What exactly is the connection between the 5150 and Eddie van Halen? I'm not especially familiar with his sartorial preferences, but an image search for his name and "jeans" doesn't turn up anything very 50s-looking.
-
Are the measurements raw or one-wash?
-
I'm interested but not at >€300. 50s cut would be my preference but happy with the idea that each selects their own.

Different denim. 66 is lighter and bluer.
-
That's the kind of consideration that got me thinking about it actually. I have a decent sense of what people mean by it in the context of Japanese denim, but lately I've been trying to buy shorts for holidays. This is stuff I'm unlikely to wear more than four weeks in a year, so I want it to fit properly but I'm not looking for durability, ageing characteristics and all the rest of it. So I'm looking at unfamiliar websites and brands and their customers say things fit "true to size". I'm none the wiser.
-
How do people interpret a claim that an item fits "true to size"? I'm asking out of curiosity (in the spirit of "general nonsense") rather than for any practical reason. It seems to me that it could be used to mean quite different things in different contexts - - true to the brand's sizing (so a Nudie w32 fits true to size if it fits like other Nudie jeans, i.e. about 3" oversized) - true to actual measurements (so a w32 fits true to size if the waist measures 32") - true to average jeans sizing (so a w32 fits true to size if it fits like you'd expect most w32 jeans to fit) I suspect that on here, the second is the most popular interpretation. But amongst (e.g.) people who post reviews on Amazon or brands' own websites, the third is probably more common. And if brands say it themselves, maybe they mean the first?

Thanks! Probably rules then out for me then.

Very nice. How does the width of the toe box compare with Converse?
-
Seems like an extremely low rise for a 50s fit. Or any fit for that matter.

Loose threads in different places?
-
I prefer the silhouette of the 711, especially for wearing at ankle length with trainers in the summer. I also quite the low rise to wear with untucked t-shirts. I'm pretty confident the 34 will work for me. (But fingers still crossed...)

Yeah rise is very tricky. I always take it into account but I don't generally wear jeans with as low a rise as the 711. I think I probably have a bigger waist to hips ratio than most so the rise makes a bigger difference. Otherwise I like the fit and the denim (and the short length for summer) so I'll probably get the 34 once I manage to move the 33 on.

The 33 didn't work out. It seems the difference between my true waist and my hips, where the very low rise 711 sits, was greater than I thought. So these are now in the sale thread.

@beautiful_FrEaK I noticed you take a 34 in your new Sugar Canes. Would you say that corresponds to a 34 in Resolute 711? I'm a 32 in Sugar Cane (55Z and 66 anyway, I don't have the 43 or 46 but I imagine they'd be the same) so I think the 34 in Resolute might be too big.

Yeah I'm not against low rises in general so the extra room in the hips and thighs is reassuring. Will probably go for it...

Thanks @beautiful_FrEaK And you don't find them overly restricting?

I like the look of the 711. The waist at 34 looks right but I'm scared by the low back rise. Has anyone on the bigger side (I'm 87kg 182cm with fairly big legs) made them work without sizing up so as to need a belt?

@Lendo Pics of 800xx as requested. Half waist 44.5cm, as shown Inseam 88cm Both these measurements are exactly as per those recorded on Bears website so I imagine the rest will be accurate too but if you want me to check any others, let me know.

Warehouse 800xx size 34 BNWT £100 plus postage Or swap for a BNWT size 33 if you've done the opposite of me and gone too small.

@indigoeagle Any thoughts on the boots? They look good.

Anyone interested in a BNWT pair of Warehouse 800xx in 34 for £120 + postage (or possibly handed over in person if you're in London) PM me. Just received from Bears but far too big for me.
