  1. Not sure if it means anything, but my jeans were not marked "dry clean only" but rather "always wash separately". I'd imagine treated jeans, such as the waxed ones or other dyes, may be dry clean only.

At any rate, the raw ones are 100% cotton with no special treatment, so I washed them to get the sizing "settled in".

  2. I picked up a pair on ebay that were ID'd as being from S/S '03 (edit: ID'd thanks to Fade to Black). Raw, Japanese denim.

Measurements for a pair tagged 48 were:

    Waist - 17.5"

    Rise - 10.5"

    Inseam - 39"

    Leg - 8.5"

    Measurements after a warm/cold wash:

    Waist - 17"

    Rise - 10.25"

    Inseam 37.5"

    Leg 8.5"

I washed them right off the bat since I didn't want an extra pair of pants bunched at the calfs and had every intention to get them altered. I'm normally a 31" inseam in trousers with no break.

They fit frigging awesome btw. I am normally a 31" (waist) in mostly everything else... and these ones definitely sit low on my hips. I'll post pics when I get them back from the tailors.

  3. Tyler...

Nothing wrong with skull rings if it reflects your style. My experience has been that it is more representative of one's musical taste... unless you really do like skulls and dead people. I've sported multiple silver rings... skulls included... but this was 18 years ago when I was really into Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, etc.

At the end of the day, if you have to think too hard about it, it may not be your thing. Just my opinion. Also... skull rings are so common that I can't imagine anyone would want to spend more than $30 on one.

  4. Been trying to track one down myself. Colette in Paris doesn't have them and the site said something about 'limited'... so I don't know that they're even around anymore.

Let me know if you find them.

  5. I dunno... I can justify spending more on stuff that I will wear more frequently. Pants and shoes are usually no-brainers for me... jeans especially. What are you really paying for when you drop $250 on jeans, $600 on boots, $1,200 on a coat? You're probably paying mostly for name, almost just as much for quality & materials, and the least of all, style... which is so subjective. I don't know anyone other than myself that can justify how much I paid for for clothes. My wife certainly doesn't support my expensive shopping habit.

Would I pay $500 for jeans? Probably never... but 5 years ago I never though I'd pay over $500 for a wool sweater... or over $300 for wool trousers... so who knows? Plus, if you have the money, who's to say how much is too much for anything? I can shake my head at rich old men that buy exotic cars and never drive them to their full potential... but that's their prerogative. Who am I to judge? And I think that's what people were responding to when you passed judgement by saying "I suggested there was something inherently fucked up about spending several hundred dollars on jeans". So... really... you're saying people are fucked up for spending that kind of money on jeans? Some people spend that much on a bottle of wine... WHO GIVES A SHIT?

  6. Verb (or anyone with direct experience),

    Looking for your input.

Most jeans I see on ebay will have stitching all the way around the black leather tag... like the ones in this listing: http://tinyurl.com/a98md

I bid on and received a pair raw jeans (the ones I asked about earlier) from a 'kdog0479' (http://tinyurl.com/8ah9z for his other listings). The jeans had a black leather tag without the perimeter stitching... like the pair in this listing: http://tinyurl.com/d53y8 Everything else looks perfect on the jeans - the metal 'loop', the 'scars', the other tags.

Have you (or anyone else) seen a pair that came from a DH store (or a known authentice source) where the tag did not feature the stitching all the way around? It looks as though kdog and this other seller (who has listed a fair amount of real Cloak stuff) received some of the raw jeans at the same time... presumably from Europe since the jeans are tagged in EU sizes. I'm guessing there was a surplus from a previous season that these guys got their hands on. Also, the size tag (48) is next to the care tag, rather than by the black leather tag on many of the jeans featured on Ebay. Once again, perhaps the difference between US sold jeans and EU sold ones?

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

  7. Verb,

Thanks for the fake spotting tips. You pretty much see everyone highlight the first two in their auctions and have myself seen them on an authentic pair, but it's good to know that fakes are missing these attributes.

Would it be safe to say that authentic DH jeans only come with a tagged US size (i.e. 28 to 36", etc) vs a European size (46 to 54, etc)?

    Thanks in advance.

  8. Verb,

Hoping you can help me out here...

Should I be worried if someone (on ebay) is quoting me a pair of '04 raw jeans in european sizing (48) rather than US sizing (30") for jeans? Is there a lot of fake DH denim floating around?

Here's his response (in not so good English):

"hi i got the jeans, thry are a size 48 3eh10181018176 and 8276 these are longer leg the leg on short is 19.5 cm or 7.5 inches waist 16.7 inches laying flat. 2)8276 are 21cm wide, and waist 16.7 and will shrink 1.5 and leg 2 let me know witch one you want"

  9. tm1210,

The thighs were pretty tight in the 30's at first... particularly since they were so stiff and unbroken in. Now they're fine. They're a little tight when I squat but that's about it.

I've posted this pic before (and some think the crease in my crotch is a sign of camel toe... but no, I don't hike my jeans up) so you may have seen it... but these are my RRDS at 1 month, 30x34". I'm at 3 months now so it's a totally different ballgame... in fit and look as well... but I think you can tell that there's enough room in the thigh after 1 month.

  10. The nice answer is to go down a size from what you normally buy, since they will stretch. So if buy a 35" if you normally wear a 36" in trousers or other mainstream jeans. They don't make a 35" though, so you've got a decision to make. I bought a 30" when I'm normally a 31"... and this year I've been a slightly bigger 31", but the 30's stretched out just fine and now I can fit my hands into the waistband easily, so 34" may work for you.

The not so nice answer you'll probably get from others is "do a $&@^@#^%(* search, this has been posted 2435717 times".

    Hope this helps.

  11. I can't speak to the quality of their jeans, but I can say the quality of their other garments is very disappointing.

I ordered some stuff online, sight unseen mind you, with the intention of returning it if I did not like the fit. Well, it was more than just fit that I didn't like. I ordered the Military-Style Winter Jacket ($364), the shorn velvet belt, and one of their neckties (polyester). The jacket just felt cheap. Really cheap. Worse than Old Navy cheap. It's 74% cotton and 26% polyamide... so I understand there's some synthetic (nylon) fabric in it... but that doesn't explain why the overall feel was so terrible.

I had intended to stop in the store on a trip up to NYC, but I wasn't able to make it... so I went out on a limb and bought these items online. I ended up keeping the belt and the tie since they're inexpensive enough... but the jacket was total crap. My wife also commented that the belt looked like something you'd get as part of a cheap Halloween costume.

So long story short, my experience has led me to conclude that APC isn't for me... jeans or otherwise.
