  1. it's a decent list but there's a whole bunch that i don't agree with

    e.g. kenka and setagaya

Yeah I don't like everything on the list but they are some of the more frequented places. I would agree entirely that Matsugen is disappointing -- the only thing I order there is soba and the grapefruit dessert.

Honmura An was by far the best soba restaurant but it closed 2 years ago. The tasting menu there was money.

  2. where the best jap food b at in NYC?

I don't want fusion hipster bullshit.

I think the best I've had was at Nadaman Hakubai in Kitano Hotel.

    need some input thanks

Herp, not sure if you're still in NY but here's what I can think of real quick for real japanese places

    Soba Koh

    Sakagura

    Sobaya

Matsugen (jean george restaurant, kitchen run by Matsushita brothers, waiters aren't japanese)

    Soba Nippon

    Yakitori Totto

    Soba Totto

    Aburiya Kinnosuke

    Shabu Tatsu

    Umi no ie

    KurumaZushi

SushiYasuda (request Yasuda if you can)

    Sushiden

    Hakubai

    Rosanjin

    Tsukushi

    Basta Pasta (Japanese italian)

    Dieci (Japanese italian)

Japan Premium Beef, Inc. (if you need to buy some baller status beef to cook at home)

    Ramen/Izakaya/Cafe places

    Setagaya

    Menkuitei

    Menchankotei

    Ippudo

    Minca

    Yakitori Taisho

    Kenka

    Otafuku (takoyaki)

    Katsuhama (only katsu served here)

    Cafe Zaiya (midtown location)

  3. Damn Lehman stock got fucking slaughtered today on no news. You'll find better opportunities Raj.

    Downtime = vacation fun time?

No news? Dude, are you paying attention to what's going on at Lehman?

Edit: And Raj, you'll end up somewhere good, just use your network and take the time to pursue something you really want in a place that you want to be. Best of luck. News out of NYC hasn't been good today either...

  4. this whole networking site hype is retarded

who the hell clicks on internet ads?

google is genius but banner ads? sorry ksubi.......

Dunkin, be easy man. There are tons of idiots out there who actually click on ads. Forget all those people though and just use a social networking site to get some daifuku level oshiri.

  5. I really want this job.

They do a lot of deals in Japan and have an office in Tokyo.

They invested in AllAbout.com and StarFlyer airlines for example.

    Best of both worlds mutha-fuckasssssssssssssssssssssssssss.

Good luck -- stay focused no matter how long they grill you.

Speaking of VC, you see the recent Linkedin announcement? People seem fairly excited about it.

  6. I'm finally fucking legal in Japan.

Which means basically nothing. Hooray for Hatachi. Please tell me you weren't waiting to start drinking.

I don't see this Oshiri job going to far in New York. Actually, maybe you could set up several small branches just off banks' trading floors. You could even try to get some VC funding at your interview tomorrow.

  7. Favorite item ever found at a Konbini (sorry no pics):

Ichigo iri daifuku at a Family Mart in Nagoya near the Irinaka subway stop. It was some locally made goodness. Real strawberry and all. I've never found it anywhere else and I when I ask people, I get the WTF are you talking about face.

My favorite konbini item available everywhere is konbu onigiri, kurogoma daifuku and Koiwai Miruku Cohee.

  8. ok i will take this in stride... For my own personal reasons this just didn't seem to merit best waywt. But your points are very true. I would lose the tie and change for something a little thinner (yes perhaps the pencil tie has been played out but with that suit i think it would look alot better). The rest is on point but still i don't think it should be in best waywt, but yeh imo of course :) Thanks for the thoughtful reply though.

The shoes are great though :D

There is nothing wrong with thinner ties but from my experience, at i-banks

Pencil thin ties + trading floor = being tooled on by the guys on your desk.

  9. no.. alot of his others but certainly not this....

just too boring, not saying it doesn't look good but defs not best waywt!

If you don't wear suits to work, I can see how you'd take this point of view. However for the professionals out there who wear business dress, this is a good combination of style and quality that you don't see too often. There's a time and place for goth ninja steez but let's assume he's going to work. He's not hitting the club or taking a stroll on Saturday afternoon. It's not often that young guys look acceptable and stylish in a formal workplace.

  10. I'll definetly check out some of your suggestions. Hvae any of you eaten at cucina de pesce im the east village? It looks nice with $10 early bird dinner specials. Sea bass and tuna. I'm a fish guy. How about beers? I'm really into belgians but can go for microbrews as well. Are there some spots I should hit?

For beer, hit Zum Schneider on Ave. C and 7th St.

  11. Lidfort is an Italian brand with a couple different levels of production. Strangely, the more expensive line seems uglier and less refined looking. They make some ugly shoes, but some are nice. I think Barneys is the only US retailer of Lidfort at this point. They recently added them their website:

    http://www.barneys.com/Shoes/SHOES04,default,sc.html?prefn1=designer&prefv1=Lidfort

I am a fan of these...nice wood grain looking texture in person. http://www.barneys.com/Blucher/10301%2e5235,default,sp.html?cgid=SHOES04&prefn1=designer&prefv1=Lidfort&start=14&sz=1

  12. Regarding the heels, I was mainly talking about the Koji Suzuki for Spigola shoes. I agree with you about the English shoe bias on AAAC and Styleforum but I've found some links to Japanese makers buried in one of those stickied threads.

My only experience with non-English high end shoes is Corthay, Lidfort and Sutor Mantellassi and none of them have this heel effect. I guess I'm just wondering if it's a Japanese domestic market thing or if it's a one-off trait at the request of the buyer.

  13. When you look at more pictures of these shoes (if you follow the links) the heels are all screwed up. They look like they belong on a cowboy boot...very high and slanted. On a dress shoe, they are almost feminine looking. Is this to give the wearer a little more height? It's easiest to see what I'm talking about when you look at the profile view of the shoe.

Also, a few of these look like straight copies of Berluti and Corthay (albeit with the weird heel action).

There is a massive thread over on Styleforum on shoe makers and there are several Japanese companies in the list.

  14. I'm gonna end up posting this in the other nyc thread also. Me and my Girl are going to the city between wednesday and saturday next week. Staying with one of her girls in the east village. I pretty much have the idea of what shopping I'll do, blue in green, 45 rpm, uniqlo, cloak, alife, maybe mishka, bunch of other shit. Doing alot of museums and such. Going to the takeover at love friday the 23rd. I don't really have anything picked out as far as dining goes, and all the other nights are pretty much open, so anyone have suggestions or must does?

Dude, sit down cause you're in for a shock. Cloak doesn't exist anymore. And Alife sucks.

  15. You know, it seems LA is making some significant progress competing with NYC shopping lately.

I should make a thread. In the past year or so we've gotten an Opening Ceremony, Steven Alan, Margiela, as well as random shit like Endovanera's store, a Balenciaga, Duncan Quinn, etc

So you're saying that LA finally got copies of the stores that have been in New York for several years (and in some cases were created in NY)? Sweet. Sounds like LA is really holding their own. Pretty soon LA might get their very own Odin!
