  1. I get the impression that the stuff that LVC is putting out today isn't as good as some of the imitators.

    Is that the case?

Are there companies that make a better reproduction version of the 1947 501 than Levi's itself?

Sugar Cane seems good, but all I can base that on is internet pictures and hearsay.

  2. I wish APC would just put the size measurements up on their website icon_smile_angry.gif

There is so much confusion when it comes to sizing...

Do you go 3 sizes down for rescues, true to size for the new standards, but 3 sizes down for the old standards???!!! It's so damn confusing!

I've read the 30 page APC thread, but there seems to be so much variabilty and uncertainty in the sizing.

Obviously the easy solution would be to try them on in person beforehand, but I don't live near an APC retailer.

    Here's my question(s)...

What are the leg openings for the raw New Standards and Rescues?

I'm pretty sure you are supposed to go 3 sizes down for Rescues, but now you aren't supposed to do that with new standards?

DAMN YOU CRAZY APC SIZING, DAMN YOU!

  3. Mighty Healthy makes the 'Mad People' shirt.

Those are the only two online retailers that I know of with the shirt. They're may be more though. I know DQM carried the shirt at one point, but that was months ago.

BTW, I found that their shirts run slightly bigger than usual, but that could just be because I'm not a well proportioned human.

Does anyone know what brand MH prints their shirts on?

  4. Quote: skinners?

Good call. I'm not into bootcut jeans at all, so I wasn't really thinking about those. Plus it's late, and my brain isn't functioning so well.

There are also a pair of "premium" 501's that are labeled as "raw" on their website. Not sure if these are unwashed or not, or if they just called them raw to distinguish them from the rigid 501's with the pattern on the inside.

If the raw 501's are indeed unwashed, I wonder what makes them so premium compared to STF's. Selvage?

  5. Quote: is there an easy way to tell if they are "raw/untreated" besides just looking at them? im pretty new to levi's (never really looked that closely to all the different types :o) and just wanted something to i guess practice on before getting something more expensive

Well, if you are able to see them in person (at a store or something), you'll notice the denim is noticeably stiffer and rigid (hence the name).

Levi's calls there unwashed denim "rigid", so if you see any Levi's jeans that are labeled as rigid, then they are unwashed.

Aside from these 517's and the STF 501's, I don't know of any other rigid Levi's (from their regular collection).

  6. On the tag that comes with Rogans it says that they "age quickly." Is this just a euphemism for "will fall apart"?

I'm apprehensive about wearing them if they aren't going to last long. I don't want to have to be fearful my jeans are going to be ruined if I'm too rough on them.

Anyone have experience with the longevity of Rogans?

What precautions (if any) should I take to make sure they don't die on me?

I almost want to just get rid of them and get a more durable pair of jeans, but they are pretty damn comfortable.

  7. If the STF 501's look crappy after they are washed then what's the point of buying them as opposed to pre-washed 501's?

It seems like if you never wash the STF 501's you'll get decent creasing, but what good is that if you can't wash them to bring out the contrast?

Eh, whatever. I'll go ahead and wash them anyways. If they come out looking crappy, I'll just use them as beaters...they're only $30 anyways.

  8. Quote: if you just want below the knee taken in (ie. to change some nasty bootcuts to straight or tapered), then you can sew on either in or out seam.. - whichever one is a standard fold seam..

That's good to know. I hate bootcut jeans, and I was afraid altering bootcut to straight leg would make the jeans look weird.

    Thanks.

  9. I'm not sure the policy on selling stuff, but I didn't see a Buy/Sell forum.

Anyways, I'm selling these Rogan Tragic jeans that I bought on ebay a few weeks ago. They are a little too big for me, so I don't want them anymore.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11483&item=7704215463

I wore them 2 times, and haven't washed them yet.

The price is $100 plus $8 for shipping.

If you need the actual pics, I can take a few, but all I have is a camera phone right now.

E-mail [email protected] if you want them.
