if/when yer in LA....
hit Santa Monica's 3rd street Promenade (very easy to find, on 3rd street)....there is an Urban Outfitters, Adidas store, Levis store, Diesel store, etc etc all on the Promenade block. then after that, it is a 2 block drive eastward on Broadway to Fred Segal/Hollywood Trading Co. where there is TONS of harder to find streetwear
then hop on the 10 fwy and off to.....Wilshire near Rodeo Dr is where you'll find Barneys NY, Neiman Marcus, Saks...i like Barney's as it less "stuffy"
next stop about 10 min away is the Beverly Center mall which has some great stores, you might esp like Politix and Traffic.
then another 5-10 minutes from there is the Hollywood Trading Co store on Beverly Blvd. If you like vintage shoes, Remix 2 blocks away from there on Beverly is a must go.
from there, 5 minutes north to Melrose Ave and start with Fred Segal on Melrose (in case they have different stock from Fred Segal Santa Monica) then go east on Melrose to the "strip" with tons of streetwear shops to browse thru
after that turn south onto La Brea (from Melrose) and hit up the shops on LaBrea like Buffalo Exchange, and esp American Rag (down about 1/2 mile from Melrose)
you could literally do all that in one day with that route

i have a pair of APC newstandards and the UniQlos dont seem too similar in fit. APC has a lower rise and a slimmer overall leg. UniQlo isnt roomy but more of a classic straight leg with about 9" bottoms...i think my APCs have 8" bottoms. one of the things i like about the UniQlos is the color of the inside of the denim, which is less blue and more gray (like Nudie dry selvage). makes turnups look better imo. but for 1/4 price of APC you cant go wrong.

i havent washed mine yet so i can't say from personal experience, but the person who bought mine for me washed his and they didnt shrink at all (he wanted them to shrink and they didnt). the attached brand tag didnt say one way or another if it was sanforized or shrinktofit, but i would doubt that a japanese version of The Gap would sell product as high maintenance as "shrinktofit" jeans.

i know someone who washed a pair of the dry selvage and said they didnt shrink at all (very minimally if they did), so yes they are sanforized.

and my jeans came EXACTLY as tagged on the waist. 32" tag=32" waist. i think the lengths are all standard, at 35"
i'd guess if they were shipped from someone in Japan to USA, it would cost about $20 airmail....still an amazing bargain at around $50

they fit great *imo*. very classic Levis 501 fit, similar to my 1947 501xx. rise is "normal", so if you like it low these wont be your cup of earl gray. dry denim appears very nice, i'm sure corners were cut in the production process, hence the cheap price. but the tag does advertise that is was made on shuttle looms. and green selvage stitching. no back pocket detailing a la APC. dont know how to get em in USA other than have someone pick em up while in Japan.

yea, i'm wearing my UniQlo dry selvage today and for the money they are a phenomenal bargain. i dig the green selvage, very slick, reminds me of classic Lee denim. i still cant believe these only cost $30

definitely leaning towards the sussed skinhead/hardmod look. i like the upper left coat...would make a nice alternative to a good crombie and you'd stand out from the herd. would def look proper with a slimfit 60s style ben sherman buttondown and selvage jeans with the obligatory .5" turnup. a lot of the skinhead suss can easily come off as oldmanish if the geezer wearing it can't pull it off Joe Hawkins style.
the shoes are pretty ace as well. i've seen that loafer in red and it was swweeet

i have a Paul Smith with a photo print of a Vespa GS on the inside that i really dig. i really want to get the wallet with the Mini photo inside next
a really cool wallet i bought a few years ago that is inexpensive, but thin and stylish are J Fold wallets. very nice and simple

i saw that Nudie dry jacket in a shop here in LA, it's the bee's knees. would have jumped into one if they had my size.
my LVC type 1 was about $200 deadstock.

talk about price gouging, i saw a pair of RR at Traffic in bev hills for $275
if you can wait til aug, their US online distro is supposed to be open by then and they *say* they will be selling them more competitively priced to the european prices (which are less than here)

Nothing since then is worth listening to.

cool to hear there are hardcore doods in here. i was a skin but grew up with the OCxHC scene in the 80s and hung out with guys from No For An Answer, Insted, Hard Stance, Head First, Half Off, etc. saw lots of the classics like Chain of Strength, Judge, Gorilla Biscuits, Swiz, etc etc. got out of hardcore by early 90s when it started to go metalcore....then got re-interested around 2000 with bands like Carry On that were bringing back the 80s sound.
nowadays i go to shows here and there...of the current crop i dig shit like Internal Affairs, Violent Minds, Knife Fight, Blue Monday, Champion...can't wait for the Carry On "reunion/official last gig" in July. crucial!

Before the first wash when they were still dry, could you tell how much they would fade after the first wash or was it more of a surprise? hard to believe those are 4 months old, looks nice!

casual style is 50s rocknroll based....classic selvage jeans (altho i really dig my Nudies as well), vintage shirts made mostly from rayon gabardines, rayon/silk hawaiian shirts based on 40s/50s designs (Avanti & Sunsurf), 40s cableknit shortsleeve sweaters.....and mix that up with plenty of Fred Perry/Ben Sherman polos/buttondowns as a nostalgic nod to my 10+ years as a skin. casual shoes range from engineer boots, various trainers (mostly adidas with some obscure UK ones in the mix), or leather brogues, depending on what i'm wearing on top
dressier style is more mid 60s mod based with slim-fitting high buttoning suits, mostly french cuff shirts, vintage ties, chisel toe shoes or winklepickers....Ozwald Boateng or Paul Smith are my "go-to" brands

my waist is a 33-34 and i normally wear 32's
i bought my APC newstandards in a 33 and they felt a tad large in the waist (my 33s measured 34" when brand new pre-wash.). but after one wash they shrank about .5" and are now perfect. i def wouldnt get the 34s if your waist is actually 34. get the 33 or even 32. keep in mind that after repeated wearing, they will stretch out a tad larger

yes, the Aces are about true to size, maybe up to an inch larger than tag. and the denim is sanforized so they dont shrink much at all. the Ace 1954s are nearly sold out from what i understand and the company is planning to produce a different (better) line this fall, also using Japanese selvage denim.

a couple lesser known selvage jeans
Ace 1954-S - buckleback redline selvage using Japanese denim based on Levis. German made by "Dress-O-Rama", who makes lots of repro retro clothing. a steal at $90
and locally in socal, the EVIL jeans which are repros of 1937 Levis 501xx bucklebacks sold at Sugar Lee in Long Beach's antique row. not bad for under $100, using redline selvage

my Lee 1937 buckleback (Japan reissue) are sanforized but they shrank a bit more than the tag indicates (1%). they started off around 34" and are now about 32.5". which turned out perfect as they were a tad big when i first got them. and straight/loose is a good way to describe the leg type.

they are def similar to my 501xx in fit. not as loose/baggy as my Levis 201xx 1929 model
you have good taste in jeans tho (as it mirrors my own )
