  1. I hate to bring this thread back to life, but in case anyone in New York is still looking for these, Barneys had both low and high tops on the Coop floor when I was there on Saturday.

The SA I was talking to told me that people were coming in and buying 3-5 pairs of each size for multiple sizes, though, so who knows if there are any left at this point.

Don't apologize for helping people out! :)Thanks man.

  2. if its loose ball, this is definitely a possibility. probably not so much with sealed ones. you can take it to a shop to have them check out unless you want to try repacking yourself. its not hard, but takes a good white the first time you do it.

if you take off your nuts, lock nuts and cones, it'll expose the bearings... loose ball are, well, just loose ball bearings and sealed will look just like skateboard bearings. do this slowly in case it is loose ball to avoid anything falling out. putting it back together will require a cone wrench and an adjustable wrench.

I have Sugino 75 BB. Are they considered sealed or loose? Adjustable? Cartridge? Thanks.

  3. I am getting alot of creaking from what I believe is my front wheel. It's the spokes. I get it on my road bike too but not as bad. How do I check the tension? How do I know what proper tension is? I have a spokewrench for adjustments but I need to know where to adjust and how much.

  4. dummy brake hoods are pretty common, actually, cmyke. if you're riding with a front brake only and you're using a traditional road lever, having a dummy hood on the opposite side gives you a third option for hand placement (tops, drops and hoods). you'll also notice that there are no cable stops or guides leading to the rear brake boss, so it's unlikely the frame is even able to accommodate a rear brake w/o zip ties and tapping a hole in the frame...

Poor cmyke. Granted I am a newbie when it comes to FG, I wouldn't have made such a damning accusation if I didn't' know what I was talking about.

  5. what does the tt need protection from? after that, i don't think you really ride bikes.

BUT, bar hits on the tt, locking up to poles, a smidge more protection for your beans when you have to fred flinstone it....

All that stuff's happened to me. I guess they just result in scratches on my bike. I didn't realize it was a problem.

  6. if you roll a machined sidewall, most of the colored rims will have a silver braking surface, which would be noticable. there are some with black braking surfaces, but i haven't seen any colors.

I am getting velocity deep v's and you can get them either machined or not. Since I am running brakes in the front, I will have to get that machined for sure. I was wondering what your (general you) opinion was on having machined fronts and non-machined rears. The alternative of course is to have both wheels with machined sidewalls.

  7. on the visual tip- Velospace.org and fixedgeargallery.com are two great sources to check out other peoples rides, and the components they put into them.

Believe it or not I have not found anyone, at least on FGG that has this setup. But I know I am not the first to think of it because there are vendors that sell sets in this config.

Edit: Found some on velospace but still am undecided. Can't tell which I like more.

  8. I actually do ride. I ride a Trek 2300 and have been for years, but moreso since June. I am riding tomorrow and again on Thursday, maybe Sunday too. All in all, a couple of 15 mile circuits. The reason I am asking so much about fixed is it's a whole new world to me. I also thought it'd be good to kill two birds with one stone - learn about fixed riding and nuances as well as about bike mechanics.
