  1. this particular seller has sold a number of these jeans recently

i'm pretty certain that they're legit...however, i'm even a bit more certain that they are NOT from the valencia factory.

in his description he states that the valencia factory was closed in 2003, which to my knowledge is not true...it closed down sometime in 2002.

also, i had inquired about a previous pair he had up for auction, and he told me that the top button was stamped 'R' which would indicate that they were produced by a non-Levi factory in the US under contract with LVC

so...if you're just interested in a pair of LVC, I'd say go for it...but if you're looking for a pair produced at the valencia st. factory, i'd be cautious

    hope this helps

  2. I used to live in NYC, but I now live out in the hills...so I do my shopping via the phone. I order from either the Levi Flagship in SF or Selvedge in NYC (a Levi store as well). Both carry LVC, Red and Premium lines. I know the other Levi stores in NYC carry some of the LVC stuff, but Selvedge is the best bet.

Other than that, I know Barney's carries some things as well, along with some other stores in Cali. If you contact Levi, they'll give you a list of stores.

  3. this is from someone who works at the flagship in SF...

The Collection however, is themed, "the Velvet Curtain featuring the 1930's product. It is quite extensive and includes: 1879 501"xx", 1930's 501"Heath", 1933 501 "Calloway", 1930's trouser(deadstock), 1947 501 "charlie"(very cool finish!!) and 1947 deadstock, 1967 606 jean" jack".1971 646 deadstock and "fred" jeans and a number of jackets and t's.

Unfortunately there is no sweatshirt featured in the new collection. There is a 1930's leather jacket, washable wool button up shirt and a 1975 trucker jacket.

feel free to add comments, pics, etc. if you have them

  4. I won this sweat on ebay, and the only thing wrong with it is the 'damage' in the front neck area. I really don't mind it all that much, but I'm afraid it will continue to rip if I don't do something about it.

Does anyone have suggestions on how I can repair/reinforce the cut-out area? Would a tailor be able to do something with it?

here's a link to the item...

    Thanks

  5. i have two pairs from the valencia st. factory, and the selvedge on one side of each pair is flat while the other side is folded...i've tried ironing them down, but to no avail.

all the rest of my '47's are 554's and they have a nice flat selvedge...also, i have noticed that the selvedge on the 554's is a bit wider than the 555's.

i saw a pair of the 'new' '47s on ebay a couple weeks ago. the guy selling them worked at the store in SF and said that they're part of the upcoming fall line, and for some reason they recieved an early shipment. i'm interested in seeing them, but i have a feeling that they won't be as nice as what levi produced...

he provided details on the rest of the collection...it sounds pretty nice...1930s theme, but said that a small number of the jeans were all that they received...the rest will be out in aug. as usual...he was supposed to send me scans of the new collection, but he never got back to me

  6. i was thinking the same thing. i don't think i can bring myself to it though...especially since i'll never be able to buy levi-made 47's anymore. that means something to me for some reason.

plus, the future of lvc always seems to be hanging by a thread

i'm just hoping that i don't hit a growth spurt or ever get any fatter...if not, i should be set for life in the jeans dept.

  7. I've noticed that recently-produced 1947 501's are going for well over $200 on ebay. They are ones produced by 2nd-party manuf. here in the US after Levi shut down its final plants.

I would have expected the ones actually produced by Levi (even the ones produced in TX after the Valencia St. factory closed) to be worth more.

Am I missing something here? Does anyone know why they're fetching $50 over retail?

  8. i really like the 1940s repros LVC has done in the US for the past two seasons.

i have the black 'felix the cat' and the plain white ones...and i wear the crap out of them

i think they're much nicer than the repros LVC has done in the past...i like the fabric and construction, as well as the cut...plus they're made in the USA

  9. looks like red wing has produced a 'heritage' boot for sale here in the US to celibrate their 100th anniversary. it's called the '1905' and i think they look really nice. i think such styles are harder to come by here in the states than in europe or japan.

  10. Does anyone know the approx. era these different shirts were produced? I have a couple of both types and just wondered if one type was older than the other. I wrote Levi, provided them with a number of pictures, and the historian just told me that all were produced between the 1940s and 1960s...something I was already aware of.

    Can anyone be more specific?

I also have a type that I've never seen before or since I bought it on ebay. It's a heavier cotton fabric with various bright colors in a plaid design and metallic snaps with a crazy star design. The tag is short horn and says "LEVI'S Authentic DENIM Western Wear"...like the ones found on the denim sawtooth shirts.

I have pictures on my computer, but I don't know how to post them on this board.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

  11. does anyone in the US produce sweatshirts and/or t-shirts using vintage construction?

i know LVC does really nice reproductions, but they've stopped doing sweatshirts and i have most of the t's they've produced over the past couple years

  12. are you referring to the upcoming LVC collection for the US or Europe?

They have been completely different for the past two seasons...does anyone know if this is going to continue?

The info that was given to me was from someone here in the States, so I'm assuming he was talking about the US collection.
