  1. Sweet thanks for the info.

What would you do NYE if your just by yourself (like do i need tickets for shit or just rock up somewhere)?

i have only just got back to wellington after a long long time living elsewhere. so i am not sure what is up NYE.

by all accounts the city is different from the other cities in nz in that not everyone is at the beach. there is stuff on but i have no experience of getting in places so sorry can't be of more help.

  2. shops

gold as gold ruben has eclectic buying habits for the store, they often break new brands, which you will find mixed in cheaper basics. the closest in style elsewhere i can think was american rag san francisco [RIP], they have just had a sale store which had all sorts of goodies from vibskov and perhaps even some complex geometries

wakefield hotel. stock iron heart and three sixteen, they have a huge selection of onitsuka tigers, vans, and most interestingly for this part of the world pf flyers. hemi is passionate and knows his stuff. whenever i get ideas about questioning him about the tigers and being a metro sexual menswear store, i remember that he used to be a pro rugby player and is now a a brown belt in bjj.

zambesi has a big store on customhouse quay with the usual selection of nz and imported goth inspired goodness. and the usual girls who are sexy and dress good as staff.

for coffee and cafes it is all about cuba street, midnight espresso fidels ernestos are all amazing, there is a great selection of food all along the top end of cuba street. interesting is that there are arguments in coffee circles about who invented the flat white, between dkd's in auckland and midnight espresso here. dkd's is long gone, while midnight espresso is still here and the owner is still sourcing his own cuban beans.

if museums are your thing te papa along the waterfront is good and the city gallery in civic square has nicely curated shows.

the main bar strip is courtney place and like no where else i have been in the world you will find a mix of people in most places, my favourite for this is the garden bar on dixon street, the downstairs is a venue for shows and the third floor is a gay/trannie bar, the second level is a semi indoor smoking area, and bar which always creates a crazy mix.

good luck bar at the top of cuba mall is modeled after an opium den and has an amazing selection of top shelf, plus kirin on tap.

the eastern suburbs past the airport are crazy in that almost every semi industrial space is film industry, peter jackson owns most of mirimar now, and his film company is based in an old naval base around towards seatoun. weta workshops and digital are based all through there , there is the weta cave if you want to check out some of their stuff.

wellington is small [around 400 000] though because some of the biggest films in the world are made from here [lord of the rings, avatar, king kong, the hobbit] there is a lot more going on than you could reasonably expect.

  3. i have been collecting vintage nikkor glass, and the old ai lenses do not meter with my d40.

just got an amazingly sharp 180mm 2.8 ED [crops to 270mm] and was offered a 28mm 2.0 ED which would be sharper and a better walk around than my 35mm 2.0.

thinking it is time to upgrade my body to a d7000 so i at least get metering. the old nikkor glass is cheap and amazing if you can deal with manual focus

  4. starting work on a chest piece in janurary with ben grover, getting the clown of the mountains, the feathered wolf in lieu of the ubiquitous and traditionally american eagle.

there are so many good polynesian artists here that i daily see 'sick tribal' tats that have a deeper resonance than they do outside of polynesia, of course there are also 'party bros' with what seem like meaningless and nondescript tribal work, as you would see in the states of other places without a big polynesian population.

the idea behind my chest piece is to flip that cultural exchange around and take a traditional american style and placement and tell a story specific to aotearoa.

  5. Hap....those look GOOD. now I'm even more pumped to order my pair.

hows the waist on those for you? really snug or just perfect?

    cheers.

the waist is slightly snug it was a short wear [like 5 minutes] until i could do the top button super comfortable after half a day of wear.

the ironheart indigo is so much softer than the super black of the 9301.

  6. it looks like the beatle busters turned up at wakefield hotel before anywhere else i went to see my friend hemi yesterday and walked out with these.

i got my true size 30 in these after sizing down two to 28 for the 9301. after some time in the flathead 3001 tour jeans a few months back i liked the idea of bigger jeans. besides i don't know if it all the home cooking or that i am getting older but i couldn't bring myself to suffer the mashed nuts and bruises of sizing down.

for those of you who talk about swag...you haven't seen nothing until you have seen schnieder...cigarettes in sleeve six of beer chatting up the solo mum...swag in a watered down american tv kind of way...fonzie has nothing on him....

swag that is so watered down by the conservative atmosphere and advertisers needs that it isn't swag at all...

    actually forget i said anything

  8. gt5 all day everyday.

the most fun and exciting addition to the series is the go cart racing,

some of the cars for winning series gold are fantastic the buick '64 hot rod has crazy power and not as bricky as the other muscle cars. the race tuned red celica sticks to the road like a magnet.

seriously fuck the vitz cup having to spend money to tune your car from 84 bhp up to the 132 bhp or so the competitors have and then have to drive the thing.

and damn if i am not obsessed with getting the perfect line through the slow downhill series of corners of eiger nordwand, cutting the corner on the chicane [without hitting the wall] at monza to beat a car with a power advantage.

haven't played since gt3 and i forgot how satisfying it was when you get things right.

  9. i always like how every time there is a changing of the guard in waywt there are always users from an earlier time stating that it used to be better before. this has been true as long as any community has existed and is in no way limited to supertalk or indeed any message board.

there have been posters that i personally enjoyed looking at fit pics from since i first discovered supertalk, whether it be something about the outfit that i find inspiring or the way that they have chosen to show it through the pic.

this is still the case, mostly know i enjoy seeing how the pics are taken, if i am to roll call some guys who pushed the boundaries with that it would start with soulistic and his ultra clean pics when he was modeling on a staircase. both selective beef and xcoalesex for taking awesome nighttime shots. in the current crop of posters tvshooters awesome videos for the tour threads and back to beatle when she started doing storyline videos years earlier. almost nice for his workshop photos putting the work wear fits into context...honestly though the list goes on and on.

the what are your jeans doing today and the what are you eating today threads threads have put the places we are come from into sharper focus which seems incredibly relevant in a board that at least from the owner's perspective has always been about travel and shopping.

the tastes and the mood of any community will change over time, whether this change is good or bad is a matter of opinion.

it is however a mistake thinking that your opinion is more correct, style is after all relative, and the language of mens fashion fluid. this is perhaps why we have so many message boards dedicated to discussing it.

  10. i have had a few big break ups.

the first was when i was 19 i had lived with the girl for a year we had been together around a year and a half. we had been living at my mum's place then moved into a flat. she started spending all her time with our flatmate who was a good friend of mine. it was weird but really i just hung out with my friends. one day she came home and i confronted her about anything going on. she said no but it was time to break up, i was devastated. a week later they were together.

i spent my time making new friends and writing songs/started a band. at the time it hurt. thinking back my life just got a whole lot better/more interesting. i was single for the longest period of my adult life and was so interested in my work at drama school and playing music that i got a lot done. wasn't really interested in anyone else until i met my next girlfriend almost a year later.
