  1. Wallies. Gotta love em. This last weekend I walked into a shop in Berkeley, CA looking for a pair of Chestnut suede wallies to add to the quiver since my sand joints are starting to look a little abused.

They have all of the one pictured above and yeah, I'll be sticking to the classic suede solid colors. However, the did have a Powder Blue pair and I said to the guy working there that only Ghost could pull those off and he said funny I should say that 'cause Ghost was in there recently buying Wallies. Apparently he bought a pair of Powder Blue and the perf White. The sales guy then brought out a pair of the White perf ones with a big Ghostface tag on the side.

I bought my Chestnut Wallies from the same guy Ghost bought his Wallies. Does that qualify as a "brush w/ greatness"? Probably not....

  2. I thought I saw some Lee's w/ a buckle back in a magazine a couple of weeks ago so I wrote Lee Authentics.

    Here's their reply:

Thank you for your recent inquiry concerning Lee Authentics jeans. We aresorry, we do not have a jean in our current assortment that features abuckle back.We always appreciate comments and suggestions from our valued customers. We will be happy to forward your comments to our Product DevelopmentDepartment for consideration when developing future styles. Thanks again for taking the time to write to us with your concerns and ifwe can assist you in the future, please feel free to e-mail us again orcall us at 1-800-453-3348.

  3. Honestly, no i didn't see that. That's sort of makes me not want them. I live in the SF/Bay Area and I rarely get to read the NY Times. Still, I'll end up ordering a pair. I have only seen a handful of people out here who wear them.

  4. With the advent of wet weather looming in the not so distant future, my thoughts have turned to waterproof footwear. Over the years my staples have been the Blundstone 500 boot (brown) and the Timberland 3-eyelet hand-sewn lug sole moc (oxblood).

I need to add something new to the repertoire. I’m thinking about getting a pair of L.L. Bean, Bean Boots, specifically the Rubber Moc.

Does anyone own these? I’m also curious about what you all think about the over-all shape of the shoe. Moc vs. Boot?

    Thanks.

  5. Something about how he wears his bandanas remind me of a chef in a dirty sushi restaurant. It's almost hat like.

Yeah, beats are nice but that's about it. Good drunk music though.

    DIP SET, DIP SET AYE!

  6. I'd have to say Seiko and Casio. Not minimalist but I just bought an orange face dive watch and I'm liking it a lot.

I also have a few Casio's. I have a Casio stainless "Futurist" on right now and my next pick-up is going to be a gold Casio A168.

The Nixon "Rotolog" in walnut in nice but it weighs about 15lbs and it's about $200. I'll drop $200 on a Seiko but not a Nixon.

  7. Junkies. You have a problem. At one point I'm sure your lifestyle was edgy and fun but having no teeth, no money, no food and nowhere to lay your weary head sort of puts a damper on things, huh? Now you're addicted. It's your own fault.

Jail converts. You f'ed up, got locked up and found God/Allah. Good for you. I'm not that stupid so don't try and save me.

Kids who beg aggressively. You don't scare me. Get a job, already. Plus, you stink.

Snowboarders. Least cool of the board set (surf, skate, snow). Look, I snowboard but I don't wear my googles on the side of my head or wear ridiculously oversized clothing. I don't smoke pot and play beats really loud in the parking lot either. Skiiers suck too.

New school ghetto cars. Since when did a Buick La Sabre w/ 24" rims mean hood? Go get a metal flake green '68 Ford cougar w/ gold corners, gold hundred spoke Daytons and Vogue tires. That's hood!

  8. Best:

Huf (SF) - I'm surprised that people say the workers there have so much attitude. I drop in once every couple of weeks and they've never been rude to me. It may have something to do w/ the fact that I've been a regular since they opened although I've never seen any of the workers be rude to anyone while I've been in there. It must happen though 'cause I keep hearing stories.

Classic Kicks & DQM (NYC)- Good people. When I'm visiting NYC, I stop at both spots.

2A (NYC) - For some reason, I always find myself in there when I'm in NYC. Last time I was in there I had the best time just talking to the bartender and anyone else. The bartender started comping gin & tonics. Really nice staff and customers.

Neiman Marcus & Nordstrom (SF) - Always friendly even when it's clear I'm not going to buy anything that day.

    Worst:

Gimme Shoe (SF/Union Sq.) - Crazy attitude from some random girl in there. You sell shoes and you're not fine so you can't give me any attitude.

