  1. Thanks for the link. Boots seem to be priced a little steep for what I was expecting... that's unfortunate.

Also, just wanted to pose this question. Is anybody else repulsed by the excess of 3M used in lots of techwear? If anyone is trying to fly under the radar, a simple flashlight will have you looking like an airport runway strip. Just a little pet peeve.

Acg styling/cut looks really great this season, but the excessive branding bothers me. Pretty much the only wearable stuff to me is the black on black, everything else looks too flashy. 3m doesnt bother me in a typical hi-vis application (like for biking/running/active gear), but then its more needed to not fly under the radar. Getting thrown everywhere on jackets is a bit much.

  2. One of the dudes at the DC store knows me well. Popped in to get some tech wash because I ran out and didn't feel like schlepping all the way out to REI. "You're a medium, right?" he asks. Turns out they got a single Indisce blazer in a delivery this week and it was my size.

I went in yesterday and asked about the indisce and they said they didnt stock it. I guess I should become better friends with them and they wont hold out on me.

  3. So these are a general re-release? It's only been a few years.

I have the ones that came out like a year and a half ago, and they have a grey midsole, where these have a white one. Not sure why theyre releasing them with different midsole colors (iirc the originals had an off white midsole), especially so close in time.

  4. Re: Discussion on useful/not useful majors and stuff

This spring ill be finishing my BA in Math (minor in stats/music), which sounds weird, but BA vs BS was that I have way more freedom to take classes i'm interested in (i've taken english/sociology/music for multiple semesters), plus BS is essentially prep for grad school, which I probably wouldn't go to for math. Granted math is still interesting to me and I enjoy it, there are definitely a lot options and easy ways to get more marketable skills but kids aren't often pushed in those directions because college is such a huge industry at this point and getting tuition money matters more than leaving kids in debt to the institution. But the huge change is that a bachelors is not the way to a decent job the way it was for many baby boomers, yet it still is marketed as such.

  5. I have some voronoi ARs from last fall and after washing them twice (following care instructions) they dont seem to be as water repellant as they once were. Has this happened to anyone else/has anyone had luck retreating their voronois?

  6. Dammit, where's sz 8.5?! Fak shit fak

Darkside Initiative got a shipment of the white and olive chukka fsb's, did you check with them about availability? I think theyre only taking email/phone orders or in store purchase, nothing about sizing/availability online.

  7. ^^^ tried that and still my size is unavailable.  FML

I'll try my luck at Darkside.. if they ever pick up their damn phone.

Talking to a nike rep and another tier 0 stockist (if such a thing still exists) they both said its just going to be nikelab stores and online... Still worth a shot though, I could have sworn I saw some up on the endclothing website a few days ago.

  8. On the topic of the chukka fsb talk I saw some sample pics of a khaki colorway today, and while I do like the look of the charcoal ones, these khaki ones at retail would be a no brainer. Definitely takes more cues from the original FSB, but looks great imo. These pics are a couple weeks old, and the light is playin tricks which makes it look like theres an olive colorway too, but as far as I can tell its just the khaki.

  9. @tigerprawn or whoever has the voronoi pants:   how's the sizing of the arcteryx veilance voronoi compared to outlier pants?  I wear 31 in outlier, should I go for a 30 or 32 in veilance?

32 in veilance. If veilance made a 31 it would probably fit me better, but at least for me, veilance is very TTS so going down to a 30 might be uncomfortable. I have some of the 60/30 wrong cut chinos (in 32) that outlier put out last year so maybe theyre a little bit different through the waist but I would generally say that theyre TTS as well.

Also if the voronois dont fit you can always return/exchange them for free (assuming you order them from the veilance site).

  10. So apparently they had a batch of sira grey apparats made (I thought apparats came in black/aluminum?, also Aluminum restock coming in mid/late april as per a veilance rep), and the sira greys are almost gone (couple 33 and 36 left). I ordered a pair of black ones to try out so here are some initial thoughts on it.

I have to say that the pocket configuration feels/is a little bit off. The front hand pockets have a really vertical opening and are uncomfortable to use, and the zippered ones bottom out near my knee which makes them kind of a hassle to use primarily (as I would do because of the awkward hand pockets),  just trying it out theyre hard to zip up one handed. If they had a hand pockets cut like voronois they would be a lot better imo. The cuff adjusting system is really neat and easy to use, its like a much smaller version of the 'invisible keyhole fastener' they use instead of buttons. Also my legs must be kinda short because they arent nearly as cropped as I thought they were going to be (came down to just below my ankles, I tend to have ~31 inseam on my other pants, ordered size 33 apparats).

All in all I'm going to send them back. I really like the idea behind the pants, and a second generation with a more effective pocket layout would be awesome, but so far it feels like a firstgen thing with a few kinks. To those of you wondering about sizing, if you have a pair of voronois, they fit the exact same except for the inseam. Id also be curious to get a few non-stock pics of the aluminum color, I cant seem to find any online.

  11. I'm doing my best to follow the whole 'are we mall ninjas?' discussion, but my basic takeaway is that in some sense, we are. But I also think that as far as the military influence goes, the military designed the clothing that way because it was practical for what they needed, and a lot of those things carry over for the rest of us (civilians or whatever). Even though we arent carrying around all the same gear that someone in the military might use. Its probably a big 'duh' moment about the fact that it's practical for us, but I feel like thats the biggest difference between a techninja and a mall ninja, we are more or less using the gear for exactly what it's designed for, and a mall ninja almost never gets to/wants to do that.

  12. Nike x Undercover Gyakusou Spring / Summer 2014 collection up on Très Bien.

    sweat maps

I could be completely wrong because I wasn't paying that much attention, but they might have the collection in store at 21 mercer. Pretty sure I remember seeing at least the shoes.

  13. It stays in there inventory, but is not shown on their website.  Some dealers still want stock support of older items.  I know last time I last them they still had the subset jacket in-stock.

So theoretically I could place a phone order for an item they still had?

  14. This might be a dumb question, but what happens with all the veilance leftover from previous seasons? I dont think that all of fw13 was gone from the webstore, and its no longer available, so does anyone have an idea of what arcteryx does with it?

  15. Anyone know where to grab the new Veilance cargos in North America? I can't find a 30 anywhere.

keep an eye out on the site because they restock semi-regularly (aluminum is available in a 30 right now). Otherwise most online places should be getting shipments soon so just look around.

  16. Exactly - keep hoping 'this'll be the season they revamp their 'size guide''.... All of my pieces are XS/S, but it's always a gamble.

I was kind of surprised that they didnt have inseam lengths on the shorts or a more comprehensive guide besides just shirts/outerwear and pants. I think they would rather you try things on to figure out sizing and thats why the have the free return policy, but it is still annoying that they havent done anything more than that.

  17. Haven has a few veilance pieces from s/s14 now, if you want to get the jump on that. Nothing that hasnt already been seen, but I'm hoping this means that the veilance website will get updated soon with all of s/s14.

  18. Sorry to derail the topic of an urban techwear blog (although it sounds like a great idea), but im looking to see what you guys use as waterproof boots/shoes in the winter. I have a pair of salomon gore tex running shoes from a few years back, but theyre nearing the end of their lifespan so Im looking for a replacement. Preferably shoes since these will mostly be for a city winter, and something like hiking boots gets annoying when im indoors. Anything worth mentioning, or are options fairly limited?
