how come the bootcut ola isn't very popular? is it too flared?

i dont think it's flared much at all. the bootcut is proportionately about the same as a RR but the leg is thinner overall.

you can get them at Traffic (Beverly Center) in LA, they have the biggest Nudie selection in town (dry Ola is about $155). the other stores that carry Nudie havent had Olas in a while that i can remember, just RR and Slim Jim

  2. The EVIL jeans are good...lots of my friends have them. very nice repros of 1937 Levis 501 with buckleback and redline selvage. the denim is actually made in singapore on japanese shuttle loom machines so for all intent and purpose it's "japanese" denim

you can get them from SUGAR LEE on 4th st in the antique block just east of Cherry Ave for $95

  3. +1 on the Nudie black slim jims...i got mine on sale for about $87

another good inexpensive option is the black denim Levis 514 slimstraight.... $40 at Levis stores and i just saw them at Macys now for a couple $ less. i have a pair in the dark blue and it is very slim, very straight, low rise.

  4. wow, just yesterday the RR dry selv was $199, now they are the same price as retail stores ($265).....you snooze you lose.

i was wondering why the price on dry bootcut ola was a little bit higher than a couple days ago (149 up to 155)

my fave bucklebacks are the Lee 1937s...really like the cut and denim. Ace is high on the list too. my least fave are the 1929 Levis 201s...i know they are sought after by a lot of folks but they are a bit too roomy-wide legged for my taste. the denim is great tho, has a greenish cast to it which looks real nice.

Haver you ever seen/tried on the 1937 LVC?

I want a buckleback jean, but I prefer no rivets or hidden rivets.

yea the 1937 501 is really nice (i think the tags call it a 201, but it is really a 501)

there is a brand by a UK rocker-geezer called "EVIL denim" based out of his vintage shop in long beach that is a repro of the '37 Levis 501. pretty damn good product, selvage denim, and all the detailing is authentic to the original. he occasionally puts one on ebay under sellername "hillhut". for $100 it is a great deal on a good jean.

the Lee buckleback has no rivets on the back pocket...uses the standard Lee 'X' bartack

  7. i have the 1937 hair on hide buckleback repros...great jeans, the denim is thinner i think than LVC and even tho its sanforized they shrink more than the tags say they will (shrank about 1 full size). typical old school cowboy cut with a high rise and full hips....look great with the proper gear.

my friends have the normal Lee selvage repros and they also seem very good quality and wear nicely over time. definitely a rockabilly standard.

  8. Levis 1947 501 selvage

    Levis 1929 201 buckleback selvage

    Levis 514 slimstraight

    Levis 505 big E selvage

Lee 1937 hair on hide 101 buckleback selvage

    Ace 1955 buckleback selvage

    Uniqlo dry selv

    APC new standard

    Nudie Regular Ralf dry selv

    Nudie Bootcut Ola 'true blue'

    Diesel kultur

    Banana Republic one wash selv

soon to add Nudie Straight Sven dry selv and someday Sugarcane 1947 and Dry Bones Jet*G

  9. among the *better* brands who do realistic prewashes to look aged (for example, Nudie RR authentic deluxe), how is this process done....to get authentic looking fades, creases, honeycombs etc like someone has worn/washed em for years...?

  10. surprisingly, www.sears.com sells 514s online for $29 but only in the black and dark indigo

    [url=" http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=CLTH&pid=041T0047000"] <a href="http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=CLTH&pid=041T0047000" target="_blank">http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=CLTH&pid=041T0047000</a>

keep in mind these run large. i usually wear a 32" waist and the 514s i bought in a 30". my *actual* waist is about 33" so they're running 3 sizes smaller than my actual waist