Supreme (NYC) - I really like Supreme gear and to be fair, they were indifferent to me which I can take. What I will always remember though, is a guy who works there literally SCREAMING in a Japanese guys face. Screaming at someone doesn't make them understand. I walked in the middle of it so I don't know what happened but I will not forget that.

Molinari Deli (SF) - Take a number and if you're having a sandwich, pick out your bread from the bin BEFORE they call your number. If you don't...NO SANDWICH FOR YOU! COME BACK, ONE YEAR!!!!!

Just kidding. BEST meatball sandwich in SF, hands down.

  9. ^ One of Vans stores, that is, not a retailer that carries Vans but an actual Vans store. If you use the store locator on the Vans site (bottom center of home page), it give you a choice of "all retailers" or "vans store". Choose "Vans store". You'll get a list of Vans stores and outlets. I don't know if a Vans outlet will do it but it wouldn't hurt to try.

  10. No problem. They're even better in person. The material isn't regular canvas. It's heavy like balistic nylon although I'm not sure that's what it is. If you have a Vans retail store near you, you can go there and order them and they won't charge you shipping.

  11. Surfrider Foundation X Vans. Series of 6 pairs of Era's, each representing famous surf spots. The pair in the pic is Sebastian Inlet. Certain pairs are available at certain Vans retail stores. All are available online at Vans.com, $60 each. All are nice although I only have 3 of the 6. Go to Vans.com, click "Shop", click "Men's Classics" and scroll down to "Era, Surf" and Bob's your Uncle.

  12. I feel your pain.

I tried to wear a pair of Nike Air Tech Challenge and the sole crumbled like a potato chip. I don't think there is anything you can do. If you try to caulk or "shoe goo" the crevice, the sole will snap again at the unreinforced part of the sole. Thats my theory, at least. I felt sick see the sole on my shoes crack so I threw them in the back of the closet where they still reside.

Maybe there is a way to "rehydrate" the foam material to make it less brittle prior to wearing them? I doubt it, though.

Sneakers, like most consumer goods, are not designed to last more than a few years. They were meant to be worn and thrown out.

  13. Don't know much about pendants/necklaces. Although I've always liked the fat gold 80's style cables. The big ones like Slick Rick, LL or Eric B used to wear (still wear?). They don't seem to be very easy to find. You'd think they'd be in pawn shops or something. I can't even find one on eBay!

  14. Huf in San Francisco (Sutter St. location) get's Supreme goods - hats, tees, backpacks and decks. You have to quick, though. Check their website for updates, hufsf.com or just stop by from time to time.

  15. I don't know what it is exactly, but something about girls wearing Supreme hats is astoundingly hot, and I don't even really like Supreme that much.

^ I agree and I think it has to do w/ the size of the hat. IMO, the Supreme 5-panel runs smaller than your typical 5-panel. I think they look good on girls because it's the right size. I have a big 'ol melon head and when I tried on a Supreme 5-panel, it looked like I was rockin' a yarmulka with a visor! Not the look I was going for.

I just picked up a couple of 5-panel hats from DQM and they are my current favorite.

  16. ^ Daytona! I wouldn't wear it for fear of gettng jacked!

Omega's are nice too. I've always admired the Speedmasters.

If you want a dive watch and don't want to spend a grip, look at some Seiko's. I like the Seiko SKX007 and SKXA53. I'm right about to order the SKXA55 because it has an orange face. All three can be found for $200ish each.

I have a Rolex stainless Oyster Perp. my dad handed down to me but my favorite watches are by Casio and Seiko. Go figure.

On my list is a Baume & Mercier 8245 which has a solid gold case and croc. band. That joint is going to cost though so I'm saving up.

  17. I got mine from Div. East and they were really easy to deal with. Cool guys. $200+ shipping.

Anyway, I got a few wears out it (under 10) when I started to notice the cuff and waist ribbed material was basically falling apart. It was really frail material. I went to a fabric store, bought some black ribbed material better suited for a sweatshirt and had my alterations lady replace the cuffs and the waistband ($15). It's a 100 times better now but yeah, not exactly what you'd call high quaility to begin with.

I agree that having a hoodie made is the way to go before buying a LJ. While I was at the fabric store, I found some really great material. I'm going to pick some out and find someone to do a knock-off.

  18. I like the Surf Rider collabo joints with the pictures of famous surf spots. I have a couple of pairs and the material is great. It's really heavy like almost ballistic heavy. They're readily available on vans.com.

If you want something a little different, there's the black/white wingtip ones from last year. If you're a sz. 8 or 13, you're in luck. $50 at moda3.com.
