... the the TCB pics are one pre-wash, and a couple from what I think was the first major machine wash this weekend.

We have had the most beautiful series of autumn mornings in London. And the odd one with torrential rain. Today, happily, it's one of the former. The black pooch is our cocker spaniel - an old breed, good at retrieving game, especially woodcock. The other one, my friend's, is a wire haired fox terrier, bred to root out foxes from their lairs I guess.

Lovely stuff!

those Japanese 1937 are almost certainly Cone if it's 2006. I have a Japanese catalogue from 2001 or so that I've posted on here before. I can't remember if they badged all their 'own' production as LVC, I thought they did but if so I'm wrong. When I can face trawling thru all my old photobucket pages I'll try and look it out.

They are Cone. Most of the post 1997-ish Japanese Levi's were, with the exception of some Sanforized versions. Some earlier ones used Kaihara.

Looks lovely.
I liked that jacket so much I hardly wore it. The only time I washed it was to remove the Radiohead 1997 Glastonbury mud before I sent it to you. Hope you have many happy times in it.1 -
I don't think I know now re years; I did have some documents with the specs that I perhaps didn't even copy. There was quite a lot of secrecy. It's very likely indeed there was a mix, and remember Cone had wide shuttle looms too which would have only produced 'half' the selvage edge. I wonder if some of those jeans are ring/ring as opposed to the ring/OE to which they moved in 83 (without really telling anyone).

Any of the fans of Conners Sewing Factory would love the '653' 501s as they have wonky stitching and loose threads a go go, definitely a different attitude to quality control than the other factories at the time.
Bit of a long post but there you go, ever since the demise of Cone I've gotten a little bit more OCD on all things Levi's.
this is great stuff, thanks.
I interviewed the guy who helped oversee the patterns for the Scottish jeans from 1983. They were trying to put some sort of overall pattern on countless inconsistent details: for instance, from the immediately previous jeans were all over the place, different shaped pockets in different sizes, or across different factories. He also tended to know which of the factories tended to use particular colour stitching, as that was all over the place too.
I love the thought of those different factories with their different aesthetic, especially now you've personalised it with the story of the rock'n'roll, out-there 653 mob.

Maybe we should move on?

It's interesting how some folk are using super springy, fluffy fabric for a Type 3. I actually really like the flatness of the original, Sanforized denim. I swapped a sawtooth shirt and almost unwashed Type 3 with Erk... the fabric on the latter is fantastic - but very smooth. Unfortunately I didn't have decent photos, hopefully he'll post them soonish.
Here's a cuff detail from the one above.4 -
the traumas we've all faced and survived, it's miraculous really.

those are the 201 btw. My guess is that those are some of the early synthetic indigo.
I'm looking forward to when my box of jeans is all worn out and I return to my LVC 201, will probably take about 3 years before they start to look a little worn-in1 -

When did we start with the new batch?

your dog clearly doesn't approve the black leather jacket and brown shoes matching!
After I find the new sign-in, I need to locate the 'neg' button.

Sorry to Volvo specially for being a bit rubbish and not loading photos from, eg, Roma. I'm out of disk space on my laptop, so I tend to download travel pix on to our desktop, and of course I've forgotten my Sufu password so I can't access the thread from there. Yes, just a roundabout way of admitting I'm useless.
Anyways, yesterday we took off for the coast, Whitstable, which I've probably posted here before. One pic is of the oyster beds - which are a key reason for visiting this little town. On the way home we took a slightly different route, looking for a legendary apple orchard (!) which was unfortunately closed. But on the way I saw this cool church made of corrugated iron. I'm sure I've read about these before, sometimes they were flat-pack churches for communities that had built up suddenly; in a couple of other locations they were assembled hurriedly to replace buildings that had burnt out.
Then this morning was the usual dog walk up in Greenwich Park. Tourists are out early; it's nice seeing them here in the autumn, as it must be such a brilliant time to visit. (Even though you can see the haze of pollution, I guess, which we have most days, just like back in China). The classical building is The Queens House, built for Anne of Denmark (did she inspire John Grant?), builts circa 1605, obviously influenced by Palladio, and a very influential building in Georgian architecture.

The Valencia Street items are often a bit funkier too; the fabrics are often not standardised and there are more errors, which gives them a unique feel. I was lucky enough to visit the factory when they were producing a forerunner to LVC, namely the Capital E reissue. Although the building was quite big, the production floor was really small.
I sold my 1955 55 to pay for a guitar restoration. They were terrific jeans - if you look at the photo you can see details like, for instance, messy stitching on the watch pocket and the yoke is incorrectly assembled. I've worn a good number of 555 in, doubt really there'd be much difference after the first couple of washes, but of course there's a magic to the fact they were sewn in the factory that produced them for the last century. It was a crime to close that building.17 -

sorry, they're 32-32.
How much do you think they'd be worth? I just had a $450 service bill for my Heuer Carrera so drastic clearout might be advisable.0 -
Aw, so sad to hear we're losing the 1108. Such a classic design.
Here's a little interview about them. Mikiharu describes them as a 60s shape with 40s detailing.

I am having a drastic clearout here and was planning on eBaying these. Now I'm conflicted. Hmmm.11

thanks for the kind words. I can't find the actual catalogue... which means I can't check if they use the LVC branding in Japan. Anyways, here are some of the others.
SOrry, the software has scramled the order but these are the early ones. Note the '702'... I can't remember the actual story but I think this is a mythical 30s pair,
