’t have a horse in the race one way or the other—most of my clothes come from the second-hand market—but the whole thing seems a little far fetched to me

It's all about volume, they move so many units that it doesn't matter if something comes back, they just add it back into their stock and hold onto it till somebody orders it again.  The reason they have to buy back-doored product from other retail stores is because many Japanese brands refuse to do business with them.

    Let's unpack this a bit.

Isn't the revolutionary aspect of capitalism precisely the act of aiming to undercut your competitors? This capitalist-ethic apologist stuff you speak of makes my head spin. Am I, as the consumer, supposed to spend extra money (sometimes as much as 30-40% more) just because it's ethical to support a business in my own country? Isn't purchasing from a domestic retailer sign enough of my support? What's more, I am invited by the retailer to justify away their higher costs as some second-order act of ethically sound solidarity? We live in a world of globalism. I am buying made in Japan jeans... from Japan. Denimio isn't the only business out there that sells stuff below SE's prices, and I can't imagine that every one of them is "shady".

My comment about them being "shady" wasn't connected to their business model of undercutting European and North American retailers.

They don't have dealer accounts with many of the brands they sell.  When you buy a Sugar Cane jean from Denimio they go and buy it from a Japanese retailer who is back-dooring the product at a discounted retail price (which is 100% against their sales contract with Toyo) and then Denimio is reselling that jean to the end-user who ordered it through their site.  They've got the products up on their site as if they're authorized dealers.  Trust me when I say that the heads of a company like Toyo are less than pleased about what Denimio is doing.

  8. 1 minute ago, Thanks_M8 said:

^^ same! Really wanted to try 'em out a few times, but something always came in the way anf now the site is just a pain in the arse. Really keen on the second hand market tbh. One man's trash and so on

Because the brand has been around for so long with the same models you can generally find barely worn pairs on eBay pretty regularly.

  9. 40 minutes ago, JMS said:

@Thanks_M8 Denimio is the way to go for most brands. The prices are usually the Japanese domestic price, with free shipping for purchases over ~$150 USD. Hard to beat so long as they stock what you're after!

Never had any problems with them, even when purchasing proxy items.

    Cheers.

Denimio is cool if you enjoy supporting a business with shady business practices who's sole purpose is to undercut retailers in Europe and North America.

  10. 1 hour ago, Thanks_M8 said:

^ got a point there. Problem is, customs and shipping are usually the same from the US and japan, from my experience at least.

It really depends on how the item is shipped.. private courier versus public express or priority yields three very different results.

  11. 1 hour ago, Thanks_M8 said:

^same here with german brick and mortar. 300€ for a pair of okinawas vs 150€ plus about 50€ shipping and taxes from PSA can't be beat. Plus many more choices.

If those numbers are correct then it would be cheaper to buy Sugar Cane from Self Edge if you're in Europe than it would be to buy from Japan.  If not cheaper than about the same price and at least you can return them for credit which I know most stores in Japan won't allow you to do. Just something to think about..

Nice to hear the Delraiser is coming back.  Are they keeping the same dimensions or did they update them?  The 40 fits me near perfect in their older models and I may pull the trigger this go around.

The new ones should be similar in fit from the last run from almost two years ago.  We'll have the new jackets measured and the size chart updated as soon as the new run arrives in a week or two.

  13. 1 hour ago, dwilson123 said:

Hey @kiya any idea if TFH will be releasing leather jackets you guys will stock?  Or any plans to expand brands of leather jackets you guys stock?

Yes, they're actually doing a small run of Shinki horsehide Delraiser jackets which release March 22nd.
No plans to carry expand our leather jacket lines as we already carry almost 20 different leather jackets, which is quite a large selection for a retail store.

  14. 4 hours ago, julian-wolf said:

@kiya, is it still seeming likely that the new TFH shirts will be in by tomorrow? Thinking of trying to stop by the SF store  in the afternoon

(If not, I probably won’t be able to make it in to the city until next week—think I should be worried about them selling out before then?)

All stores except SESF have received the shipment, but SF's (hopefully) may arrive tomorrow at some point.  You can call the store before you're ready to head over to check if you'd like.

  15. Iron Heart Flannels, Jeans, Wallets, and Keyrings!

We've got a big delivery from Iron Heart this week with two new shirts, a restock of two of their most popular versions of the 777 slim tapered jean, shell cordovan wallets in multiple styles and colors, and brass keyrings in two styles.

Their new flannel is made of a custom 9oz selvedge ombre check which is indigo dyed. These are good for year round wear and the pattern will change over time with regular wear and washing as the indigo slowly fades away. The new micro-fleece shirt may be the coziest shirt ever made by Iron Heart. These things are super comfortable, warm, and are built to last from the buttons to the inner twill-lined heavy wear areas.

Along with these two new shirts we've got new production runs of their cordovan wallets, 777 slim taped jeans in overdyed black and black warp/black weft styles, and brass keyhooks in two styles.  All these items are available now at all stores.

  16. Flat Head Engineer Boots, Wild Child Wallets, & Feather Rings

Flat Head is back!  The first delivery is a fresh batch of their engineer boots, Wild Child wallets, and sterling silver feather rings. Next week we'll have some of their shirts, most of which were made exclusively for our five stores.

