for cheap and look good....Levis 514 slim straight. very low rise, very slim straight leg....$40, avail in washed black, oil wash dark indigo and heavy washed light blue. have a pair of the dark indigo and they get a thumbs up
Nudie super slim kim, slim jim, slim finn (not yet avail) or bootcut ola....depending on how slim you want em. i have the Ola which is pretty slim, i tried on the slim jim which is about the same but a different leg....never seen the Kims but i cant see how i'd ever fit into those if they are even skinnier
arent Julian Red Californias supposed to be skinny as well?
the Pace slims look pretty nice too...but maybe not simple enough with its embroidery pattern

Banana Republic had a one-wash selvedge redline jean a couple years ago....i picked up a pair on sale for $25 ($100 retail)...not bad, too full legged so i dont wear em anymore
wouldnt be surprised if they came back next fall

my ralfs are 32....i have a pair of bootcut olas in a 33
i tried slim jim in my size (32) and they fit good but are very fitted/tight....i'd say get the same size as ralf, also knowing they will stretch out a bit over a short time

some magazine i was looking at seemed to indicated black/grey denim being the other 'in' item this fall so it might be easy to find more black jeans in a few months

no, he isnt in the 21st century as far as any web presence. i know he ships his belts to various vintage stores in other states (AZ that i know of 100%)

i dont know about ebay but if you have a good vintage store that deals in 50s rockabilly gear, they arent too hard to find. on ebay try "motorcycle studded belt" in the vintage clothing section 1947-62
i have 3 belts that style, but they have the leather inlays which that ebay one doesnt have (one is cowhair, 2 are stingray leather) with one of them custom made with rhinestone music notes and initials on the back.
the guy who makes my belts also makes them for Neiman Marcus, Fred Segal and Hollywood Trading Co....right now he is customizing my leather jacket with some cool patterns.

i buy penguin in mostly L, and i normally wear a Med in most brands..depends on how fitted you want them to be. i can wear a med penguin but it just feels too snug for comfort. the L isnt that much bigger than a med either, but *just enough*

the only place in US i know that sells the Ltd Straight Sven has them for about $450
also, Bootcut Olas will run $150-$250 depending on the finish

i agree that i'd rather have the Levis repro's, which I do.....but if i were in the market for that type of jean and really needed to blow my load, i'd totally get the Evil repros, and later on get the Levi's if/when i found em
as for which store in Long Beach, go to Sugar Lee on 4th st, that's where they sell out of. and yes, they are still $100 at the store.

you're not gonna find deadstock 1937 Levis 501 redline bucklebacks in a full range of sizes for $100 readily available to buy any day of the week
Nick's doing the same thing a lot of the Japanese (Denime, Sugarcane etc) companies do in repro'ing hard to get Levis

they're good.....a lot of my friends have a pair. they sell out of Long Beach at a vintage store and were originally made for the 50s rocknroll crowd but Nick is branching out to normal people now as well.
the details are nice, he replicated the vintage Levis very well and for the money are hard to pass up. i wouldnt hesitate to get a pair if i didnt already have several buckleback Lee and Levis.

the bargain of UniQlo is almost too good to be true...still hard to believe they only cost $30, as that's what a shite pair of Old Navy's costQuote:just got mine today, courtesy of mr. Cue. the fabric is a bit thinner than APC, and the quality of construction isn't on the same level, nor is the attention to detail. with that said, they're pretty damn good for the $$$. even a better VALUE than, dare i say, APC. can't wait to break them in. got mine in 30x33.

i end up wearing my UniQlo more than APC mainly cuz APC's belt loops are shorter than normal and dont easily accomodate a good thick leather belt. i feel like the seams on APC belt loops are gonna burst any second.

i think different models have different fits but my dry selv fit like a classic 501....normal waist and straight leg

naw yer wrong, purist rockabillies are all about selvage jeans. i was shocked to find out so many *normals* were into selvage since that has long been a rockabilly style.Quote:
Rockabilly are those guys obsessed with dressing like they are from the 50's. They ususlly wear contemporary Levis witha 4" cuff, showing off the open ended seam with pride!Quote:rockability?

the open ended 4" cuffs are usually guys that arent seriously serious
and you got it wrong, SWING died in 1997...."rockabilly" (in its many incarnations) is bigger than ever, for better or worse

i like 1-2" turnups on modern cut jeans (slim, lowrise), worn with trainers
on "classic" cuts (LVC, Lee 101, etc) i do 3" turnups with no break, since i'm usually wearing those with boots/leather shoes

i dig the suede One Star....not as obvious as all-stars, look better too imo
