  1. i personally love my oni shaois. the fit is perfect for me. I'd consider getting the eternals if i didn't have my shaois, but c'mon, you just spent $550 on a pair of streaky jeans, do you really have enough time to wear another pair? The natural indigo will take long enough to break in where i don't think i'll even consider a pair of jeans for at LEAST 1 year.

seriously poly, you're in the same boat as i am. beyond salvage. we are slaves to selvage...

  2. John - thats a great collection, having both the oni shoai and the natural pbj is very indulgent!!! Those pics really make my heart ache for the PBJs, its nice to see so many superjeans side by side so you can get an idea of the different colours.

Your oni blues are pretty well worn, very nice, can you tell me, does the fabric maintain its slubbyness? I know the fades will be uneven but with my PBJs the surface isnt quite as bumpy and has smoothed out what stretching and abraision, especially on the thighs and seat. Have your onis smoothed out any? Or did the wash bring the texture back?

    thanks for the comments.

viv, having both naturals is a bit of a sin isn't it. having 8 pairs IS a sin!

the oni blues has retained its slubbiness and in fact is more pronounced. the bumpiness of the denim has caused fades only on the threads that are protruding giving it a 3d effect. more than anything, the wash only made the contrasts better and the fabric softer, making it more comfortable to wear. also, i don;t think the creases and honeycombs will straighten out even after many washes. actually tempted to give it another one...

  3. i'm thinking about a pair of real mccoy's but i've signed up in the "no more denim" thread...till the end of the year that is. otherwise, a pair of real mccoy's could do my collection well...

  4. I really hope that I've achieved maximum shrinkage on my purples. The inseam is perfect at 33.5". It's not like the Blue Oni that touches the ground when I walk.

I'm also experiencing some fading this early....

  5. thanks poly. i really would've been more enthusiastic w/ the pbj ai-001 if they were raw. one wash doesn't really make it rigid enough to develop creases immediately. these onis on the other hand, are crazily forming to my body and just might see more fading soon considering they are made of natural indigo. been working on the edo ai's and they're just tough to crack.

  6. FIT report: the purples are stretching to fit my body. similar to how the blues were when i was breaking them in.

This pair is getting better as I wear them. It's still pretty rigid and are developing creases and even a bit contrasts already at this early stage. Makes you want to work on it more. So, the Edo Ai's encountering competition and seems like it'll take time before that pair will be ready for a wash.

In the meantime, the Oni Shaoi is THE PAIR OF JEANS for this year. Simply the best.

  7. you broke me john!, upon reading this thread i had to take off my contest samurais and put on my oni's to make sure the creases wouldn't straighten out. I hate you demon oni!!!

you know you got some oni lovin'....even if the dye is dark and thick, i can see this developing fades easily (easier than the edo ai's and the ai-001s). i really can';t get enough of it. it's the best denim puchase for me. Ever.

  8. i'm forcing myself to stay away from these.....put them on the hanger as opposed to the floor..MUST NOT WEAR!!!

why is that poly? losing concentration on your samurai contest jeans? hehe

i can't get enough of em. it just keeps getting better. i didn't experience this when i got my ai-001's. although they have similare fabric, raw natural indigo just takes the cake. the rigidness really gives more defined creases.