Flat Head makes the ultimate engineer boot, made in small batches by a small shop which generally only produces boots for Flat Head's line of footwear. Made of a natural pull-up Chromexcel leather, the amount of natural oil in this leather is unreal due to the aniline "dying" process the leather goes through. This run was custom made for Flat Head so that the boot will show a little extra wear from even occasional wear. These will look wild once broken in. These come complete with custom made brass and iron buckles, Vibram's #700 and #705 heel and sole, a hand stitched shaft seam, and a Japanese made steel shank for sole stability.  These are now available in a larger size range than the first run.

We’ve also received a fresh run of Flat Head’s Wild Child wallets. Over the years this has turned into the most sought after wallet we carry. They’re super functional, age like nothing else you’ve seen, and last a lifetime. These are made of Shinki shell cordovan, cowhide, have an inner pigskin lining, and come with a sterling silver ring. Available now in tan or black.

In addition to the boots and wallets we also have a restock of their .925 sterling silver feather rings. All these items can now be found across all our stores.

  17. Rick Owens 18oz Lacquered Denim Ramones

We’re excited to announced that we’re adding Rick Owens’ footwear line to the Made in Japan denim collection which we’ve been stocking for the past few seasons. We now have the Ramone high-top sneaker made out of an 18oz lacquered denim. This starts out as an 18oz heavyweight Japanese denim that’s lightly clear lacquered, you can still see the denim weave pattern right through the lacquer and over time the lacquer will come off to reveal the black denim base.

You can find these now in limited numbers at our stores.

Down By Law is great too.  John Lurie is too cool

John Lurie is a true underground cultural god.  From Jarmusch's films in the 80's to Fishing with John in the 90's to his paintings in the 00's to Painting with John (on HBO) that just came out last month, he's got an amazing mind.  One of my favorite artists of all time.

Ah thts is interesting to hear. Haven't seen any info about them changing the Pioneer denim. Do you happen to know what is different?

It's less hairy, not as rigid, and not as dark.  If you want my honest opinion.. they changed the three things which made their denim so amazing.

Will there be a short sleeve Flat Head linen shirt?

Yup, short sleeve and long sleeve, both workshirts, we expect those to sell wild fast.

Excited for the indigo linen shirts

Do you know whether they'll be cut the same as previous runs? It's seemed like TFH has made some significant changes to their shirt patterns, in general, over the last few years, & I'm still trying to dial in what works and what doesn't

As usual, we won't know exactly the fit or measurements until the production run is finished and has landed at our stores.  We should have these at our SF store by march 10th if you'd like to come in to try them on.

Any new jeans or restocks? Itching for another pair of Flathead jeans...

No, no new jeans from Flat Head for quite some time.  They've changed the denim on their core jeans and it's not the same denim they were making in the past.  We've passed on the jeans for now until we see what else they're going to come up with.

  21. 1 hour ago, 1fookntitefd said:

Will Self Edge be restocking any Flathead products or have new products from them in the near future?

All stores are getting new runs of wallets, rings, and engineer boots tomorrow actually.  New shirts start landing at all stores in 2 weeks, we've got flannels, indigo-dyed linen shirts, and more.  Assuming most of this stuff will sell out extremely fast in case you really want something from their new collection.

    Cheers Kiya

Always great stuff on your site.

Here’s a suggestion or a request. I am 6’3”. I absolutely love the looks of these PBJ Rough jeans you just posted and the IH633s above them. But with only 10-11” of front rise I cannot cover even half of the equipment I am legally required to cover to be able to present myself in public. And the CDC has warned of potential damage from long term exposure to and wearing of fashionable Eunuch-wear to two particularly sensitive aspects of my reproductive arsenal.  You may have no way of knowing this, but I assure you that ladies rise jeans are painful for big guys. Is there anyway SE can make a special edition “Gaijin Man’s” jean with awesome Japanese denim with a manly rise of say, 14 inches?!

And, your site is excellent and complete in every way. Congratulations. But would it be possible for you to show the products you are selling? I mean could you imagine photos with your models either without shirts, or with the shirts tucked in so prospective buyers can see the jeans you want to sell: the jeans, all the jeans and nothing but the jeans? Why the cover up? If you are selling trips to Paris would you only show half the Tour Eiffel?

I would love to become a customer of yours!

Hey there, regarding the rise on the PBJ jeans.. we don't actually have any say on the fit of a pair of jeans made by the brands we carry unless it's a model made specifically for our stores.  We've done custom fits with most brands we carry but haven't done one with PBJ just yet.  If and when that time comes it's something we'll consider!

Regarding covering up the top portion of the jeans, we'd rather show you what the jeans will look like with an outfit (t-shirt, shirt, etc..) than show what the jeans will look like when you're not wearing a shirt or with a tucked in shirt, two things most of our clients don't actually do when wearing the jeans.

  23. Pure Blue Japan SR-013 Super Rough Jeans

Pure Blue Japan's SR-013 Super Rough denim jeans are here. This is the most impressive fabric we've seen from PBJ in quite some time. This 18oz denim is woven at a very low tension with a super short staple cotton, giving the fabric extreme character. These feel and look amazing even when new and are sure to look insane with some wear.
