  1. just wanted to revive this because i'm here for 6 months and all my spend too much time in meatpacking.

anyone help a tourist? i walked into this sweet place literally hidden behidn a phonebooth while eating a hotdog last week. any more lil chill spots?

  2. are there no mall rats (shopping centre rats) around here?

surely there's more to a mall than just shopping. watching a film, getting some food and convenience is a big part of it. Isn't there any mall that you've been to where you go 'wow'?

yeah toilets is a must. i +rep any public spot that has a proper toilet

  3. For most of the products and brands that Sufu members look for, one must really stick to the streets and not wander into a shopping centre. As much as I love roaming the streets of foreign cities and absorbing the more local and lively atmospheres between buildings, something has to be said about well laid out architecture for one to just bum.

Which buildings in your opinion are the best malls/ shopping centres? My two favourites are:

    1) Omotesando in Tokyo for the awesome floor plates that allow upper stories to all stare down and make the bottom floor a dramatic performance space

    2) Central area in Hong Kong that provide good shelter througout the major buildings in the area, protecting both shoppers and tresspassers from rain.

  4. Nice shots, reminds me of the shire from lord of the rings! I love the 50mm lense too. M or AF? Ive got a manual for my nikon, great for concerts

I loved both photos at first sight, but after studying them for a bit, i think they need a tighter crop. The bottom one lacks an eye anchor on the upper right hand corner and the top one needs something going on in the bottom left. maybe not something going on, but more than blur/ lack of information.

good job nonetheless. i loved the dramatic depth of field

  5. I'll be in providence for six weeks this summer, doing a course at RISD. I'm going to be coming here periodically for advice once I do.

what you doing at RISD? glass by any chance? I hear really great things about that.

  6. in the inbox, was wondering when you'd stick your head in here....

yeah well i just got out of prov last sunday. am busy moving into new york and paving the way the next stage of life blah blah. I hadn't even noticed a thread on provtown, til i tried to relocate those various ramen threads ^^ (time to move on from pho)

phonatic is opened by the boss of pho paradise on broad street, which is fairly good pho by RI standards (i dont find cranston that much more special... ur thinking pho hon right?). The fried chicken wings there are good, as are the bbq ribs served with rice (sorry i don't know my names/ numbers). if you feel like pho, i wouldn't turn away from phonatic as i did from asian paradise (or Shanghai. bleugh)

and all the talk bout brunch is getting me hungry. the only thing that is really good at brickways is there omelette with corn beef hash, and blueberry muffins. the other stuff i can enjoy elsewhere.

I like nick's on broadway and julian's alot. both are better breakfast places than shit u find in the east side. julian's has pretty good home fries, and offer 4 types. the best is the spinach and blue cheese (which is only midly bluecheesey, but that is the key).

  7. Lol poly do you have that list stored in My Documents and just copy paste as needed?

I like Downtown providence alot these days. On Westminister Street there's Symposium books that sells out of print/ overstock books up to 40% off (I bought Rem Koolhaas SMLXL for 40). Across the street theres a clothing store that sells Barney's type stuff, think Edun, Rogue's Gallery etc. Theres a jazz/ funk club that I enjoy going to called Tazza that's open every night. All on Westminster street, a stones throw from Trinity Brewhouse.

I also enjoy chilling on the Fox Point bridge alot, that is just a massive iron traintrack now disused- good for a beer in Spring.

I told Poly a while back about this japanese restaurant New Japan for their Salmon. It has sucked a bit since- it was amazing for a two week period. I dunon might be worth a try. My favourite restaurant is still Farmstead on Wayland square though, cheesemongers by day, unpretentious good) frenchish food by night.

  8. I live in Rhode Island and have a few days to bum around before I start work in New York. Is there anything that is particularly cool to do or visit? I was thinking of checking the Walter Gropius House and Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Waters but thats really architecture geek shit to do.

so any ideas at all would be cool.

  9. man charlie just has to fucking die. if i were him, and saw all these signs of imminent death, i woulda just suicided to make it easier.

  10. I used to go to hot gossip on newbury, boston. i'm graduating this year, and i been thru 4 years of that. both my stylists have gotten pregnant and left so i can't recommend you anything.

but last time i went, this guy Jun cut my hair and he was good at listening to what i wanted. tho his layering skills wasn't top notch, it was certainly satisfactory for 60.

how much does one tip a hairdresser in the USA anyway?
