as lady fortune went mad on me and tricked me out of both the sd-101 and the 3005.............. i chose the 634N for my latest pair to join my rotation.
this new 17 oz denim really is awesome, and one of the best i came across in the last years! will write a detailed review later, with pictures, etc. they deserve it!

Just wash your jeans, these aren't linen or silk they are a rugged cotton garment. Don't want to sound like a snob, but I will never understand why people are so afraid of washing their jeans. It's a bit ironic that such a rugged, blue-collard garment is treated so delicately by some. Often subject to a repertoire of care traditionally reserved for finer clothing.
you gotta thank all the shitty, stupid, mindless, hypocritic retailers (knowing no shit about nothing, in case I have not made that clear enough...) selling these "once blue collar garments" to our western audiences.
i have reserved a special place in my heart for these folks.
anyway, i am not aiming to hate the fellas trying to achieve high contrast fades with few washes. and regarding this, the fellas in SE asia hold a level of craziness in their own right.

wearing a belt might prevent stretching back, theoretically.... havn't really experienced that.
the guys around will agree, the 3xxx will stretch back, pretty easy, too.
then soak em hot, but honestly, don't worry about the detergent left in the washing machine.

laundromat, won't hurt them and you should get rid of shrinkage in one run.
the 3xxx denim will def. stretch back out to pre soak, just so you know.

they will shrink further. a bit.

then ask your friends or family for a machine!
but you could also tell us how much the denim shrank already in waist and inseam, and then we could tell you how much shrinkage is left! maybe another hot soak could suffice..

60°C inside out in the washing machine. no spinning, no drying, no agitation.
repeat if needed!

I appreciate your understatement. you'd better:
1. wear those jeans loyally till the end of this contest
2. wash them enough but not too much
3. have good repairs done when and if needed
otherwise your solid fan base will be very disappointed!
as i am the one repairing these, the repairs are going to be as shitty & unsightful as you can imagine. can't help it, i already reached my limits haha

its impossible, as the yarn is completely dyed down to the core. which is the traditional japanese way to treat cotton yarns. so this whole hank dying thing is about embracing japanese traditional craftsmanship in a pair of us american inspired jeans. has nothing to do with "traditional" denim.

i like to wear my contest pair, again... i had a time where i couldn't stand it
i like to follow the few people that still actually contribute, like KrisB (whose jacket I love) & Nizzel (whose pair is great though not my cup), or pudas, or max of course....
but "winning" a contest i so rarely partake in... i don't know...
and just to get this straight, although i appreciate your comments, i don't seriously see me winning

I don't see any practical need to wear heavy denim. in the whole XX century people never felt the need for heavy denim, anything between 12.5 and 14 oz it's always been plenty enough for an all year around pair of jeans.
even in freezing temperatures a normal pair of jeans with a pair of long johns underneath seems to me more practical than heavy denim.
i do agree with you. i talked to Fardin about this the first time I met him, and he stated that most actual workwear denim during our XX period weighed from 8 to 12 oz. Not more. I am pretty sure that actually the japanese started to produce "heavy weight" denim of 14 to 15 oz for the first time. which back then stressed the looms pretty much.
so i think producing denim weighing over 12 oz was just too expensive & time consuming for both the manufacturers and their clients back then, which might be the main reason for their preferences.
just imagine the hype of 21 oz denim in the good ol usa back then haha

now with these kind words of yours I feel bad about complimenting myself.....
this denim(e) fades surprisingly fast and it pleases me beyond measure how well this pair reacted to the frequent washing regime!
thanks man!

the denim is not slubby or irregular at all, but the marbling on this pair is awesome, like this state a lot!

nice trip!
and your honeycombs are as ridiculous as ever..... positively0 -
The shoulders on their shirts are great, I just wish they'd add a bit room to the chest...
Size 40 chest is borderline, size 42 and the shoulders are...

bad rip, and i think the denim itself and the overall appearance of the jeans could use a more frequent washing regime.

cuff em once and do the hayashi-san-thing, or cut them into shorts
