  1. I explained above why MIJ products are so expensive from Western storefronts. Taking everything into consideration, MIJ denim is the same price, if not substantially cheaper compared to quality US products (let's say 3sixteen). The price difference is purely a logistical one. The unfortunate thing is that people equate this high price that we pay over here to paying for a higher quality product than MIUSA brands, which most of the time is true, but it's not that simple. I think the thing that makes us stop and take a look at what the market is like in the US is the fact that we can get japanese products for cheaper. That's making brands like Left Field and 3sixteen seem 'not worth it' to them, while in reality they're priced accurately in the market for their quality.

  2. more character than the 5105?! I'm not familiar with mcoy's, was actually interested in the 991xh, but my pair of 5109s (which I've unfortunately exercised my way out of in the thigh) have some of the most interesting denim I've ever seen...Self Edge's description of being "almost like a persian rug" is quite apt.

I do admit the 51xx's have a very interesting fabric- I meant more of the overall feel of the pant. I don't know, I just get such a different vibe from the McCoys that I liked better than the SGs.

  3. I was window shopping today (tax time whoo!) for some new denim. I was looking at the Fullcount 1101's or 1108's. I noticed they are significantly cheaper on OD than on BiG - just wondering if there is a difference I'm not seeing that warrants such a big price difference between the two shops. I've bought from Gordon in the past, and he's a great guy who I would love to do business with. But for almost $100 less, I think I would have to go with Okayama for this purchase. Any input from the experts?

OD/Denimio/Rakuten/proxy services are all based in Japan where FC is based. These shops don't have to pay import fees, VAT, other taxes, and then make a profit on top of all of those, so the price is cheaper. I support buying straight from Japan for these reasons, but a lot of people like to buy from BiG/SE/BO so that we can have shops like that in the US, and because they generally provide a better customer experience. It's just up to you whether the price difference is worth it. In the end you're getting the same product.

  4. Excuse the lighting, it started to rain while I shot. I'm 5'11 140lbs for fit reference.

The Imperials are by far the best fit here IMO. I do wish they were a bit more interesting fabric wise, and some added starch would be nice, but they're super comfy. The 32oz were about half an inch too small in the waist when I got them post-soak, so I stretched them out with a volkswagen jack for a bit and they fit pretty nicely at the moment, but I would like a tad less taper to the legs. The Oni's are kind of a mess really. They're about 1.5" too large in the upper thigh, giving me some serious crotch bulging. I soaked them and it alleviated a bit, but not all. I'm hoping they'll relax and that'll go away. They're also about half an inch too large in the waist. Other than that, I really enjoy the straighter fit. The denim is obviously one of a kind and is the reason I'm keeping these. Love 'em.

  5. I didn't go back too too far in this thread, but what does the BE model name represent? I just ordered some 512xxBE from Rakuten, I'm guessing just the same fit as the xx but with arcuates?

Just got an email back from Hinoya- they're confirming it's the same fit and everything + arcuates.
