Well, it's getting colder and it was a sunday night so it wasn't as crowded as usual.

Anybody else here really into synthwave/outrun electro?

 

For those who don't know what that is, a bunch of modern musicians are making songs using 80s inspired sounds and synth to make almost movie soundtrack-ish future-y songs. Think Blade Runner or Terminator.

 

I've been listening to Futurecop!, Lazerhawk, M|O|O|N, Anoraak, College and Mitch Murder pretty consistently for half a year+ now additionally to my usual music consumption.

Amazing stuff to listen to during a workout or run. My mind just wanders off and goes into space and its great.

I don't know man, Meshuggah is probably one of the most tamest metal bands out there that try to do something unique (Polyrhythm, mainly) in their genre, there's a lot of genuinely mind numbing shit out there to be found. I just like how Meshuggah sounds and the energy it has.

 

Now if you really want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes you can go subject yourself to some Senthil

 

When you're listening to Meshuggah and sometimes the wall of sound the guitars and drum set create make the same sound as gchat notifications so when I'm listening to the album 'Nothing' I usually end up checking the gmail tab around 20 times for nothing, drives me nuts

 

Some of the quieter songs of The National have that too

Relistened to the side project of Paul Gilbert 'United States' today and uh

I was looking at the album cover again and well damn there's something I wasn't able to recognize in 2009 when that album came out see for yourself haha

 

 

(Paul Gilbert was the lead guitarist of Racer X and Mr. Big in case you didn't know)

 

Rick's also like only 4 years older than Paul and they were both active in LA around the same time when Paul was in Racer X and after Rick dropped out of Otis-Parsons.
Probably reaching here but it'd be funny if they actually met each other back in the day.
