Yes. Could be that. Not directly related but I had to switch from Safari to Chrome for FB video calls. No idea why it didn't work with Safari.

@ATWM, they're definitely jpegs. Just double checked. I take photos on a Pixel 6a. I've never had trouble before these past few weeks. @CSL, I don't use any web privacy stuff (though I know I should). I also thought perhaps it was a browser setting issue, but it's happening on both my computer and phone. I guess I could try a non-Google browser
