  1. not to be a dick, but most of your questions are about everything but building/riding a bike. i feel like i'm spinning your wheels when i answer them.

the iro group buy was a group buy through tony @ iro on a bulk buy of frames. came in 3 colors, threaded or threadless and in a full range of sizes.

Your second paragraph answered my question. You've been really helpful and I am truly sorry I've annoyed you.

  2. Slight hijack here, what is this type of valve called:

And what kind of pump do i use on it? I tried 3 kinds, and nothing fitted.

If it's not a Presta, which I'm sure you've tried, why not pay $2 and get a new tube. Why work yourself into a headache?

  3. The hed comes with sealed balled bearings so you don't need a hub.

Crank length is 165mm. 170mm would be too long on me.

Paint was stock, I just added the decals.

Sorry, dumb question re:the front hub. I knew the answer.

Any special tips about the application technique you used? Are they vinyl laser cut? Did you do any clear coat or protective film on top? I am very impressed!

  4. I am of the school of thought that by far the best bike lock is 2 different bike locks- normally 1 around the back wheel+frame and maybe the seat with the second around the frame and front wheel attached to a lampost or whatever

I am having a hard time picturing this. Can you show me a picture or draw a diagram? Thank you.

  5. If these are going on a frame with road dimensions I would use 165mm cranks to decrease your chances of bottoming out, as the bottom bracket on a bike with road dimensions is lower than that of a bike with track dimensions.

If these are going on a frame with track dimensions you should be ok with 170mm cranks as, again, the bottom bracket is higher. For what it's worth I've also heard that a general rule of thumb is that your track cranklength is ~2.5mm shorter than your road cranklength.

Alternatively, I believe that the Sugino 75 crank set comes in 2.5mm increments so you might find a 167.5mm crank better to your liking as it's a bit of a happy median. The downside being that they are expensive and it would, to me at least, seem silly to run Sugino 75's on a road conversion when you could put that money twoards a proper track frame.

This is just my opinion and what I've heard; so I'd take it with a grain of salt. In either case, be sure to use proper track pedals.

    Hi,

Thanks for your help. This is going on a Soma Rush which is a track frame but it will be used in the streets. Now things are more confusing huh? What do you think?

  6. you can search my blog for my opinions on it... but trust me, it is the one to get...

I wish you wouldn't make it so difficult. I did infact search your blog where you even talk about the f40 which is an improvement over the f31 yet in this thread you recommend the f31. Kind of confusing.

  7. Hey guys, need some help determining crank length. I haev a 78.83 cm inseam and most calculators come up with a 170mm crank. I am getting a 51" frame and read that for fixed/singlespeed, it might be ideal to run shorter cranks, especially for cornering. What do you guys think about 165mm? Or should I go for 170mm? I run 172.5 on my road bike which is a slightly larger frame (52 or 54 cm, I forgot). Cranks are expensive so I don't want to make a mistake.

  8. very nice.

what's the main difference between these and the regular 875's? leather laces and a different shade on the body?

The difference that I know for sure is the double stitching. I can show you a picture if you don't know what I am talking about. It also comes with a Red Wings 100th Year lace lock. Yeah that's right! And two sets of laces (not sure if that's a bonus).

I think there might be another difference but I don't know it. It costs like $10-15 more than the 875's. Hope that helps.

  9. ^^ whoa...

how'd you get ahold of those?

It was probably the easiest pickup I've ever done. I literally went to the Red Wings website and found the store in my town (surprised we have one). Then I called and asked for them and on the weekend I went in and walked out with them. I am located in CA.

    Tips:

    1. They are hard to find in CA but easy to get everywhere else. So try calling in other states.

    2. They run 1/2 size big but width is correct.

    3. Manager mentioned something about "lots of stores getting a recent shipment."

It feels weird to have no trouble finding them especially after hearing how tough these are supposed to be to get.

  10. What's a standard front hub size? All the Velocity Deep V wheelsets I see on ebay are 120mm/100mm rear/front. According to Soma, their Rush front fork is 120mm which makes things very difficult.

  11. do not run a fixed setup on a road hub.

How do you tell the difference between a road hub and a track hub? I guess you can tell visually but oftentimes online you cannot see the threads that closely. Is there another way to tell?

I noticed many of the handlebars I want to run are 25.4mm but the stem you recommended is 26.4mm. Is this a common problem? Do they sell shims to help with this and is it safe to use one, or should I just find different handlebars?

    shimano cartridge bb $15

What does the "cartridge" refer to? Is it just the name of the Shimano model or is it some special type of fitting? How do I insure that the crankset is compatible with the bottom bracket?
